And it's impossible to edit a status. Wonderful. I meant to say my hard drive is down; I'm working out of a flash drive now.

Whoops. That's one flash drive destroyed. Kids, take good care of your toys! For those concerned, thank you! I don't have any storage, but I do have access to a browser; roleplaying continues!

Ah! That's what this is! It's my old role-player guild account!
Hello, folks, from a friend new and old. Old in that I spent many happy hours fictating way back in Old-Guild before Lost Christmas, and then I spent some time in New-Guild during its beginning development; new in that I've been gone for two years, so a lot of the "faces" I was familiar with back then don't seem to be haunting the place these days. Whether you've known me before or not, I extend to you a hearty greeting and a virtual feast. If you'd like a name shorter than the full one, please call me Taro. I'm rather comfortable with that one.
Well, you didn't come here just to hear about my history. You're probably looking to see what kind of a role-player I am. Truthfully, I'm not totally certain right now; two years without practice does bring on a multitude of changes. Then again, even in those two years I've kept the creative spark fed and fanned, in isolation though it may have been, and I can tell you this much with great certainty: I like light-hearted laughter, soul-searching questions, and that precipice of commitment. My favorite settings would be: High Fantasy Modern Fantasy Science Fiction (new worlds, a newer Earth, even just in the immensity of space) I consider it a given that, where boys and girls coexist in a story, Romance will blossom. Horror I have a very weak stomach for. (I read the basic instructions for Betrayal at House on the Hill and had to consciously tell myself that night that everything was fine and I would sleep safely. I didn't even play a game; I only read the instructions!) I stay away from graphic violence, sexual depictions of any nature, and profanities. I'm very much a PG-rated writer; I plan on sharing everything I write as bedtime stories with my kids someday.
I play a convincing dude (I'm sure you never would have guessed that), but a vast majority of my favorite characters are female. So if you have romance in mind, I'm happy to play either party. If you don't want a romance, you will probably have to tell me that plainly. Then I'll just go with what feels right for the story, subject to a few personal whims which I hope will only bolster the plot and development.
I'm very picky as far as my own ideas go. I'll try just about everything I can think of to break the idea in order to insure there are no gaping plot holes. I invite everyone else to examine my ideas in a similar light--different people, different thought processes, different problems discovered--and to offer any compliments or constructive criticisms you have. As part of that, I absolutely love pushing the boundary of an idea as far as it will stretch, or looking for that odd, "I never thought of using it like that" approach to a character's abilities.
What else would I say with this space? I really like old poetry; reading Isaiah gives me the happy trembles. I hope I've presented a fair assessment of my writing style and capabilities through this brief introduction. I love creating--creating characters and bringing them to life from the page; creating worlds filled with fascinating lore and beautiful locales; creating stories, be they narrations of ordinary men and women facing their trials or epics of fated heroes overcoming every obstacle to save Dwarf-kind.
And, in closing, I'm excited for the chance to work with you. I should be able to post daily. PM me anytime, especially if you have a question about anything I've said here or elsewhere, but even if you only want to chat. You could even ask me about my mysterious two-year absence. I'll tell you now that I was in California, but that doesn't really answer the question. I'm happy to talk anytime.
Sweet water and light laughter until next we meet! -Taro

I will say that Oria has Arua and Edonil has his adopted daughter (or maybe just little sister. ^_^), so I'm not objecting to you having a companion. Just bear in mind that your magic is that of an untrained novice.
Okay, here's the general check I'm going to suggest (to be applied in any situation):
1. Is this important to the story? 2. Is this an important part of the character?
If it's not, you probably don't need it. I could have Saphira bring her squirrel or some other animal with her, but it would only be more clutter. Ruby could have connections in the town already that would give her more access, but that would just be making her a more powerful character without reason. So if your companion is important, there is a way to make it fit in. If it's just "bring it to scare Mizzie even more," then you don't need it.
As you wish. Waaaaay too much baggage to add in. If you want to be a part of this RP, you can make a character for this RP. Interdimensional explorers aren't welcome.
But you have to think of the size as well. The amount of magic it would take to summon a 40 kg gray wolf is more than a novice has.

