Dahken Arena

Lady Katherine Greywind stood at the noble aircar platform entrance to the arena in one of her regal red outfits, awaiting her fellow invited councilors to join her to watch the games. It was equal parts a display of her wealth, a sign of her priorities compared to the socialist mindset of her fellow nobles on the council, and inviting some persons whom she would have to become more intimate with to interact in a different setting than the council chamber. It wasn't all fun and games though, she had a few serious topics she wanted to bring up to her councilors. One was pressing, the other was less so but of potentially great utility. But first, the greetings.

Beneath her feet, she could feel the rumble of the arena. Beasts and men, gladiators and slaves, blood would be shed for the entertainment of the masses of the city. While there were many games held in the grand arena, Greywind saw only the bloodsport games as the main attraction of the arena. And it would certainly be a show today.

So where was Sir William? And what was this speech Lord Green intended to make? Katherine honestly felt herself looking forward to what bombshells her fellow councilors intended to drop.

Race Name: Mithran
Name of Faction: Mithran Dominion
Government Structure: In theory, an absolute monarchy. In practice, a system of landed (or orbital slot-holding) noble aristocracy handle day to day governance while the monarchy serves as a strong-yet-hands-off central authority, resulting in a more coalition-like framework as the interstellar era begins.

Race Biology:
The Mithran species resembles a number of variety of humanoid felines, majority ethnicities being foxkin, wolfkin, and lionkin. The Mithrans have a 9-1 female-male gender ratio, and a rapid rate of maturation where a pup grows to “adulthood” in nine years. Lifespan without medical intervention is 70 years, although a Mithran can expect to be vigorously active up to their last years without too much decay, barring injury or sickness.

Cultural History:
To sum up the Mithran culture: meritocratic militant hedonism.

The Mithran culture is centered around the concept of self-fulfillment. An individual’s priority should be self-satisfaction and self-fulfillment of their abilities and potential for good of the state and self. The result has been a society that embraces both high militarism and hedonism, holding the loyal and dutiful soldier with the same respect as a person able to enjoy high wealth and luxury. The pursuit of rank and glory on the battlefield is just as lofty a goal as becoming a successful businesswoman or tycoon and being able to enjoy sky yachts all day long, and many high-ranking individuals embrace both extremes of living insofar as it doesn’t interfere with their duties.

Mithran militarism has resulted in a partial melding of their industrial-military complex with common society. Military hardware is often repurposed for civilian tasks and vice-versa. Civilian cruise liners and yachts have military-grade power cabling and provision for quick refits for heavy weapons, while an entire line of military frigates double as megafreighters with mounting for heavy cargo pods or torpedo pods.

In general, the Mithrans prefer to build capital ships than escorts, and prefer big-gun battlecruisers and battleships over strike-craft carriers in combat. Crew training and quality is highly emphasized and a high priority issue in ship and military R&D over rushing new weapons or technology to the front. Training is rigorous, crew quarters must be ergonomic and comfortable for extended ops, and ships are built with large crew complements in mind for redundancy and high readiness. But conversely, the high responsibility work and combat conditions also result in slightly relaxed off-duty regulations.

Social Structure:
The Mithran Dominion are divided into social classes of nobility, middle-class, and lower-class. The classes of the middle and lower classes are largely built on wealth, social position, and access to luxuries, meaning fluid movement is not uncommon. Transition into and within the upper class elites and nobility is more complex however, and often strictly tied to meritocratic action either in combat or in political scheming.

Mithran males stand apart from the social hierarchy owing to their limited and protected status under the Imperial government. Males are expected to take more philosophical, scientific, or social professions in addition to serving as breeding mates under Imperial or clan matchmaking. Recently the gender wall is suffering some cracks due to high theoretical and technical knowledge required to run FTL drives and starships, resulting in some males branching into high-tech space industry or even military auxiliary roles.

Reaction to Aliens:
The reflexive mindset the Mithrans have towards aliens is “how can be make use of them?” Whether it is a militaristic exploitation mindset or hedonistic thrill-seeking perspective depends Mithran to Mithran. Most would lean towards the former.

Mess and tangle. Transitioning from one line of biosynthesis production to an entirely new one was never an easy task, but was now merely a matter of management and direction than serious innovation now that a profile for production had been locked in.

Which still meant obscene amounts of paperwork crossing Katherine's desk she had to read and sign off on. If she didn't have her trusty maid-biosynths to serve on her around the clock, she didn't know how she'd have managed to get it all done within the span of days instead of years. Aaaand now she was giving into unsubstantiated hyperbole, not a good sign for her sanity at this point.

Cradling a glass of fine wine, Katherine waved away a maidservant with another pile of papers as she endeavored to refocus her mind. She needed a break, damn what the other councilors may say, she needed a break before she started acting and ordering irrationally and undermined both herself and Dahken with a ill-timed execution or something.

She blinked. Execution. Thats right, the city arena had just opened up again recently. She almost forgot to reserve her usual booth! Scrambling for a pad, she rapped out a message directed to the Master of the Arena to reserve a VIP booth at the arena so she could get a clear first-hand view of the bloodshed and combat. A few thoughts later, and she decided to send invitations out to her fellow councilors to join her if they wished. Wouldn't hurt to be polite and show off some wealth, unlike the pauper Jarvis was driving his family to be with his current rate of charity.

And if they chose not to drop in, she could invite Madame Vol and some of her fellow tycoons instead. Best to make arrangements sooner rather than later.

I've just released The Kraken.

Without telling any of us what you are doing or where you are going.

Yeah, this council is off to a nice start.
I wonder how this council will react to the threat coming at its borders with its divisions and dissent. And lots of independant players.

Probably going to stare at Greywind unkindly no matter what she does anyway.

Joy, joy, and damnation. Just as soon as things were looking up, another crisis was descending upon Dahken. Katherine sipped at a glass of wine served by an attractive biosynth maidservant in her private chambers as she pondered the news on the screens before her. The worker's league reforms were underway, with not quite unexpected unrest resulting from them. She would let Jarvis pay for his own project, Union Laborworks was busy reshuffling its assets to adjust for the labor pool disruptions it would cause. The Pillar was still quite dependent on goods made with biosynth labor, so they would have little reason to protest her focus.

But none of that would matter if they were invaded yet again. Scowling and ordering her wine refilled, Katherine pondered her options. First and foremost, the Knight had to be roused into action. It was clear he had little mind for administration (indeed, his militia were paid by Duke Pentaphraxis last season), but perhaps a immediate threat to face would give him something to focus on. But as for her.....options, she needed to determine her options.

First, to follow up on the actions she had taken before. The engines, the biosynth reallocations....yes. She had plenty of options.

I approve of this game and am drafting designs for a faction now. Just put up a scale of what kind of technology is allowed, and I'll come running.
