Background: Avery moved to California to attend college while living in her paternal aunt's bed and breakfast as well as working there, leaving her mother and step-father back in Vermont. Although somewhat close to her mother once upon a time, Avery had a gut-deep dislike of her step-father, and moving away for college was the best way to get away from an uncomfortable home. She finished school at 23 and a couple weeks after she turned 25, her aunt passed away, leaving the B&B to the only other person who genuinely cared for it - Avery.
