Current I love those times when you've got a few really good, high-potential stories in the making and all you wanna do is write. It's like all my stars have aligned.

I also feel like the idea that there is now a hypothesised generational divide between people who used to 'RP' on IM and people who write good content on forums is pathetic. Why start this crap?

You could also have long-form stories over text, however complaining about long-form, detailed posts (as this began as), seems both ludicrous and worthy of IM.

Sometime it's less about writing some shitty slice-of-life RP in IM, and more about creating a coherent and valued story among like-minded people. Something you'd need an actual platform for.

I always forget how quiet it is here in the British mornings. Timezones are not our friend.

First we had Kavinsky, then we had Chromatics, and now we have Perturbator. What is this, Synthwave 101? Love the taste though guys. Expecting some Miami Nights or Anoraak next or else I'll be thoroughly disappointed.

A bit of both. Everything is technically still conceptual, but I'll try to divide what's realistic and exaggerated for now.

REALISTIC
• Characters can and will die. As a result, I recommend you play two characters; One you're trying to keep alive, and one that might turn out to serve as plot-fodder and die because they're too gold, ponyboy pure or something like that.

• Drugs and alcohol are totally a thing. If you want to play a drunk or junkie, be my guest.

• The psyches of characters and their developing relationships will be an important feature!

• The RP will be Dark and Gritty®, but not realistically dark. Even though it's the 80's, nobody's getting shot or dying of AIDS, somehow.

EXAGGERATED
• Characters wear bright colors and silly masks that would, in the real world, impede their vision and get stuffy pretty quick. Epic choreographed street brawls, unusual improvised weapons, etc.

Tasteful Ultraviolence. In other words, anything can happen as long as it's interesting to read, so don't just go ripping insides out of store clerks to prove you're the toughest guy. The really scary characters will be the ones that don't go chainsawing every Tom, Dick, and Harry

• No Guns. Sounds weird, but guns are just somehow cheating, so if there's a gun, it's a big deal. You know those scenes in movies where a hunter shoots a deer or something and the whole forest goes silent and all the chipmunks perk their ears in terror? Like that, but chipmunk masks instead.

Man, you're one of the few GM's that have actually cracked me up before. Love this so far, character is very nearly finished, I'll PM him to you. I'll start work on another tomorrow (so much shit to do!).
Sounds fun and interesting, but I'm still trying to figure out the tone of this RP. Is it going to be largely exaggerated or grounded in reality?

Good question. Seeing as this boils down to two (of my very favourite) sources of gang-related pop culture, are we going for the surrealist cinematic style of Hotline Miami (which I would categorise the Warriors in too), or the grounded, raw, turbulent drama of Drive? I'll work on a CS nonetheless.
Like an escalating gang war type scenario? Because I'd really like to focus on the ultraviolence you mentioned above, especially in this surreal gang scenario you've offered me. Man you've got me pumped for this

Lel. Wanna bet money on them drinking any type of hard cider or lemonade in lieu of an actual beer?

'Hard cider'.

"Gosh darn it guys, my sippy cup juice is really strong today!"

Basically all of the dudes in that fuckin' chat.
As soon as I saw that little music note I knew it would be a Kavinsky song. Very interested, really looking forward to this.

1. No powers, what's the point in having them in a retro gang story? I vote no powers.

2. I think a story that encompasses all of them would be great, as there will be a lot of gangs with a lot of conflicts.

3. Members of different gangs, and I wouldn't think they'd have to leaders, some people don't enjoy that and may want to be just a foot soldier or a hitman or something. I think it would be very interesting to have a story focusing solely on the perspectives of the gangs.

Just my thoughts on all these.
Bump.
I'd like to register my interest too, and I'll start working on a CS ASAP if there's no issue with that.
