As the strange man escaped the store and the blonde slammed the door closed, Chris let go of the young girl, tugged Tony close to her, and pointed the rifle at the store. More than anything she wanted to wrap her arms around Tony and reassure herself that he was okay, alive, and uninjured. But as she stared down the sights of the rifle at the undead beating themselves against the store front windows, sounds of more undead getting closer, she knew she wouldn't be able to do that for a while.

Another voice jolted Chris out of her thoughts. She spun to face it, gun raised until she saw the scantily dressed woman and her dog. Hesitantly, Chris lowered her gun just a little. No sooner had she lowered the gun than a walker stumbled into view behind the girl. “Move!” Chris shouted, lifting the rifle again, before another girl dropped from a tree above them and landed a blow to the walker with a shovel.

Too much happened at once; she struggled to think and place each of the survivors in her mind, and keep Tony close at the same time. She was failing already. For his part, Tony silently pressed himself against her shoulder. It was a small comfort, and he knew it was all he could do for her in the moment.

“We need to go . . . If we stick together for a while we’ve got a better chance of getting through this.”

Tony and Chris thought the very same. The glass windows would not hold the horde for long, and not a moment after the blonde spoke, the sounds of another herd became too loud to ignore. With one look in the direction of the undead filling the street, diving the town in half like a moving wall of rotting flesh, Chris' stoicism returned.

Her eyes flickered to the next pair of arrivals; two people about her age. She started to take a mental count of everyone they had encountered. The blonde and the little girl, that's two... the man in the cabinet, the woman in blue, the girl with the shovel... and now the newest couple. Seven. Not including herself and Tony. While the blonde was right, there were too many to keep an eye on them all.

Still, they did have to move.

One of the girls – Rena, she called herself – spoke of a third horde at the other end of town, and survivors. Chris began to feel caged. The group started batting ideas around.

“They'll be fine,” she added. “They have each other. We can't risk it.”

As soon as Rena grabbed the woman in blue and pulled, Chris swung the rifle over her shoulders once again and turned to take the blonde woman's hand. She felt responsible for hers and her young companion's life, now, and she'd be damned if she let two bullets go to waste by letting the blonde die. “Tony-- the girl,” she instructed, then took off towards the forest, confident her friend would follow.

Tony nodded, stuffed the crowbar into his belt loop and made to follow Christina with the girl.

Good enough for us!

So I had ideas about keeping this RP thriving. Obviously, like all RPs, it's likely to slow a bit, and I see that as being when the initial night at Mingle is over. So I was thinking that there should be regular "events", between day-to-day scenes, of things like open-mic nights at a local café, an exhibition, Pride, etc. Just to give the characters something to look forward to and do and create more reasons for them to socialise. You could also encourage personal "events" within characters' lives that fuel the RP.

I don't know, thoughts!
“You're bringing a book?” The look on Willow's face told Charlie that maybe bringing a book to the bar was a bad idea.

“You said it was just a juice bar, didn't you? I can take book to a juice bar.” She hugged her worn copy of Archer's Cross to her chest, awkwardly hiding it in the open top half of her shirt. If not for Willow's intervention, she would have been wearing paint-spattered dungarees and a beanie. Instead, she was made to wear a freshly ironed shirt and jeans; the icing on the top of the being-forced-out-for-the-night cake. Her best friend had good intentions, she was sure, but the idea of this “Mingle” place didn't sit well.

Willow glared at the book as if it had intentionally screwed with her plans. Finally, she huffed, locked her front door and strode into the street. She subjected Charlie to a long rant about the need for human connection as they walked to the juice bar. Willow lived on the edge of town, but the juice bar wasn't a long way off, and Charlie didn't trust her to drive even if she was going to be sober.

The bouncer was terrifying. Willow flashed her friendliest smile, and her ID, and Charlie followed suit, minus the smile. At the all-clear, they entered Mingle, and Charlie froze at the sight of the glow sticks. Willow hadn't told her about that. She groaned. “Will, what are those?”

