This looks good, I'm glad I could join. I'll have something up in a day.
If there's still interest in this, I wouldn't mind trying my hand at being a space Visgoth that learns civilization.
Gonna start writing up my guy- he's going to be a journalist with a recording drone.
This looks really good.

Very hyped
Hype hype! Super stoked about this, a question I have is what the tech situation on drones would be in New Philly. Do they exist? What roles do they have? How far did drone technology come before the fog? How well was it preserved?
My body is so ready
Name:
Saxha Ben-Ohmri

Age:
24

Race:
Human

Appearance:
A slight, wiry man with black hair already turning grey, there are heavy lines creasing Saxha's almost gaunt face, making him look far older than he really is. His pale green eyes have a habit of focusing on things with an unnerving intensity. Saxha dresses similar to other human merchants, wearing dark brown or black knee breeches with hose, a white neck handkerchief, and tall leather riding boots. His waistcoat is an unadorned grey and sturdily made. His coat, once expensive, is several seasons out of fashion, and has begun to show wear. All together, Saxha gives the impression of an unimpressive merchant. Only the careful eye would notice that the butt of his pistol has a complex carving in it, or that the small sword at his side shows more wear than a regular merchant could account for.

Class:
Bricoleur- Saxha's magic is a messy thing. Part learned from obscure High Elven incunabula, part hedge witch rhyming cantrips, with a dash of Dwarven enchantment spells and a touch of Halfling illusion mantras,
the only cohesive element to what Saxha knows is that he's found some unsightly way to make all of it work. Most of the complex spells Saxha casts is crafted from various minor spells that are then stitched together in rapid order to cause the effect wanted. When there's a fight, Saxha's only advantage is his constant element of surprise.

Alignment:
True Neutral- He still has a conscience, it's just that it's fairly easy to ignore.

Weapon(s):
Enchanted flintlock- instead of relying on powder to fire a ball, the flintlock (in reality a blasting wand) draws magical energy from the user, and releases it as explosive energy from the muzzle. The drain is enough that someone would usually wait a minute before firing again, although it can be used in short succession.
Ordinary small sword

Armor/Clothing:
No armor, clothing already listed.

Personal trinkets:
Sahxa is a compulsive diarist, on top of everything else, and keeps everything written down in his journals, all of which are enchanted to only open by his touch. He also keeps with him an expensive jade and ivory Karmath set, which he brings out on occasion to play with.

Short History:
Born the middle son of a grain merchant in Petrohymn, one of the Empire's biggest cities, Saxha enjoyed a good upbringing in a comfortably middle class home with his 4 other brothers and sisters. Saxha was always a dedicated student, and excelled in his studies, his passions being Karmath (a game said to have been popular with kings in the 3rd Era and was vogue again in the Empire) history, and rhetoric. After becoming a finalist in a well heeled Karmath match and gaining the attention of the philosophy professor, Saxha was invited to join Petrohymn Academy, an elite school attended by Petrohymns elite.
While Saxha thrived academically, his humble background was a source of mockery and derision among the other, elite, students. Saxha, frustrated, turned to Karmath, frequently playing lengthy games by himself. Interested in learning more about the origins of Karmath to better play it, Saxha began to read history books surrounding the ancient game. Much to his surprise, Karmath was a game that had magical origins, with the game itself being seen as a metaphor for magic itself. While once reading a book on Karmath's magical origins, Saxha uncovered a thick envelope tucked into the books pages. Inside the envelope were instructions on casting magic. Fascinated, he ignored his ingrained fear of magic that he had been taught since birth as he threw himself at the papers. From there, Saxha's new obsession was finding and studying new spellbooks, gathering them into a private collection.
It turned out the best way to find prohibited items was in places that already existed outside of the law. And so Saxha started spending more and more time in Petrohymn's rougher districts, finding fences who dealt in the arcane, dealers selling magical highs, Elven prostitutes who would teach Saxha half forgotten spell songs from their childhood for the price of an evening.
And while Saxha could keep the magic a secret, he certainly couldn't keep his new haunts hidden for long. And lacking the clout to make his habits forgivable, Saxha was expelled from the Academy.
That was fine, Saxha realized he could travel to build his collection. So, taking a loan from his family, Saxha purchased a caravan and books, becoming a colporter, traveling across the Empire selling books and pamphlets to those who didn't live in a town with a bookstore.
And, in a locked chest hidden in the false bottom of his caravan, Saxha started buying and selling books of a very different kind for a very different clientele.

The Black Mambas
Super stoked about this, already batting around ideas for my character. Just looking for more framing so I can better build my character.

Just so I have more to work off of, could you give more of a description of the Imperial Caste system, as well as what the political landscape looks like. There's a lot of mention of political instability, so I'm curious as to what's causing that.
Super interested in this, it looks awesome and right up my alley. My only questions are just on some background info to help determine how I spin out my character and understand the rest of the world. I'm a sucker for lore, so feel free to lay it on me.

What's the tech level like? You mentioned Exo-suits, but also cannons. I get that things would have degraded over the last 15 or so years, but rusty exo-suits give a different flavor to things than rusty cannons.

Is Philly (really) a democracy? What's the power structure like? What's society like after surviving such a brutal catastrophe? What's the art scene like? Are camera's still a thing? What does the medical field look like?

How's the war against the Red Coats Confused Phoenicians invaders going? How's the N.U.S army doing?

Are horses still alive? Are they used instead of cars?

What's the go-to meal today? Are there restaurants?

Are people depressed and angry and post-apocalpty all the time, or have people as a whole adapted?

What happened to religion?
