And it's impossible to edit a status. Wonderful. I meant to say my hard drive is down; I'm working out of a flash drive now.

Whoops. That's one flash drive destroyed. Kids, take good care of your toys! For those concerned, thank you! I don't have any storage, but I do have access to a browser; roleplaying continues!

Driving on my lunch break when a random kid on the sidewalk yells, "It's the internet man! Hi internet man!" Spend the rest of Monday feeling like a champ.

Ah! That's what this is! It's my old role-player guild account!
Hello, folks, from a friend new and old. Old in that I spent many happy hours fictating way back in Old-Guild before Lost Christmas, and then I spent some time in New-Guild during its beginning development; new in that I've been gone for two years, so a lot of the "faces" I was familiar with back then don't seem to be haunting the place these days. Whether you've known me before or not, I extend to you a hearty greeting and a virtual feast. If you'd like a name shorter than the full one, please call me Taro. I'm rather comfortable with that one.
Well, you didn't come here just to hear about my history. You're probably looking to see what kind of a role-player I am. Truthfully, I'm not totally certain right now; two years without practice does bring on a multitude of changes. Then again, even in those two years I've kept the creative spark fed and fanned, in isolation though it may have been, and I can tell you this much with great certainty: I like light-hearted laughter, soul-searching questions, and that precipice of commitment. My favorite settings would be: High Fantasy Modern Fantasy Science Fiction (new worlds, a newer Earth, even just in the immensity of space) I consider it a given that, where boys and girls coexist in a story, Romance will blossom. Horror I have a very weak stomach for. (I read the basic instructions for Betrayal at House on the Hill and had to consciously tell myself that night that everything was fine and I would sleep safely. I didn't even play a game; I only read the instructions!) I stay away from graphic violence, sexual depictions of any nature, and profanities. I'm very much a PG-rated writer; I plan on sharing everything I write as bedtime stories with my kids someday.
I play a convincing dude (I'm sure you never would have guessed that), but a vast majority of my favorite characters are female. So if you have romance in mind, I'm happy to play either party. If you don't want a romance, you will probably have to tell me that plainly. Then I'll just go with what feels right for the story, subject to a few personal whims which I hope will only bolster the plot and development.
I'm very picky as far as my own ideas go. I'll try just about everything I can think of to break the idea in order to insure there are no gaping plot holes. I invite everyone else to examine my ideas in a similar light--different people, different thought processes, different problems discovered--and to offer any compliments or constructive criticisms you have. As part of that, I absolutely love pushing the boundary of an idea as far as it will stretch, or looking for that odd, "I never thought of using it like that" approach to a character's abilities.
What else would I say with this space? I really like old poetry; reading Isaiah gives me the happy trembles. I hope I've presented a fair assessment of my writing style and capabilities through this brief introduction. I love creating--creating characters and bringing them to life from the page; creating worlds filled with fascinating lore and beautiful locales; creating stories, be they narrations of ordinary men and women facing their trials or epics of fated heroes overcoming every obstacle to save Dwarf-kind.
And, in closing, I'm excited for the chance to work with you. I should be able to post daily. PM me anytime, especially if you have a question about anything I've said here or elsewhere, but even if you only want to chat. You could even ask me about my mysterious two-year absence. I'll tell you now that I was in California, but that doesn't really answer the question. I'm happy to talk anytime.
Sweet water and light laughter until next we meet! -Taro
Hmm... You do have a lot of supporters in there, @vosenedich. I suppose I went the other way: lots of weapons. And I'm still giddy about how well the battlemage lines up with that deck!
Name: Adam Meyers Age: 24 Profession: Student Teacher (History) Nationality: United States
Personality: Obsessive (though he would rather call it passionate). Primarily about history, myth, and legend. He still hasn't figured out the whole "how to court a woman" or even a basic level of "how to treat a girl," so he still has never had a significant other--just a few dates that went... very poorly. When he's not distracted with old architecture or new historical finds, he can be pretty nice. Helpful even. But his thoughts tend to always be somewhere else, even when you're talking to him.
Interest In Trading Card Games: It's a game about the old legends he's so fond of teaching. He had to jump in.
