Hi syrian, long time no see. this sounds interesting, I might join depending on how much free time I have.

It's been a fair while.

I'll let you know if it gets up off the ground, but no worries if you're busy :)
Failed State

A game where rebel factions of a fractured revolution vie for control of a failed state with each other and international peace keepers.

Unlocked Provinces

Technology: Modern Era
Setting: Fictional/Earth Like/Desert Environment
Story Goal: Domination of the area through force or diplomacy.

Story (If You Can Call It That)

Supreme General Tsar Crimson Grey of Hurphia has ruled the desert nation for almost half a century, and is well into his 80's.

A ruthless dictator by trade, he swept to power in a military coup that culminated in the untold murder of thousands of political opponents and resulted in total oppression. Ever since, he has ruled with an iron first, suppressing the people mercilessly and ignoring the international community's half hearted attempts at restraining his barbaric reign.

But after a global economic meltdown, Hurphia's people fell on especially hard times. Starvation was rife, as the nation's economy totally collapsed, and international sanctions finally took their toll.

The peoples took to the streets, demanding democracy and for Crimson Grey's removal from power. Naturally, he responded with fighter jets, armoured columns and indiscriminate shelling. Tens of thousands died in what was known as the Four Weeks of Crimson. With any chance of peaceful revolution crushed in this dispicable military crack down, the people were faced with little choice but to revolt.

All across the nation, terrorist cells quickly swelled into self-styled armies, taking the fight directly to local government forces. The civil war swept across the country, creating a grave humanitarian crisis for those caught between the fighting forces.

However, the revolutionaries are divided along political and idealogical lines, and they have fractured into smaller groups. Hurphia is now a cauldron of death and destruction.

Under intense media and public pressure, the world's governments formed a united peace keeping force, and dispatched it to the country with all haste. Hurphia, being rich in crude oil reserves, was also a domino that many foreign governments could not afford to fall into civil war, as the consequential impact on the oil market would be catastrophic at a time when global economies were already facing difficulties.

The peace keeping forces, termed PEACEFOR, arrived in Hurphia promptly and immediately set about destroying Crimson Grey's forces. However, the old dictator was stubborn, and committed his vast but under equipped army to defeating the invaders, leaving the province of Asamba lightly defended.

It is here that the rebel factions will finally have a chance at establishing themselves as true territorial powers. First they must take the oil fields, the airports, the docks, the water hubs and the industrial areas, before rolling on towards Hurphia's capital.

How This Works

Players take on the roll of a faction, choose a numbered starting region as their base of operations, and then war with each other or the government forces for control over vital resources. Each region has a resource, whether its oil refineries, arms factories, docks, airports - anything of value to your cause.

Other than the above mumbo jumbo, it plays like any other NRP. Nurse your faction to strength through the eyes of your cell leaders, militant commanders, spies etc etc as you blow loads of things up and push back the government's army (or each others) in a quest to establish your own country within the province.

This is a fictional environment, not set on Earth, but set in equivalent modern times. Threfore I'll allow for copy/pasting Earth military equipment, although renaming them might help with immersion. Alternatively, I'm all up for custom units.

As we're playing as rebels, our stuff will be pretty tacky until we secure arms factories and the like. Also, we might be able to import some advanced weaponry from sympathetic countries via docks and airports. We'll just make it up as we go I guess, and see how things pan out.

Regions

Each numbered region on the map denotes a county within Asamba Province. Each of these counties contains a single city, and a smattering of towns/villages. As Hurphia is a desert nation, much of the country is actually uninhabited beyond urban centres, making the counties' cities the prime targets.

Before the RP starts, the GM will assign each county with a resource. Players will be able to choose the resource of their base location during the creation of their "state".

The anonymous towns and villages aside from the cities will simply be back ground noise, unless the players wish to make them significant.

Taking Over Regions

We're all mature here, I'm sure, and I'm not going down the stats avenue because fuck that noise. If you want to attack a government held area, go for it. I'll expect descriptive battles full of death and depravity as your gung-ho militia snakes its way up satan's rectum in the crucible of glorious combat.

If you roll over the government forces with a fleet of bicycles, we'll have issues.

When it comes to other players, I'd prefer mutual agreements to be reached. There's no real winning here, only a story to be told.

