Wings spread and they lifted into the air, flying along side a dragon that was nearly the inverted opposite of a nightfury. Hiccup knew what she was but still marveled at the similarities between them- the more he thought about it the more he found himself wondering if genetics were really a problem here. Somewhere down the line they had been the same. That was his understanding, that their ancestors had the same scales. He knew they would never probably find another nightfury but this was a close second, wasn’t it? He was knew Toothless could be happy with this. Now that they were older… maybe it would make a difference. Maybe Toothless wouldn’t be the only dragon left behind during ’nesting season’ this time.
Hiccup surveyed the surroundings, catching sight of several dragons as they passed over. “Almost feels there should be a bewilder beast within that lake.” As soon as he caught sight of the water he was reminded of the lands in which he was reunited with his mother. Then they touched down in reality- he slung himself off Toothless’ back and looked around as they walked in, mindlessly rubbing his fingers at the nightfury’s scales. There wasn’t much to compliment them upon with a setup so simple but it must have just meant that they didn’t spend a lot of time in the cave. There was actually nothing wrong with that with a whole island of dragons to explore.
Toothless slunk down, sinking to the floor before he had even stopped walking and Hiccup was left scratching empty air as his fingers slipped off. He looked over at the dragon who hadn’t really acknowledged the mention of fish beyond putting his head down. “Tired bud?” Hiccup eased back against Toothless’ side, stretching his legs out and resting his head into him. He saw that the girl had already seemingly dozed off. “Been a long couple weeks with everything… a break well deserved.” Toothless rumbled in response but mostly wanted him to be quiet so he could sleep. Hiccup did settle, abandoning speech for sleep.
