Personality: Among the four notoriously rowdy Connolly brothers, Gerard has always been the odd one out. The Irish are said to be the toughest fighters and hard drinkers of the whole of Britannia. His family proud of the Connolly clan's fiery reputation continued by the brothers, yet little of those qualities would generally describe Gerard as a person. At a very young age he learned to work hard to earn money together with his brothers even if it means breaking a few rules, just to put a proper meal on the dinner table.
He mostly keeps to himself, growing up as a shy and awkward lad had made him a subject to his brothers constant teasing. He may be slow to trust but once he does he never hesitates to show his warmer and goofier side, both traits that he rarely shows to anyone. He adores music, and would spend his time alone playing the Bouzouki. They say he got his mother's angelic voice and used to sing with his brothers to pass time while sharing a couple of drinks.
Gerard is a hard worker, even though his skills with the blade would get him a much better earning job, he learns to be happy with what he already has. He could have been a mercenary or gone back to piracy but would rather keep himself away to a life of violence, as he thinks he already had enough of those in one lifetime. Years ago he just turned his life around, he got tired of his old one which has now left him with regrets. The remainder of his former mistakes has left him dim and jaded and nowadays he somehow makes up for it by doing some honest living.

Family History: The Connolly clan goes way back to the Viking era, a name known as one of the fiercest warriors in Ireland and close descendants to the Gaelic warriors who practiced the mystic arts. The name holds respect and even fear in the past years, as it was prominently carried on by the notorious Connolly brothers. Four sons to a retired sailor father and a stay at home mother, Gerard was the youngest among them.
His family didn't make much coin which got the brothers to do all kinds of crazy, even unlawful schemes just to get by. They had a lot of run ins with the law, and more than once got themselves locked up because of it. At some point, the brothers got into piracy, convinced by someone who was hiring new men for "The Velvet Rose", at a dingy tavern one night. Gerard was barely 18 when he got his first real taste of adventure. The life of piracy got to him, he never thought of a life that was better than raiding British cargo ships. Gerard and his brothers didn't care for consequences as long as they bring something of real worth to their parents back home.
Your personal life: Minimal of 3 detailed paragraphs about your characters life up until this point.
Gerard was born in Cork, Ireland to a lower class family. Their family was brought up by a close knit clan of warriors dating back to the Vikings. It was traditional for the clan to train children in the arts at a very young age. Their family barely earned enough when Little Gerry was growing up in the city, that at 12 he indulged himself to a life of petty thievery with his three older brothers. They do break ins, pick pocketing and even mugging. He barely understood the line of morality as it was a common thing for the poorest to do such things for a living. When he turned 18, his brothers were recruited into piracy, the only life they had for the next three years.
One morning, in broad daylight, they were intercepted and bombarded by a Ship of the Line, for the first time fear struck the young man as he ducked for cover under a pile of rubble. He saw men, some he would even call as his friends, would get thrown into the air and into the sea at impact, some are blown into smithereens right before his very eyes. They escaped, barely got out of the bombardment alive for the price of bloodshed including two of his brothers. His eldest brother, Aldous, who now ascended as the new captain after the former died in the attack, was blinded by vengeance and had sworn to take the fight back to the British army even if they all die trying. Gerard objected at any more pointless deaths even if surrendering means saving the only family he has left. Because of their apparent disagreement on the following months since the events, the relationship between them turned sour. Gerard would openly voice out his concerns on Aldous drastic decisions and warped judgments only to be fall into deaf ears. His brothers deaths has greatly affected him the most. He had failed to watch over them as he had promised his mother.
While they were looking for supplies mainland one evening, Gerard was ambushed by the military and taken into custody, only to be offered a deal if they surrendered peacefully in exchange of saving him and his brother from death. It took a long while for him to be convinced but Gerard eventually agreed, betraying his brother and pointed them to the location of the Velvet Rose with her new captain. They killed off the rest of the men except for Alduous. Once he was captured with Gerard's now reluctant participation, his brother cursed him. The last thing he heard from his brother while in tears was a spiteful wish of him being dead. Gerard couldn't look at him directly out of shame and sorry, as this was the only way he knew how to save both of them. Holding their end of the bargain, the officials assured his brother will be kept alive, living in a life of servitude in the colonies to make up for his crimes and as for Gerard himself, they had agreed to let him slip out for helping them resolve a three year case, with the condition of never turning back from his old life. For years, he wondered if what he did was actually worth losing over the trust of his remaining family.
A few years later he got himself to work as a laborer in Hampshire, where he met his feisty wife Marianne at a tavern while she served him a drink. He instantly fell in love and for the first time in a while Gerard was happy. They both got married and lived a quiet life in the countryside. His happiness was short lived once again when his pregnant wife died of childbirth with their stillborn daughter. The next morning, Gerard left Hampshire. He didn't want to stay any longer and be reminded everyday of the most precious things that he lost. He moved from city to city, temporarily working to indulge his drinking habit. At the age of 25 he was offered a job to work for Benedict Wyndham, a Gentry spice merchant as a rancher for three years now, taking care of their horses, or as the family's coach driver. At times even assisting him on seafaring businesses. He thought this was what he needed, to start anew and actually do something good for a change.
What you want for your life: Gerard has lived alone for a long time and although he never thought much about it, he yearns for companionship. He wishes the war with the Soulless will once day conceive peace in the end. He also dreamed of opening an inn someday, a place he could call his own, providing a safe haven for travelers who came across the countryside. He wished for a quiet and stable life there, spending his remaining days reading books, or playing the Bouzouki by the porch with Wendy.
