30, born in 1272 on the waning day of June.

Origin :
Seventh son of the prior scion of the House Perar, born near the Barbarian lands during his father's time as a Marshal in the Legion of Nurvlin.

Length and build :
Roughly 5 inches above six feet, Valfunde is tall and built powerfully, but with some noticeable wear and premature sag/aging in an otherwise thick build from a life of over-exertion.

Weight :
Somewhere around 200 lbs.

Sexuality :
He loves the very idea of women, but finds beauty in anyone. He is only attracted to women, however. He has known many throughout his life.

Except with a slightly longer moustache, droopy. His hair is a very dark bruin, nearing black. His eyes too are dark, with a bit of an icy hue within them. Like flecks of ice in shadows. He is a handsome man, by modern standards, though he has not short hair nor shaven face as is now the fashion in the Imperial nobility, keeping instead to the old ways.

Current Head of the lesser noble House of Perar. He only ascenced to this role some three years ago, upon the death of his father and three of his closest brothers in an incident. He also aids Lord Rynir with the running of Delias' city guard, many of which are Perar footmen or second sons of this House looking for some glory. Former Knight-Protector to Lady Joanne Tinath, his (then-future) wife who has since died.

"There is much power within you, yet to be thought over and wielded. You will survive."

Favorite Food :
Roasted game, usually stag or boar, cooked with mushrooms, onions and the like. And wines of any kind.

Favorite Weather and Season :
He lives for the summer, where the Hunt is good and the fighting, fucking spirits of men and women are roused once again from the slumber of the Winter. He has near-veneration for this time, as he imagines all men and beasts must.

Patron God/Goddess :
Noxios, and surprisingly, Iatia. He discovered a guitar among the possessions of a barbarian raid his command routed, and since then, while finding it not as well-made or civilized as the harps customary to the Empire, has spent much alone-time since attempting to create beautiful music with it. He venerates Rolor only as a fellow warrior, so as not to be struck down in battle and to grant him courage.

Valfunde views anyone as a potential enemy, trusting no one completely if he senses they're trying to convince him of something. His family have often called him paranoid, but often these feelings have a tendency to prove true (enough), and he's not often deceived. (This is mostly due to the traumatic actions which took his father from him.)Despite this, he respects strength of character and will, even grudgingly in his rivals. Calm and extremely sensitive to his own feelings and those of the people who surround him, he views the world as soberly as he can, knowing that the easiest way to survive is to create as little of a negative impact as possible. He's friendly and sweet-hearted, in spite of everything in his life that has tried to shape him otherwise. He usually looks to be deep in some detached thought, almost brooding. This makes many think he's distracted from the affairs of the world.

History :
Born in the heat of the Summer, Valfunde was one of the many sons of legendarily boisterous Marshal Alicyon Perar, who was at that time still serving far away from home with the Legion, having been sent away by his House to build a reputation for the family and himself. Val grew up in the wispy cold of the North, only having a chance to exchange layers upon layers of furs for his tunic when the summer came and the sun beat hard into the land. Despite his dislike of the frost, he learned quickly from the soldiers surrounding his charismatic father how to adapt to the temper of the land and even learned from them how to track beasts (and men) through it.

His mother, Dame Isolde, was a strongly-built woman well-suited to the land, and while she didn't dote on him so much as his older brothers, he grew to respect her and through her all other women due to the tough lessons she allowed him to learn alongside the commoner soldiers. From this was born a lifelong respect for the lower-born class, and he swore to these men he'd see them again someday. They laughed, thinking the scrappy young lad but a naive child to want to return.

He first saw Deliar as a youth of 11, when Alicyon returned home in a victory parade that led him finally to claim his seat at the head of his House. The city presented a new world to the boy, but he also found it full of liars, men who feigned honor only to have others cut their rivals down, and this bothered the naive fantasies that he had held about the Empire from watching his father. While not much is know about this time of his life by others outside the direct family, he had a serious mental breakdown after living in Deliar for the next five years. His ideals fragile and his personality now seemingly haunted and eternally lonely even around others, he stayed apart from the Deliar court and kept company with the Perar bondsmen, upon the agreement of his parents. Despite all this, he made good recovery from his mental illness and volunteered for Legion duties after a short stay at the Academy that refreshed his psychological need for his world of honor and swordsmen to exist.

Serving as an officer along the barbarian border, he led a series of minor raids along both sides of the line and was eventually given command of a small hunting squad which pursued escaped prisoners and political refugees attempting to escape the Emperor's justice. During this period, he was married off to the young Lady Joanne Tinath, eventually falling in love with her and bearing a daughter by her. Unfortunately, births in the North are difficult to recover from, and two months later, both mother and child had perished along with many others in one of the terrible fevers that reign in the winter. While this greatly hurt Valfunde, he soldiered on and served with great note after this incident. He retired from active command four years ago and returned home upon his mother's death, and was thankfully there to regain control upon his father's death. He definitely had never planned on being appointed to lead the House, but has tried his best since to live up to what has been asked of him, working closely with nobles already well placed in the social hierarchy to provide himself with a safe net within which to cast himself into this new game of politics...

Over this, he wears a dark purple tabard/kilt adorned with the Burning Sun of the Perar crest and a matching colored tartan pattern. Over all this, he wears a heavy wolf-fur cape. In battle, he wears plated gauntlets with spikes affixed to the knuckles, a dirty trick he picked up in the North. (Oh, and the helmet has a full face mask/shield, not just the eyes/noseguard.)

Description :
An old sword, traditionally wielded by the Sire of House Perar, whoever he may be. While mostly a relic and ceremonial, its ugly history is one of bloodshed and much killing, having been forged long ago by noble ancestors who eventually founded the House long ago during the dark ages.
Appearance :

Long enough to be wielded better with two hands, but still short enough for urban combat. Unlike the image, it is more or less straight near the hilt, shaped like a leaf to the end.

He also carries a pair of hand-axes on his person, looped through his belt, should he be in need of them.

His steed, a stubborn asshole of a horse he affectionately refers to as the Ol' Bastard. Not the fastest horse, but sturdy and brutish enough to keep going long after a sprinter or charger would have broken down.

He is an excellent tracker, having honed himself on the Northern frontlines hunting barbarians and other enemies through deadly, silent forests, and a near matchless ambush killer. This has given him impeccable hearing and eyesight, and his eyes often dart all about when passing through a quiet street or a crowd. His stamina is toughened due to this. He is a talented swordfighter but relies more on his strength than technique.

He's got a poetic way of looking at the world, seeing much in romantist terms and even finding dramatic personae in the people around him. Though this sometimes forces him deep into the grimmer realities of the Court and the Battlefield (his two places of duty now), he has never let it weaken him. Besides this, he's got a strong singing voice which surprisingly carries a lot of emotion and melancholy within it. He is kind but sometimes overly emotional.

I'll have my character sheet up in an hour or so. What do we know about the heads of the Houses Perar and Tinath?

Oh, and I think having assassins or hired-swords on hand has been something noble houses have been doing since pre-Roman times. Of course, they wouldn't be wearing a uniform. Much of history has been influenced by the murders of key figures, wouldn't you say? The assassins themselves are inconsequential people, mostly just men with a lifetime of violence, it's all about those who point them forward.
