And it's impossible to edit a status. Wonderful. I meant to say my hard drive is down; I'm working out of a flash drive now.

Whoops. That's one flash drive destroyed. Kids, take good care of your toys! For those concerned, thank you! I don't have any storage, but I do have access to a browser; roleplaying continues!

Ah! That's what this is! It's my old role-player guild account!

Hello, folks, from a friend new and old. Old in that I spent many happy hours fictating way back in Old-Guild before Lost Christmas, and then I spent some time in New-Guild during its beginning development; new in that I've been gone for two years, so a lot of the "faces" I was familiar with back then don't seem to be haunting the place these days. Whether you've known me before or not, I extend to you a hearty greeting and a virtual feast. If you'd like a name shorter than the full one, please call me Taro. I'm rather comfortable with that one.

Well, you didn't come here just to hear about my history. You're probably looking to see what kind of a role-player I am. Truthfully, I'm not totally certain right now; two years without practice does bring on a multitude of changes. Then again, even in those two years I've kept the creative spark fed and fanned, in isolation though it may have been, and I can tell you this much with great certainty:
I like light-hearted laughter, soul-searching questions, and that precipice of commitment.
My favorite settings would be:
High Fantasy
Modern Fantasy
Science Fiction (new worlds, a newer Earth, even just in the immensity of space)
I consider it a given that, where boys and girls coexist in a story, Romance will blossom.
Horror I have a very weak stomach for. (I read the basic instructions for Betrayal at House on the Hill and had to consciously tell myself that night that everything was fine and I would sleep safely. I didn't even play a game; I only read the instructions!)
I stay away from graphic violence, sexual depictions of any nature, and profanities. I'm very much a PG-rated writer; I plan on sharing everything I write as bedtime stories with my kids someday.

I play a convincing dude (I'm sure you never would have guessed that), but a vast majority of my favorite characters are female. So if you have romance in mind, I'm happy to play either party. If you don't want a romance, you will probably have to tell me that plainly. Then I'll just go with what feels right for the story, subject to a few personal whims which I hope will only bolster the plot and development.

I'm very picky as far as my own ideas go. I'll try just about everything I can think of to break the idea in order to insure there are no gaping plot holes. I invite everyone else to examine my ideas in a similar light--different people, different thought processes, different problems discovered--and to offer any compliments or constructive criticisms you have. As part of that, I absolutely love pushing the boundary of an idea as far as it will stretch, or looking for that odd, "I never thought of using it like that" approach to a character's abilities.

What else would I say with this space? I really like old poetry; reading Isaiah gives me the happy trembles. I hope I've presented a fair assessment of my writing style and capabilities through this brief introduction. I love creating--creating characters and bringing them to life from the page; creating worlds filled with fascinating lore and beautiful locales; creating stories, be they narrations of ordinary men and women facing their trials or epics of fated heroes overcoming every obstacle to save Dwarf-kind.

And, in closing, I'm excited for the chance to work with you. I should be able to post daily. PM me anytime, especially if you have a question about anything I've said here or elsewhere, but even if you only want to chat. You could even ask me about my mysterious two-year absence. I'll tell you now that I was in California, but that doesn't really answer the question. I'm happy to talk anytime.

Sweet water and light laughter until next we meet!
-Taro

Braden sheathed his sword long enough to cup his hands as a foothold and launch Daeris up, then pulled it out again. He was about to join in the fray when it got a lot larger. He hesitated a moment, but the war between snakes and pheasants was raging and they wouldn't get any experience for monsters killing each other. Time to start cutting.

"Biri-Biri, keep your lightning focused on that side." The last thing Braden wanted while cutting through snakes and pheasants was friendly lightning striking his sword. "Daeris, keep an eye on your ammo and tell me when you're below twenty. And see if that kid wants to join." He'd be a handful without a doubt, but the kid was doing well. He was testing what the game would do, pushing past the limits other games had baked into players' minds.

can I spend all twelve levels on 1 skill?

No. Skill cap is level 5.

So your listed styles aren't the actual levels you're character started off, rather it's like a progress tree correct?

Precisely.
I'm going to explain the character sheet as best I can by what Mizuho had last time:

Name:
Age:
Appearance: (You've got these three, I'm sure)
Style/Levels: This will be all twelve levels that your character will eventually have. Seeing how your character will advance will help everyone else plan their characters as well. Then choose one of those as your starter skill and make five etras (artes, moves, spells--an ability that is slightly magical) to go along with it. (I suggest labeling these as Current Abilities.)
Weapons: You aren't limited to just your skill. Anybody can know how to use any weapon. But don't use every weapon.
Personality: Again, this is a small advanced notice for the other players. A party is most fun with different sorts.
History: A good history should include what other people may know about your character, and how they came by their abilities.
Why are you on this journey?: There has to be a believable reason your character is caught up in this.
Miscellaneous: Quirks, thoughts, habits--anything that you want to add to flesh your character out a little more. This isn't necessary; anything you may put here could be worked in IC.

I'm so excited for this! So many possibilities for a character. :) I do have a question though. Would debuffs/hindering/status effect etras be located under combat magic? Just wondering, since they're not fully 'offensive' magic like fireballs and lightning strike. :p

There's a certain amount of leeway there. A weapon etra could include a debuff, as could a fisticuff etra. But I think your question was support magic vs. combat magic, so:
Support Magic is going to be most powerful for helping allies. Combat magic is used for hurting enemies. So the greater debuffs or similar would be a part of combat magic.

Ohhh wait, are the Mystic Artes or whatever gone? Joyeuse was a pretty big part of Joscelin's character, and now it would seem kinda overpowered if no one else gets anything like that.