Where there is an impasse, I'll simply roll a dice if the forces look evenly pitched, or make a decision based on who I think would win.

Simples :)

Any takers thus far?

Gonna give this a good ole bump to the top.
If my RP gets off the ground, I got some work I can send your way. I'll be in touch if it takes off.
I'm interested in this! ^^

You damn right you are!

Alright, that's four of us. One more and I'll stick the OOC on a 20 kiloton warhead of awesomeness and nuke the casual roleplay section with it.
I am totally interested in this, I love aliens and I love survival. Plus criminal characters are right up my alley lol I hope this thing takes off, lots of the Rps I've seen have gotten interest but never fully got anywhere.

You're a man (or woman?) of impeccable tastes, and I salute you.

Oh this'll go somewhere, I'm mother fucking SyrianHamster, a God flippity dayam RPing heavy weight/genius.

Admittedly I'm in the twilight of my career, but what we're witnessing now is like Elvis' 68 comeback special.

Actually. I've decides that I want to make an anthro dog cowboy.

Why not a giant snake that survives on raw PAIN for subsistence?

... Ahem

Okay, okay, I'm going to do a little tweaking, make the RP a little more colourful, see if we can't draw in those punters.
No big lose if I can't play a human...

I'll just play an alien that looks like a human! XD

Well I've got nothing inherently against having a human or two, but I've got a feeling suddenly everyone will be like "I WANT B HUMAN 2!!!! >:(" then suddenly the RP has turned into your typical survival RP, when I'm trying to inch it away from that ever so slightly.

But yeah, I mean just make your skin blue and your hair green, and bam, you have a fluorescent (not)human.

Here's something for potential interestees to think about: your wrecked spaceship will hold some items, tied to your character's past.

At the moment, there will be basic survival gear, an item directly related to your character's crime, and a personal effect that wont mean anything to them - a final mockery of the League's justice system. Your characters will have the pieces to the puzzle, but no way to make sense of them.

Anyway, an example would be, if your character was mass murderer then they might have been given a laser rifle or somthing that they used to commit their crimes.

If they were some kind of hacker, then they might have a portable computing kit or something.

If they were some genocidal dictator, then I guess they'd be given something used to perpetrate those crimes.

Personal effects would be like a picture of the character's family, or a newspaper clipping alluding to their crimes.

The survival kit will be customisable, and that's why I mentioned the type of alien tech in play.

That's it though, after that, you've got to scrounge from the earthlings :D
I figured someone would want to play humans, but I'm a bit myeahaedhadada about whether or not to allow it at the moment.

So I'll give you a "solid maybe" for now, but don't get your hopes up.

Thanks for the interest in any case.
Who wants to play as an amnesic exiled alien convict in some ruined Earth landscape?

You do.

Go on, sign up.

Do it.

Just do it.

I command you.

Foreign Amnesiacs

Your character awakes within an unfamiliar desolate and ruined urban landscape, remembering nothing but their name.

RP Summary

  • Post-Apoc Survival
  • Non-Human Characters
  • Totally freeform
  • No plot beyond exploration and survival
  • Sci-Fi

Story (Known to Characters)

Your character awakes, suffering a minor concussion and finds themselves amidst a gigantic ruined urban landscape. A smouldering wreckage of a small spacecraft lays nestled in the rubble nearby, and it seems intimately familiar to them, though they know not how.

An explosion; no, a sonic boom, thunderclaps in the dreary skies above. Your character spots several glowing lights, trailing flames and smoke, spiralling towards the ground. They all vanish beyond the ruined high-rises of this once great metropolis, but each make a muffled thud in the distance as they make impact.

Your character has no idea where they are, how, or why, but it is apparent they are not alone.

Story (Unknown to Characters)

The characters are convicted felons of the Proxima Deltiri League, an interplanetary alliance of extraterrestrial (aka, non-human) species from the Proxima solar system.

What the characters did, why, or whether they were even guilty is not for them to know. However, their crimes were considered so heinous that they were given the worst punishment possible: their minds were wiped of all knowledge of their pasts, and they were cast out as exiles to live the remainder of their lives in misery; confused and suffering until their dying days.

Their destination?