Bio: He was the nerd in high school. Adam accepted that a long time ago. He rocked it, too; 4.0 GPA, even in P.E. (not every nerd has to be out of shape; do you realize how much work it takes to be part of an archaeological dig? Or to tour Rome? Or to bike to work because he can't afford a car?) After high school, Adam went right on into college to study history further, and he soon arrived at the conclusion that he wanted to teach history. Preparing his classes to that end, he is just wrapping up his Master's Degree so he can be a full-time teacher. In the meantime, he works as a student teacher at the university for the lower-level history classes: American history, the Renaissance, ancient Egypt, the Orient. The older it is, the more Adam likes it (and yes, it can be painful at times to live in such a young country).
Like Balthazar said, Brass can be leader and approach the king himself. He doesn't need Freya for that. That's not to say Freya won't help him; if he's looking to hire a healer, you'll find none better in the character sheets than Freya. And she would just love to hear all of his stories of adventure on the high seas!
Alrighty. I tried swapping it out with the same image from a different site. Is it working now?
Also, @Fetzen and/or @rush99999, if one of your characters would like to be team leader, he can have recruited Freya to act as leader in approaching the king. She would volunteer to help anyone who needed it.
Name: Freya Cattail Age: 21 Race/Class: Human Druid
Posting Rate: Up to once a day (barring extenuating circumstances, which are infrequent), but not on Sunday Karma: 0
Team Leader of: Team Member of:
Coins: 5
Appearance: Freya stands at 5' 2", small and light. She has hazel eyes and a bright smile. Blonde hair hangs down to her shoulders, often pulled back into a ponytail to be out of the way. Her clothing is very plain: she'll usually wear a simple, modest dress made of cotton, preferably of a soft blue hue and typically without design or ornamentation; as the weather turns cold, she'll switch to her wool dress.
Personality: The first word for Freya is compassionate. She cares about people and strives to help everyone she sees in need. Add to that a general lack of knowledge of the wide world and an innocence that borders naive (though she has received warnings about the world and "big city people" from her aunt). She's very diligent and a hard worker; although she has little physical strength, she has a certain farm-life ingenuity for finding ways to accomplish her task.
Biography: Freya was raised with eight siblings on a farm just a few miles out from the small village of Featherstone. She helped tend the animals sometimes, particularly when they were birthing or when one was ill, but mostly left the work in the pasture to her six brothers. She and her two younger sisters helped their mother around the house: cooking, baking, sewing, tending the herb garden, and those other small forms of maintenance to keep a farm working efficiently. As she grew older, Freya sought out opportunities to go with the local doctor--both to help patients and to gather supplies from the forest. When she became a woman, with her parents' blessing Freya left home to study with her aunt, a witch for a fishing community on the coast. Learning from her the basics of magic (and particularly interested in being able to cure sickness), Freya added it to her former knowledge of medicine and confidently declared herself a healer.
Then came the day her aunt told her to go into the wide world. A small fishing community, or the even smaller farming village she had been raised in, wasn't enough for Freya to flourish, she said. She wanted Freya to reach more people than that. A little frightened (though emboldened by all the advice her aunt had to give her), Freya set out to find her calling in Adventum--beginning her search at the heart of it all, in the City of Adventum.
I am intrigued. I am filled with questions at the same time. There's one that's relevant to the task at hand: What's the difference between Elemental and Arcane affinities? And which one would a healer have?
The red string of fate connects us all, pulling some together and drawing some apart. The fates, it is said, will bring each of us into the lives of those we are supposed to know--and in turn, those persons will change our own lives. For better or for worse, who can say; we only know that the change is lasting as tide and time carry each of us onward.
But just how strong is that thread? How much can it pull to bring two people together? Could it pull across an entire world? Could it reach even farther? Could it grab a single person in an ordinary life--with work, friends, a home, a phone--and pull her the distance of eternity and further, into a place that never was? What's more, could it pull her--and that person to whom she had so dramatically been brought--could it pull them back?
Just how thick must a thread be before we declare it a rope? For one truth is certain: the fate of two individuals has been tied together.