Screams of fear, cries of pain, wails of the dieing, and shrieks of the beasts. All these sounds mixed in the air to form a horrific, sorrowful ballad. It was a song that Ruri wished to never hear again. She wished she did not have to hear it now, but she could not tune out the desperate cries that filled her ears.
A high-pitched scream came from a building on her left. Ruri's heart skipped a beat--that was the cry of a child. Without pausing even a moment more Ruri burst through the door and leaped up the stairs. The child was still emptying his impressively large lungs, guiding Ruri to the room he was in. "Yala NAUR!" Ruri cried as she shouldered through the half-open door.
A ghoul was crouched on a bed dyed red, feasting on the corpse that had fallen over it. The screaming was coming from beneath the bed, a second ghoul clawing at the bedside to get at the boy hidden underneath. Ruri threw the small ball of fire she held in her hand at the lower ghoul. It burst across the abomination's back, a small hole appearing as the heat melted away the black hide. With a shriek of pain, the ghoul turned on Ruri and ran at her, taking two steps and leaping.
Ruri slammed the door closed behind her. The wood proved too hard for the creature's face to break through, a loud thump resounding from the other side. After a moment, one clawed hand burst through the door, reaching blindly for the small redhead. Ruri jumped up, grabbed the ghoul's forearm below the joint, and yanked sideways as hard as she could. With a loud snap the creature's arm became unusable, bent backward and pressed against the wood. It screamed and thrashed about but could not extract its broken arm from the door.
Ruri pushed the door open again, throwing her weight into it to open it all the way. The ghoul behind it was pressed between the door and the wall, stopping its thrashing for a moment. Ruri took the chance to run forward. The first ghoul was still feeding, not seeming to care about the commotion its partner was causing. Ruri ran straight toward it, knowing the other ghoul wouldn't be far behind her. She reached the bed and threw herself onto her side, rolling under the bed before the monster above her could decide to stop her. It took Ruri a few moments to orient herself after a few turns and the light becoming dim so quickly, but when she did manage to look she found the little boy pressed up against the wall.
"It's okay! I'm going to save you!" Ruri reassured him. But even if she said that, her options were limited. The ghoul she'd left behind the door had finally pulled its own arm off to get loose and crashed into the side of the bed, its last hand scratching at the floor near Ruri. She looked around the space under the bed. There were a few stockings and a shirt, but what made Ruri celebrate was when she saw a stone about the size of her fist. She didn't question her luck; she just used it. "Kemen," she said quietly. The stone lifted from the floor and flew to where the ghoul was still trying to get at them, this time by shoving its head down low. The stone met it in its open mouth, cracking a few teeth and wedging into the others.
That one was dealt with. Ruri pulled herself to the screaming child and held out her hand. "Don't worry! You'll be alright!" The boy looked at her with tearful eyes. Ruri could see the fear in his eyes, but what made Ruri's heart swell was the spark of courage she could see right alongside it. The boy put his hand in Ruri's and gave a small nod. Ruri smiled back at him.
Binding something living is difficult and complex. A Conjurer lacking formal schooling would be unlikely to manage it. I'm not going to say it's impossible; Adam had a hornet last time. A wolf is probably out, though.

Hey momotaros, tell me about the mystic artes and how they worked in version 1
A Mystic Arte is unique to each character. We didn't actually get far enough to use them, but it's your one chance to overpower a skill. Uses are incredibly limited and your level restricts its power, but it was going to be a super-move to trump simple artes or survive a desperate situation.

Why do you care so much about mystic artes that may or may not be returning ._.
Because I'm already planning for a situation in which Tyrell uses "The Thief Lord" entirely on emotion. I want my chance to look cool, you know?