Earth, 2532 A.D

World War 4 erupted between the bickering humans nearly two centuries ago, just decades after they'd fought a devastating World War 3 that almost destroyed the planet. This fourth war resulted in the final destruction of the last known human civilisations, and now only ruins stand as testimony to the glory and power that was once theirs.

Amidst the rubble, a few human stragglers cling to life, fighting a daily battle to survive, even as their global population staggers further into total extinction. Creatures, irradiated by humanity's nuclear arsenal, have evolved over generations into fearsome mutated forms of their ancestors; the flora has become a twisted and horrific parody of what it once was. Everything is out to kill everything else, and life is a very cheap commodity as the planet prepares to transcend from the Age of Man to the Age of Darkness.

All in all, it's Hell out there, and your character is invited.

Rules

  • Power for the people, by the people. Any disagreements and RP-related issues will be resolved by general consensus of players.
  • Imagination > Sky. Few restrictions here on what kind of creature the players choose to play as. Keep it sensible, keep it creative, but above all, keep it cool.
  • Alien technology = lasers, FTL drives, forcefields - that kind of thing.
  • Human technology = Low sci-fi, basically 2015 but with futuristic quirks. I don't want to define it too much, as to allow players as much creative freedom that can be allowed. We'll reel each other in if we think someone is getting too carried away!
  • Alien psi-powers allowed! I mean, why not?
  • Steamy alien s*x scenes actively encouraged and must be accompanied by detailed graphic drawings.
  • The above rule was a joke. Please don't do anything against the guild's rules.
  • Characters can pursue whatever little story they want. Run away, build a farm, something, profit? Find some humans, enslave them and build a new empire? Hunt down other aliens and kill them JUST CAUSE? Sure, do it all.
  • Earth's mutated wildlife = Jaws on legs, riding a lawnmower towards a pic-nic table full of children. Basically, it's very angry, in some cases very bizarre (man eating dandelions) and very indiscriminate.

Character Sheet

You'll notice some usual information requests missing from the character sheet. This is because obviously they're missing their memory. They don't know who they are, or where they came from, only their name.

Name: They remember this much, at least.

Gender: If applicable.

Appearance: Include height and approximate weight.

Psionic Powers: Because sometimes little green men use their minds to move things or injure overtly frustrated giraffes. Seriously though, if your character has some kind of sixth sense, or psychokinetic power, list it and describe its capabilities. Be sensible though ;)

Augmentations: Any part of your character that has been modified by unnatural means. A cyborg would be an example of someone who has been augmented. Also include the augmentations' powers, don't just put "Cool flashy red eye" because me, Jack, Jim and John ain't gonna know whether it shoots lasers or sees through women's clothes.

Survival Box: Each exiled convict has been issued a basic survival box, designed to prolong their existence and suffering. List 5 items that your box contains - can literally be anything, but tone down on the weapons. If I see someone say:

Item 1 = laser gatling gun

Item 2 = plasma bazooka LOL

Item 3 = light saber

Item 4 = megga big combat armour

Item 5 = pet chinchilla with carnivorous intent

I'll go nuts at them. Just think really, what would you expect the box to contain? More than likely, it'd be tailored to your character's species.

Conviction Related Item: An item associated with what your character did to get themselves exiled. Accompanied by a note that reads, "This object is symbolic of what condemned you to amnesia in exile."

Personal Effect: A single item, strongly related to the character's past. Photograph, sound recording - that kinda thing. Something that gives a small light into who they were before their exile, but not enough to tell them the exact details.

Thanks for the interest guys! I'll get an OOC up tomorrow, which for me is in about 6-8 hours. We'll have fun with this one, I think :D

Feels a lot like a group of people for a while going "See I shouldn't have done anything my life is garbage" etc then a month later they're all singing Kumbaya around a fire! I'm in!

Unless their neurotic tendencies get entrenched by the freedom of being on a desert island, in which case we're looking at a Halloween scenario!

Sounds kind of fun, i'll throw some interest here because SyrianHamster.

Trying to remember you. It was the nation RP wasn't it? with the custom races and stats that ultimately exploded in my face? I think that's it.

In any case, glad to have you aboard.

I'll be throwing my bit of interest in here.
+1 interest

I'll throw my bit into your bit.
