Just out of the island city of Alto Mare, Mark is ready to defeat the famed Indigo League. Full of energy, Mark loves exploration, be it on his own, with friends (those that he has), with pokémon, on land, or on water, and maybe even in the air, though he hasn't had that chance yet. If there's somewhere to discover, then Mark is ready to discover it! Though he may look tough and reserved, once people get to know Mark, they'll find his inner self shine out, ready to have adventures with his friends and all of their pokémon, and maybe have a swim at the same time! Mark loves all things athletic, most of all swimming, having grown up in a city literally filled with water. Now that he's a pokémon trainer, Mark is ready to explore the Kanto region, and hopefully get some badges on the way!

Mark was born to Silver Conference winner-turned shopkeeper James, and teacher Gloria. James's older brother, Zach, si two years older than him, whilst his younger sister, Amy, is three years younger than him. Growing up, Mark spent a lot of time in his father's shop, and spent most of his free time in the canals of Alto Mare, swimming with his father's pokémon and making friends with the wild pokémon of Alto Mare. This gave Mark his love of swimming and fondness of water pokémon, and also allowed him to stay in shape, helped extensively by goign to the gym as a teenager. As he got older, Mark also gained a liking of battling pokémon, mostly using his father's pokémon, or the few pokémon his mother had. He also entered the Tour de Alto Mare a couple of times, but never ranked very highly. After a few years of battling with his father's pokémon, Mark realised that he wanted to battle with his own pokémon, that he had caught, and that weren't found all over Alto Mare. It was then he decided that he would attempt to join the OI Trainer Project, and explore the Kanto region, and get to the top of the Indigo Plateau Conference, just like his father did at the Silver Conference.
Owing to his father's status of winning the Silver Conference, battles were a regular in Mark's life. This meant that Mark was able to see many battles in his life. Sometimes his father would train him, but, unsurprisingly, Mark lost most of the battles. However, these still proved to be good experience, and Mark is considered an average trainer when compared to the rest of Alto Mare, and he is quite good with water and dark type pokémon.
