Full Name: Abigail Harlow
Nicknames/Aliases: Abi, Harlow
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Species: Sorceress
SCION Team/Rank: Blue Moon
Description:
A short, scrawny woman with pale blonde hair which reaches a little ways down her spine. Abigail’s nose is small and tilted upwards a little; she has dark blonde eyebrows, flawless teeth and thin lips to give her a bright and dazzling smile. Abigail’s body is frail and flat - she has pale skin, bony wrists and small extremities. She’s almost entirely flat-chested and she has a multitude of faint nicks and scratches along her elbows, knees, hands, ankles, and feet. Standing at 5’2, she’s hardly an imposing figure.
Her fashion sense can be summed up in one word - “Goodwill”. It’s likely the only things that aren’t second hand are her underwear. Jeans and hoodies are a staple, but sometimes she’ll be wandering around in oversized sweaters and torn chinos, or wearing gaudy tights and brightly coloured t-shirts with slogans written in polish printed on them. Regardless of what’s on her body at the time, she always makes sure it looks halfway-decent before she goes outside.
Personality:
Abigail bears the tell-tale signs of a woman forced to mature too quickly. She fluctuates between being self-sufficient and sensible to acting like any other cheeky teenage girl would. Her sharp tongue and witty comments are more than enough to get her in trouble; it doesn’t help matters that she’s as stubborn as a mule and doesn’t hold back when she gets mad. Often restless and always fidgety, Abigail has a boundless amount of energy that spills into her everyday life and fuels her moments of irrationality, those famous “fuck-it-let’s-give-this-a-shot” ideas that teen has been guilty of before.
The other side to Abigail is her intelligence; her curiosity was piqued at a very young age by her mother’s occupation and since then she was almost addicted to learning so-called ‘occultism’ such as voodoo or arcane magic. She displays a particular love for potions, which combined her keen grasp on botany with an outlet for her fidgeting through cauldrons, measuring ingredients and designing pretty labels. She enjoys debates and isn’t afraid to speak her mind, even if they devolve into shouting matches and sulking. Her sharp mind means that even if she couldn’t exactly avoid trouble, she was well equipped for getting herself out of whatever screw-up she inevitably lands herself in.
Even if she acts like a smart-ass from time to time, no-one is more aware of their own frailty than Abigail. Yes, she is passionate and stubborn and will fight for her voice to be heard but there are some situations where Abigail can clearly see she is physically weaker than most. Abigail isn’t afraid of running away from fights she can’t handle and has a healthy amount of common sense that inhibits her impulsive behaviour from time to time.
Skills: Magical Affinity: The daughter of a witch with an insatiable thirst for knowledge, it was Abigail’s ability to harness magic that got her into SCION in the first place. In theory, Abigail could pick up any spellbook and practice the spells within - it all depends on whether she executes them properly and uses the right reagents. She’s inherited a myriad of spellbooks from her mother and knows a few simple spells off by heart. Other spells may be impossible to cast without a certain object such as a crystal or something to draw runes with. Some require sacrifices of blood, hair or tears - all of them are physically draining. The stronger and more prolonged a ritual/spell is, the more fatigued Abigail will become. It’s not that uncommon to find her asleep in the HQ, grimoire in hand and the scorch-marks of a half finished summoning circle somewhere in her general vicinity.
Alchemy: When she isn’t playing with powers beyond her control, Abigail takes to potion brewing like a duck to water. She always has a handful of bottles lying around in her room, fermenting or waiting to be used - antidotes, healing potions, poisons, charms-in-a-bottle...give her the recipe and she’ll give it a go. It’s a tricky art to get perfectly right, and she’s less experienced in this field, so she’ll typically refuse to try the more complex potions out of a concern for safety. A poorly brewed potion could do anything. It’s also worth mentioning that Abigail’s been known to slip elixirs into her baking too, for shits and giggles. Anyone with common sense wouldn’t leave her unsupervised in the kitchen.
Tailoring: Abigail’s mum used her job as a seamstress to hide her identity as a witch in Boston - it’s only natural she’d teach her daughter how to sew as well. Abigail’s got a knack for repairing and fitting clothes - things in her size are hard to come by, and a certain werewolf keeps ripping his shirts...it all costs money in the end, money that she doesn’t really have to spend on new clothes. It’s scary how good she is at getting bloodstains out of fabrics and she’ll happily repair your favourite blazer on a rainy day when she’s got nothing to do.
Deciphering: How the hell are you going to be able to cast a spell when the book’s in latin? Patience, a notepad, and a dictionary work wonders when you view ancient languages as one big puzzle. Give her enough examples and data and Abigail can work her way through an language, but obviously this could take weeks to get right, and translation errors are always an issue. Luckily when it comes to things like trying to summon spirits from an alternate reality using a book written in ancient hebrew Abigail won’t do shit unless she is POSITIVE she’s got the translation spot on.
Weaknesses:Frailty: Abigail’s too curious for her own good sometimes. Constantly playing with spells and potions and what-have-you means that she is in a constant state of weakness or fatigue. She succumbs to the cold really easily, gets ill more often than others, and can’t over-exert herself without getting drowsy. She tends to sleep a lot too and has a voracious appetite.
Stubborn: If Abigail thinks she’s right, good luck convincing her otherwise. It’s her fatal flaw; she’ll do anything, no matter how stupid or dangerous, if she puts her mind to it and reasons it to be a worthwhile risk. She also has a nasty habit of overworking herself when she’s stressed, though it’s easier to stop her when she’s already half-asleep and can’t kick your shins as hard as she’s usually able to.
Asshole: She just can’t keep her mouth shut sometimes. She’ll piss off a werewolf until she’s being chased around the mansion by a bloodthirsty beast. She’ll insult, cuss, tease, ignore or flat-out bully people who she doesn’t like and only puts aside her differences when she has to. Let it be known, however, that Abigail’s aware she’s at the bottom of the food chain in SCION and typically avoids getting physical or provoking anyone to the point of attacking her when she can.
Brief History: Abigail officially joined SCION around a year ago, but many of the older members would have heard about her in one way or another from SCION veteran Brooks Lockwood. Her name’s cropped up once or twice way back in the past when she was a little rambunctious girl playing with her mummy’s spellbook, but those issues of magical concealment were minor at best and brushed off because she was too young and naive to know any better. It had the desired effect though - she was put on the register, the daughter of that one witch in Boston. The kid with the inclination to use magic for her own gains - someone to keep an eye on if the problem persisted when she got older. Luckily, it just so happened that she went under the care of agent Lockwood and magical incidents from there on were pretty much unheard of.
Abigail claims it’s the organisation’s love for ‘child soldiers’ that managed to get her into SCION at such a young age but when she’s being serious about why she joined she uses Brooks as the excuse. Nowadays you’ll see her wandering the halls of the HQ like some sort of incredibly lost uni student, books in one hand and a cold starbucks in the other, complaining about something trivial and stressing over deadlines for her research papers.
