I am still around. I've just been busy with college work as well. :d
Dani was rather glad to note that the two other children in the compartment with her accepted that she wasn’t upset with them. She had met people who didn’t seem to find it possible that she could not be offended by their offhand remarks about how quiet she was or something, and their subsequent attempts to make it up to her had always gotten on her nerves. Hopefully, they weren’t the only two people like that in the school. It would make things a lot easier. Dani shrugged in response to Pearleane’s apology with the intent of conveying that it really wasn’t a big deal while the boy put his stuff into the little storage area above, standing on his toes to reach. Knowing that she herself would have been unable to reach the storage area even on her toes, Dani kept her backpack next to her on her seat. Even though they were sitting down, it was rather obvious that she was particularly short. Pearleane’s response to the question on her board was surprising, until she laughed and gave it away as a joke that was, becoming a little more serious. Dani nodded as Pearleane explained that she really wanted to learn, which was something that Dani could relate with considering she was new to the whole magic thing. The boy answered the question almost immediately after Pearleane finished, chuckling a bit at her joke answer. Dani listened while he answered the question, taking one of the jelly beans that Pearleane offered and popping it into her mouth. Almost immediately upon biting into it, her mouth was filled with a sharp spice that made her want to throw up, though she swallowed it to keep from being rude. Eyes watering, Dani tried to focus on what the boy was saying as he answered her question by saying that he was looking forward to the food, which he had heard was superb. After answering the question, the boy introduced himself as Peter, and Dani began writing her own response on the board to share. “I’m excited to learn as well. I’m new to this whole thing. By the way, what was that… thing I ate?” is what the whiteboard read when she flipped it around for the others to see. Based on how they held themselves, she had a feeling that they weren’t nearly as new to the whole thing as she was, which was somewhat reassuring. Hopefully, they would be able to help her out.
Hopefully that was what you were looking for, Leviathan.
While Zoey continued setting up the fireworks, which primarily involved setting out bases to provide further stability and, for some of the fireworks, tying the fuses together for the show, the group of people currently outside, including Desmond, Astrid, and a couple of other people whose name she hadn’t been given, had migrated towards the edge of the forest. Though they weren’t far enough away that she couldn’t hear them, she didn’t pay them much attention for the moment, focused on the fireworks as she was. Apart from that, she could always look back through her memory if she needed to know what had been said. Perks of having an eidetic memory, she guessed. One thing that she couldn’t help but notice was the gradually increasing number of people on the patio of the castle. Violet was clearly spreading the word of the fireworks show, as was expected. She had a tendency to ride the coattails of those she knew who were doing something that would be popular in the court of public opinion. Needless to say, Zoey was rarely the subject of such exploits, as she was rarely considered popular by any stretch of the imagination. Nope, that was reserved for when she brought out the fireworks. Noticing that one of the girls from the group that had been near the forest had turned to her and come a little closer, Zoey finished tying off the knot she was working on. “If you’re worried about the ‘methane,’ you shouldn’t be,” Zoey said, taking a wild stab at what be on her mind while moving onto the next set of fuses that needed tying together. “I only have a few that launch into the air, and they reach altitudes of about two hundred feet, which means that any sparks will be cooled by the air as they fall, so they won’t be able to light anything.” Once she was done with the last knot, she stood up and surveyed the crowd of people, which has spilled down from the patio and onto the ground. They were still a safe distance away, so she was ready to go. Grabbing the long detonator fuse in one hand and grabbing Luna’s sleeve with the other, Zoey walked towards the crowd, checking to make sure she was at a safe distance when she got there. After setting the fuse down, Zoey pulled out a lighter, setting the fuse alight with one smooth motion. The little flame made its way towards the first knot, splitting to the first set of fireworks. As the flame reached the fireworks, they went off, creating a cacophony of high-pitched shrieks and whistles and a spray of multi-colored light. The oohs from the crowd behind her was satisfying as ever as Zoey watched the fuses hit their next marks. The next set were a little quieter, but they made up for it in brilliantly vivid colors and angles to their spouts of fire, though measured carefully to avoid mishaps of course. The third set was virtually similar to the first set, with the addendum that the fireworks would seem to stop suddenly before starting up more violently than they had at first, eliciting several pleased responses from the crowd. The fourth and final set were the best, of course. They were the ones that launched into the air. It had taken a bit of careful planning to get the design right, but it was worth it. The fireworks were arranged carefully to produce the flag of Ireland with the crest of their university on it once it got to its max altitude, hopefully creating a lasting memory in the minds of the people in the crowd behind her. That was what her goal with fireworks usually was, and she knew that she at least would never forget it, though the cheers of the crowd seemed to indicate that they wouldn’t either.
Sorry I've been gone. I got caught up in homework the other day. I'll try to get a post up this evening.
