Connor's eyes crept open up into the sky. It was a beautiful day out with the summer just seeping in. He was in the middle of a fairly large meadow, with a forest surrounding him. He heard something nearby and quickly looked down. It was another person just waking up, and then another, and another. There were lots of others waking up now, coming to the same realization he had then asking the same questions. Where were they? Why were they here?
He remembered what happened last night. The hunters he was with had been finally returning after engaging with a vampire nest. Rand had left the base to go get some drinks at a bar and left Connor alone. Connor hadn't been too worried about it and was keeping track of the group's GPS on the computer when...what happened? He remembered a nauseous feeling in his head, then something hard. Had someone sneaked up from behind that easily?
Connor looked over at everyone, seeing if he recognized anyone. For a long time he saw no one, when he suddenly saw his trainer Rand. Connor breathed a sigh of relief and ran over to him.
Connor noticed that Rand had the same look as he did as he ran over. Rand stayed sitting down, staring at his surroundings. When Connor came up next to Rand, he continued staring out.
“Rand?” Connor asked, unsure of what Rand would say.
“Can I safely guess that I didn’t get drunk last night?” Rand asked, still staring outward. “And that you were also knocked unconscious to wake up here?”
Connor gave a slight nod. “Yes but…”
Rand stared over at Connor, a small bit of fear in his eyes. “No phone either? No weapons at all?”
The new hunter checked his pockets, seeing that Rand’s guesses were right. “I…”
Rand slowly got up and looked over at the others. “I have a very bad feeling, and I have no idea what I should do.”
The Manager approached his office and entered inside. The two guards snapped to attention as he came in, then went back to ease. The Manager smiled and strode over to his desk, sitting down and reclining back.
Today was going to be quite an interesting day. It was the day of their annual human hunting that they had been hosting for quite some time now. It was one of the most popular events there and for a very good reason so. Who else could keep weaponless humans ensnared for some happy guests than himself? The Manager smiled, picking up his microphone.
The supernatural guests who had signed up to infiltrate as fellow humans should already be there, and the humans themselves starting to wake up. In about an hour the Manager would officially start the hunting, opening the secret doors for the supernatural to emerge and the infiltrators to reveal themselves if they chose to.
“Hello everyone good morning!” The Manager said on his mic. “As you all know we are beginning our annual hunt! We have some very nice picks for you today, including several hunters that I know several of you would love as a trophy! Now as a reminder of the rules, no attacking a fellow supernatural, no attacks on the dome, and, of course, no true assistance to the humans! The humans are currently waking up as you can see from our live camera feed and the doors will be unlocked in an hour! Good luck!”
Nixon stood by one of the exit doors, rocking his head back and forth. It had been quite some time since he had participated in a hunting event, in fact the last time was a very vague memory. He had finally gotten off the trafficking job from the past three years and got his big break back to the resort. Now he would get to enjoy the humans he had a part in sending here!
Voices echoed in his head, screaming voices, loud voices, crying voices. Were some of those voices his? He couldn’t tell anymore, and had stopped a while ago. Those voices had been ringing in him for years. Was it years? Or just three? He couldn’t remember. Really all he had to focus on was the hunt. It’d be nice to get a good girl this year, one who didn’t break so quickly as the others did. So many...uh…test subjects turned to fodder over his work years, completely useless.
Nixon perked up as he heard the Manager begin to speak on the intercom and the live feed show up on the TV. Nixon gave a large grin. Just an hour, then he’d have some fun...