It seems that Mystic Artes are indeed gone. What I would suggest is making Joyeuse its own Skill. Or make it an etra within a sword skill that you continue to level.
@Necrosis You said we went to the bank before we left to fight the snakes.
Name: Tyrell Varn
Age: 17
Appearance:
Tyrell has fair skin and a lithe body. From the right angle, an onlooker might make a remark about how pretty that girl is. If Tyrell heard, he would promptly punch that man in the face and dare him to call Tyrell a girl again. He keeps his hair trimmed short and has some muscle mass, but he really is borderline feminine.
Style/Levels: Weaponry (dagger) - 4; Summoning (fairy) - 4; Combat Magic (twilight) - 2; Support magic (twilight) - 2
Weapons: Dagger, back-up dagger, spare dagger, boot knife

Personality: "Let me put it this way. About a month back..."
Tyrell quietly stepped through the gate into town, his cowl back so he could feel the sun on his face. A pair of men, their breath stinking of alcohol and their bodies just stinking, stopped him not ten meters in.
"Well now, wuz a preddy lady lak you doin' travlin' alon?"
"Maybe you'd like a bit o' comp'ny?"
Tyrell's face twitched. His arms did a little more than twitch.

A short time later, Tyrell found himself in the guardhouse, face to face with the captain of the guard.
"Come on! They were askin' for it! A pair of scumbags like that, botherin' travellers as soon as they enter town? If you ask me, you should be thankin' me!"
"You bit a man's ear off, and the other has a stab wound in the leg."
"Heh. Wouldn't a' been his thigh if your man hadn't interrupted me."
"You pulled a weapon in town. In addition, these are not your coin purses."
"They owed me some compensation! What are you mad at me for? They started it. I was just cleaning up some trash! If you did your job properly, I wouldn't a' had to do it for you!"

Tyrell picked himself up and sighed. That could've gone better. Well, sometimes that's how the dice fall. He brushed off some dirt from where he'd landed after being literally tossed out of town and started off down the road. At least he'd managed to snag the three coin purses when the captain had lost his temper. The two drunks had practically been broke already, but the one from the captain felt somewhat hefty. He whistled a merry tune as he walked on.

History: ^ That's about how his life has been recently.
Previously, Tyrell worked as a part of a children's gang. He spent his childhood stealing food and picking pockets to feed himself and his friends. When he was close to being a teenager, a rival gang appeared and destroyed them in a turf war. Tyrell made it out, as did a few others, but the gang was dead. They moved to a new city and joined up with the gang there. To Tyrell's astonishment, anyone who didn't know him assumed him to be a girl. It got to be rather dangerous for him, so he learned how to use a knife from an older gang member. He soon proved rather good at it, and rumors of the demon girl sprang up around town.
When that gang made trouble in the wrong place, the army was brought against them. Again Tyrell ran, but this time he ran alone. He's been on his own since, about two years now. He steals to stay alive, and sometimes just for the thrill of it, but that's hardly a lifetime occupation. Even a guy missing a moral or two wants something more in life, y'know?

Current Abilities:
Summoning 1 - Fairy
name: Elizabeth
Appearance:
Etra:
Lv 1 Zip - Liz moves at three times her normal speed for three seconds.
Lv 1 Cry - Liz screams long and loud, temporarily deafening those nearby and attracting any dogs nearby.
Lv 1 Dagger - Liz always has her little dagger and the skill to use it.
Lv 1 Flutter - Liz mutes the sound of her wings for five minutes.
Lv 1 Shadow Ball - Liz launches a small ball of darkness, doing magical damage and numbing whatever part of the target she hits.
How they became your summon: Technically, Tyrell stole her. But he really never would have brought her if she hadn't asked. He was taking a few unused items from a house that had many such valuables. Liz was bound to an artifact; he grabbed it; she appeared; he was surprised and dropped it; it shattered. She's sticking with Tyrell now.
The guy was sitting on a floating rock and shooting snakes. And he accepted the invite anyway, so he was basically power-leveling them at the moment. "Yeah, I hear you. Smart place to be." Braden cast Daeris a sideways glance. "Nice find. I'm gonna call him Biri-Biri. Should we just stand here and watch?" He would never be content with that, though, and the grin he flashed the elf conveyed as much. His arms had had a brief chance to rest, so he felt like he could go on--a sentiment he wouldn't share in a few minutes, he knew, but he was stubborn enough to continue anyway. Braden pulled his Fowl Sword from its sheath as he evaluated the battlefield.

Any nearby snakes had swarmed to Biri-Biri. The dozen beneath him were slowly losing health, still launching themselves up at the small mage, bouncing off his stone perch, and burrowing into the ground again. Chips of the boulder were dropping down after each impact, so it was only a matter of time before the thing cracked. And Biri-Biri wouldn't have enough mana to kill all the snakes--to kill any if he kept spreading damage out like he was. So the first step right now was to lure some snakes away. But only one or two.

"Think you can hit one on the edge? If you pull more than three it'll hurt. Five would probably kill us." He asked Daeris aloud, rather than using the team chat. The worry was probably unfounded; Biri-Biri had already injured them all, so only the one Daeris shot should turn on them. Theoretically. His gaze remained fixed on the scene ahead of him, trying to pick out the pattern among the snakes for when and where they would emerge.
We're as close as we need to be. Necrosis's post says "She spotted a blue-haired mage." We were moving toward the snakes, you caught her eye. It is on this assumption I'm going to be making my next post.
I'll be back once I've finished my tweaks.
