Name: Hokkan
Nicknames: Swordfish, Lukewarm, Firewater
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Bending skills or fighting style: Upper Intermediate Waterbender
Weapons/Instruments/Armor: Fishing pole & lures, camping pack, and a water jug.
Personality: Thick-skinned and independent by nature, Hokkan exudes a playful demeanor that is both charismatic and charming. He is a fearless extrovert in most social settings, willing to strike up a conversation with random strangers, no matter the situation. Hokkan's laidback and carefree attitude is often mistaken for carelessness, vastly overshadowing his sharpened intellect, which is rarely acknowledged outside of the sport of Pro-bending or Water Rumble Tournaments.
History: Hokkan was groomed to inherit the family business at a young age. As soon as he could walk on his own, the seasoned tribesmen of his family rigorously trained him in the art of a unique waterbending style, one that specifically catered to their roles as fishermen. This technique involved subtle movements to sway and shift waters to redirect fish, followed by abrupt, almost lightning fast reflexes to lure, trap, and snatch them out from the sea and into their boats.
The wild tempest of the southern ocean made for a steep learning curve for this particular kind of style, but young Hokkan was determined to make his tribe proud. When he finally proved his worth, the tribe granted Hokkan a spot on one of their fishing boats, where most of his teenage years were spent sailing the southern hemisphere and beyond.
Hokkan is relatively close-lipped about how he ended up in Wu Xing as a Pro-bender six years ago, seldom acknowledging his past beyond fishing tales of his grandest triumphs over the rarest and biggest oddities of the sea. He spent several years Pro-bending under a relatively unknown team called The Mad Piranhas, winning several interim matches, but never had enough funding to enter the more prestigious Pro-bending tournaments. In an attempt to raise money for his team, Hokkan sought out an underground Waterbending Tournament held across several cavern coves on the western coastline. This combative sport had piqued a new level of interest in Hokkan, to the point where he abandoned all hopes of becoming a Pro-bending champion to pursue more selfish gains of fame and fortune.
Despite his sudden change of heart, Hokkan still frequents the Pro-bending scene, offering his services as a trainer at a local gym.
Other:
As if to further distance himself from his Southern Water Tribe roots, Hokkan has tamed, and befriended an exotic Tiger Horse named, Rokillo, a rare animal breed that was once a historical symbol of the Fire Nation. Not much is known about how this companionship came to fruition. All that is known is that the two are near inseparable, despite their clashing personalities.