Just a question for Miss, but were those jelly beans the Bertie Botts? I just need to know for my post. :D
If there was one thing that Dani hated, it was the awkward silence that persisted while she erased and rewrote on her whiteboard. She was glad to hear that the other girl didn’t consider her an intruder, however, as that did alleviate some of her anxiety. While she held up the board asking for the other girl’s name, a boy with dark skin and hair knocked on the door before asking if he could join them, looking at the whiteboard with a bit of a puzzled expression. While Dani nodded her consent for the boy to join them, a tad uncomfortable because of how he was looking at her. The other girl answering the question posed on the whiteboard by stating that her name was Pearleane distracted Dani from her uncomfortableness, though her follow up question brought it back full force. It wasn’t that she cared much that Pearleane asked the question or was curious; it was that it would make the whole situation pretty awkward. “I suppose that you could say that,” Dani wrote on the whiteboard. “I was born mute.” After making sure that they both saw it, as it was rather tedious to have to keep repeating that, she hurriedly erased what she had written so that she could write “Don’t feel bad. You didn’t know. And I’m okay with that,” onto the board. The last thing she wanted was for them to feel bad about not knowing about her condition. Once again after making sure that they had both seen it, and that they were okay with that information, Dani wrote, “So what are you guys most excited about?” While she waited for a response, she happened to see another kid chasing what appeared to be a chocolate frog as it hopped down the aisle, his wand out as he tried to hit it with… something. Eyes wide, Dani tried to keep her focus on Pearleane while waiting for an answer in order to keep from overloading on weird stuff. So long as she could ignore that she and Pearleane and the new boy were witches and wizards.
I could probably get a post up tonight. :D
So, to pass the time, how is everyone doing? :D
Having obtained everything that she would need for her first year at Hogwarts a few weeks ago, Dani now stood in front of the pillar that the man from the Ministry assured her would take her to the platform where the train to the school, the Hogwarts Express, would be waiting. Unfortunately, that affirmation did very little to ease the anxiety that she was feeling. For someone who had never been away from home for more than a weekend at a time, leaving for an entire year was cause for nervousness and pangs of homesickness. And that wasn’t even considering the fact that she had been thrust into a world she hadn’t known existed until just a few weeks ago. Her dad, sensing her anxiety using some sort of parental super power, placed his hand on her back, a gesture which did bring her some measure of peace and comfort. Her parents, always supportive, had been with her every step of the way, tagging along with her as the Ministry worker helped her purchase everything that she would need despite the both of them being just as clueless as their daughter. And they were both there with her on the day she would leave for the year. Nodding, Dani followed the man from the Ministry as he stepped through the seemingly solid wall without flinching. Dani, however, was not actually able to suppress her reflexes and did end up stepping through the wall fully expecting to hit something solid, her eyes squinted shut and her body held stiffly. Of course, her parents were the exact same way, and the three of them together did attract a few glances from the other families around. The Ministry worker was already instructing a young lad who would, presumably, load her possessions onto the train for the ride. Of course, she was permitted to grab her pink and purple backpack, which contained the whiteboard she commonly used to communicate, a few of her drawing books, and some snacks for the trip. The backpack itself had actually attracted a few eyes already, as it stood out rather sharply from the norm. Before Dani could think further on that, the man from the Ministry finished instructing the lad concerning her luggage and turned to her and her family. “I’m dreadfully sorry,” he said, pulling out a pocket watch and glancing at the time, “but I’m afraid that she’s going to have to get on the train directly or she’ll miss it.” Her parents nodded their understanding, the man from the Ministry stepping aside so that they could say goodbye. Bending over, her father picked her up and hugged her tightly before setting her down so that her mother could do the same. “Remember, sweetie, we love you and are very proud of you,” her mother said, clearly trying her best not to cry. “We know that you’ll do fine, but write to us every so often anyway, okay?” Dani nodded to show that she would, telling them that she loved her them both and would miss them terribly using sign language. Her father, certain that he wouldn’t be able to speak very much without crying, merely affirmed that he loved her and would miss her as well. Then, after another round of hugs, she was stepping into the train and waving goodbye, trying to quell the pang of homesickness that hit. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to wave for very long, as she would be holding up the line of people desiring to get on the train and get situated. Once she was inside, she opened the door of one of the nearer compartments to see if it was occupied, only to be unceremoniously shoved in by the sudden influx of people as the engine of the train began to warm up. Unsure of her odds in trying to leave the compartment, primarily because that would involve fighting through the crowd of people, Dani sat down in the seat across from the girl, whom she now noticed was exceptionally pretty, with beautiful black hair that was a rather stark contrast to Dani's own light brown. Figuring the logical next step would be to introduce herself, Dani reached into her backpack and pulled out her whiteboard and a simple black marker. “Hello. Sorry for intruding,” she wrote, holding it up for them to see before erasing it to make room for more writing. “My name is Dani. May I ask what your name is?”
