It was a pretty little trinket or perhaps it was better said it had been at one time- years spent skimming down the river bed had scratched up the gem and the chain had none of that polished shine it must have once possessed. Maybe no one had dropped it recently after all? He turned it over in his hand and jerked as a voice popped up out of no where, tripping backwards and falling into the mud. He swore no one was here a moment ago- no one but him and the whispering wind. The girl could have only have sprouted out of the ground, there was really no other explanation for it but he looked around for one anyways. “N-n-no!” He stuttered frantically and sprung back to his feet. “I just slid down from the road. I didn’t even know anyone was in the river.”
Had she been in the river? He looked to the angry river as rain began to pelt it once more. “What were you doing in the river? Are you okay?!” And holy shit was that blood on her dress? A deep maroon that grew no thinner despite the water coming down- it did not seem as if the rain even touched her. He swallowed hard and edged backwards towards the slope.
