Lotsa stuff going on for me too, recently. I'll try to get a post up in the next day or two.

Angus nearly fell off of his narrow bunk when the Battlemaster yelled in through the door. He sat up quickly and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. He had not rested well the night before, since he wasn't used to the cramped, uncomfortable bed. The other recruits were stumbling around, slipping on their trousers and tunics while trying to simultaneously make their beds. Angus joined them in the complicated effort, then followed the group out of the door.
"Well, good morning to you, too," said the tall youngster to the Battlemaster, passing by on his way through the door. "I hope you slept well. What is on the agenda for today?"
The title of this thread is oddly cheerful for someone with a name like Despair.

Anyway, welcome to the guild! It's always nice to meet new people.
Whew, text wall is finished. Science is fun, especially when you get to make it up.
A buzzer sounded, signaling the end of the cooling chamber's cycle, and Yelgir looked up from his workbench. As he walked over to the cooling chamber, he had to put his hands into his pockets to keep from rubbing them in anticipation. If it worked correctly, the TnT would greatly increase Dark Abyss' fighting chance. Not having to aim down the sights would allow soldiers to stay in cover while firing, and also make it easier to shoot while moving quickly.
He opened the door, and pulled out the small device. It was shaped somewhat like a laser sight, but with the end closer to the shooter tapering to a flat rectangle. Yelgir clipped it onto a rifle he had placed beside the workbench, then lifted the weapon in his arms. Pressing a button on the side of the TnT, he established a connection between himself and the device. An image of the wall sprang into his mind, and Yelgir was momentarily disoriented as this third eye appeared. It moved independently of his other eyes as he shifted the weapon, and a red dot marked the location that would be shot if he pulled the trigger. Modern "smart" weaponry could transfer data into the TnT, and detect variables such as wind speed, projectile weight, and gravity for the current environment, compressing years of training into a dot that showed exactly where the bullet would hit.
Yelgir cycled through the different controls for the device: zoom, night vision, infrared, even an ultrasound function that allowed limited vision through solid objects. It appeared to be working well. The night vision was a little screwy, flooding his mental eye with unnecessary brightness. He would have to work on that, or turning on night vision mode would ruin a soldier's actual night vision. The small android pointed the weapon behind him at the the far wall, closed his eyes, and read in perfect detail the instruction label for the access panel.
There was one thing left to do, besides fix the night vision glitch, and that was to figure out a way for a non-android soldier to use it. The current plan was to have an overlay on the helmet or an eyepiece, but he was trying to decide on a way to use the TnT's controls. He had thought about putting buttons on the device, but then the size would have to be increased, and the soldier would have to move one of their hands from it's proper position on the weapon to change view modes. Another plan would be to have voice commands, but that would betray their position, as well as the possibility for confused signals if two people had near-identical voices.
He paused in his thinking, and raised a free hand to his ear, an involuntary motion that displayed a new idea. One of the humans on the ship, a fellow named Jason, had a suit of body-armor that reacted to his thoughts, springing into position by mental command. If Yelgir could figure out how that worked, he might be able to replicate it with the TnT.

I'm thinking of making a Lawmaster or Scribemaster.

Angus replied to Gilfrod's offer by extending his hand in acceptance. "I'd be honored to join Battleschool," said the tall lad. "I'll warn you now, there is a lot of room for improvement, but I'm willing to try my hardest to do well." He went over to stand behind and slightly to the left of the Battlemaster, and waited for the rest of the prospective apprentices to make a choice.

Erm, insert filler post here?

There really isn't a lot for Angus to do right now. I could have him study the details of the great hall, but I doubt it will help much with the story.
Are we going to start anything? Or just do random social posts for the forseeable future?
Yelgir was in his cabin, trying to relax after the mission. It was technically a success. Jason's team had managed to board and destroy the enemy ship, as well as free one of the captured scientists, but the destruction of the Earth threw everything out of proportion. Yelgir knew that there was nothing the Dark Abyss fleet could have done to prevent it, even if they had known about the Xien Coalition's new weapon. The crew-members had dubbed this new weapon the Ragnarok Device, after Norse Mythology's tale of a battle that ends the world.
The small android moved these thoughts to the back of his mind and stood up. The Fleet Commanders were working on a new plan, so Yelgir wouldn't be needed for a while yet. In the mean time, he had a project that needed some work. He approached the back wall of his cabin, and with a spoken command, the top half folded down to create a workbench. A rack of tools was revealed, as well as a large datascreen covered in blueprints and models. Magnetic clamps on what was now the surface of the workbench released, and the project was presented. The Targeting and Transmission device, or TnT, is attached to the top of a weapon, similar to a scope or laser sight. However, instead of looking down the barrel, TnT transmitted the targeting information directly to the operator, displaying the weapon's target in an eyepiece or helmet. It currently only worked for androids, but Yelgir was also working on a way for human operators to control the zoom and method of vision on the TnT.