“What do you think? They're required, okay? It's no biggie. Here.” Willow picked one green and one blue glow stick from the piles and wrapped them both around Charlie's left wrist. She stepped back to admire her work, pressing a hand to her chest in mock surprise. “Oh, look at that! They don't bite, isn't that something?” Laughing, she chose a yellow bracelet for herself and walked into the bar. Charlie mimicked her laugh while her back was turned, then followed.

Charlie took a good look around, and wondered if they were early. Was “fashionably early” a thing? She hated the vulnerability that sunk into her as she stood in the middle of the room. “Okay, I came, I saw, and now I want to go home. Off we go, yeah?” She made to leave, but Willow grabbed her arm and dragged her to the bar. A strawberry and banana smoothie slid into her hands a moment later, courtesy of the bartender. She cursed Willow for knowing her vices so well.

The woman had planned this too thoroughly, Charlie decided. She took her drink and slipped into a booth, opening her book so she could hide behind it. Willow bounced after her like an impatient puppy, scanning the bar with narrowed eyes, like some sort of cartoon villain, for a suitable match.

Charlie prayed she would give up quickly.
Rarity said You are of course approved. I love her. As a note, this "bar" does not serve alcohol. Mingle is for it's name sake. The owners do not serve anything that would mess with people's judgement skills. Sorry if there was any confusion.

Why, thank you. Ah, yes, I'm going with the idea that Charlie would immediately assume a place like Mingle houses drunks, even if it doesn't. Anything she can use to get out of it.
Girl! I'm still considering what to do about a second character. I'm likely to add one.
Name:
Charlotte Burton.

Nickname:
Charlie.

Age:
23.

Biography:
Charlotte moved around a lot as a kid, and not within just one country. Her parents were both diplomatic officials from London, and while they adored their daughter and the time they did have to spend with her, they were often busy. At fourteen years old, she made the independent decision to quit travelling with her parents, explaining that she would rather they not feel guilty, and spend time with her when they're not liable to be called away. So Charlie went to live with her Aunt Veronica.

Life with her aunt was comfortable, and happy, and so Charlie developed a tendency to never stray far from her comfort zone. A trait for which she is frequently mocked by her friends. She met Willow shortly after moving in with her aunt, and the two quickly became friends. Over time, similar people migrated to the pair, and through classic yet nonetheless painful teenage trails, they formed a strong bond. Charlie is still close friends with everyone from that small, cosy social circle. It was those friends who helped her pick up the pieces after “Hurricane Hughes”.

Jennifer Hughes; beautiful, interesting, and loving... until she got bored. For just a short while Charlie thought she was in love, but the break-up two years ago has left her thinking she's too boring a person for romance. While she was and is incredibly hurt, she's quite happy with her little life; she paints for exhibitions, she runs a newly-opened bookstore (her parents, currently in Sweden, presented her with a run-down store to let for her twenty-third birthday), and she has a comfortable pool of friends to hang out with.

She feared what would happen if that changed.

The bookstore, which she named Reid & Wright's, is of great importance to her. It doubles as a miniature café and wifi hotspot, which never fails to bring in the customers. Before her birthday, she worked as an intern editor for a small-time magazine, and it was exactly the opposite of what she wanted to do. The routine, the blank white office walls, the horrible bosses, it all but crushed Charlie's soul. So, she treats the bookstore like her child; wants the very best for it, but terrified nonetheless.

She lives in the apartment above it with her dog, a German Shepherd named Sirius, who she often lets walk around the store and greet customers for her. It works like a charm. At the moment all she wants to do is fix up the store. Farther than that, she's not entirely sure where she wants her life to go.

Why did your character want to come to this bar?
She didn't. Charlie was dragged to Mingle by her best friend, Willow, who can't seem to comprehend that Charlie couldn't care less about bars, drinking, or being in any sort of shared space with drunk, overly-friendly singles. But at least if she does this one thing for Willow, she can pull the "you owe me" card later.

What color glow stick will they wear:
Green and blue.
Fantastic. I'll post up the sheet soon. My character, Charlie, runs a bookstore that is always open for a meeting spot as the RP develops.
I totally already have a character sheet sketched out. I'm an over-achiever, whoops.
I was planning/considering/hoping that Tony and Chris would be separated at some point. Not only is it realistically likely to happen, but it would also do wonders for their character development.
