Ren started to panic when the girl with a dagger decided to walk towards him. Back in the original world, a girl would only walk towards Ren to either ask for direction or to make fun of how big of a nerd he is. He knew things could be different this time, but Ren's not simply trained to deal with this kind of things.
Although to his surprise, she turns out to be quite friendly. Ren felt his face flush when the girl smiled brightly at him and offered a hand. Ren smiled back reluctantly. "I-I'm glad to hear it."
The girl started to ask Ren about stats. "Can't she access her stats like I do?" Thinking back how the voice inside his head told him about acquiring an Appraisal Skill, Ren surmised that each kid gained different skills. "So that's how it is then? It's like those RPG games where each character grows uniquely, gaining different skills and stats depending on which path they take." Ren wondered what sort of skills the other kids have gained, "Ah! That's right, I could probably use Appraisal skill on humans too."
"Appraisal skill activated!"
Just like the last time, an almost translucent panel appeared beside the girl with a dagger. And it reads:
Skills • Undetermined - level up Appraisal Skill to unlock section.
Description • A girl revived from another world
"Hmm, this one looks a little rough compared to when I used it to myself and monsters. The name even says Girl From Another World. It seems like I need to level up my Appraisal Skill to access specific information." Ren thought, "Level-up, huh? If this world follows the same mechanics of a regular RPG, this would mean that I need to gain some kind of experience for it level up. But ho—"
His thoughts were suddenly interrupted by a terrible howl. If fear took form, it would be this huge monstrosity in front of them. It looked similar to it's wolf-kin except it stands two or three times bigger and looked more dangerous. It holds one bloody axe on each hand that it swings with such ferocity, it sends strong pressure of unseen force throughout the field. Ren heard someone say "Kobold Lord" amongst the remaining Knights.
"A boss level monster just appeared?!" Ren thought ridiculously.
"Hey you! Aim at the Kobold Lord! If we can kill their leader, these beasts may retreat." Called the first girl as she darts pass through Ren and Erika. Soon enough, the others decided to join in too.
"We got an interesting bunch with us huh? Cover us. And the kid." Erika motioned towards the little kid not too far from them. When Ren looked back, Erika's gone.
Ren gripped the bow in his hands tightly. As scared as he is right now, Ren wanted to be of use to everyone. For some reason, seeing the other kids eagerly joining in the fight inspired Ren, and made him braver even. "That's it, I'll help too!" Ren thought resolutely.
With this, Ren raised his bow, loaded 2 arrows and pulled. He aimed his shot towards the Kobold Lord's right flank. He took a slow deep breath, and then, with great certainty, let go of the arrows.
It shot right through multiple Kobold Underlings until it connected to its intended target. Blood splattered everywhere as the dismembered limb sailed through the air due to the force of impact. The Kobold Lord growled in raged at this and started to swing his remaining axe violently in all direction.
The remaining Knights all cheered at this new development, raising their morale somewhat. However, this too, was short lived as the Kobold Lord suddenly stopped in the middle of its rampage, its stubbed arm began to shudder uncontrollably, then slowly, a new arm started to grow in place of the lost one.
"Regeneration?" Ren thought.
The Kobold Lord retrieved its other axe from its dismembered arm and then started to attack everyone on sight.
"This is bad." He can sense the remaining Knights' exhaustion, and although the other kids can still fight, they too would eventually run out of gas. "We can't let this fight drags on for too long. We need to somehow deal damage greater than it can regenerate."
"We need to attack it all at once!" Ren shouted at the others while sending 2 shots of arrows to get incoming Kobold Underlings, "I'll create an opening!"
Ren loaded an arrow to his bow and then pulled at the string as hard as he can. He started to aim the arrow towards the Kobold Lord's feet. "Die, you bastard."
The arrow connected with a loud crack. It pierced through the Kobold Lord's left ankle and through the ground pinning the Boss's movement. "NOW!!" Ren shouted. He began to shoot arrow after arrow towards the Boss monster, not letting up even for a second.
Yeah, except those pretty straightforward ones like Greater Item Box since it's already unlimited in the first place. Also the last 3 cheat skills Physical Augmentation, Magic Insurgence and Greater Cunning since they are a constant passive ability.
Oh, Travesty, at level 1, how 'skilled' are people in their weapon proficiencies anyhow? And conversely, what's the max level for these profiency skills? Presumably, with All Weapon Mastery, I won't actually be gaining any weapon profiency skills? Or do they stack on top of each other?
Yes, since All Weapon Mastery is a collective proficiency of all weapon types in this world. So technically, Ying Yue have already acquired all of the available weapon proficiency skills there is. Also, the level of her proficiency skills should be at the same level as her All Weapon Mastery skill. So if A.W.M. gained a level, so as Bow Mastery, Dagger Mastery, Spear Mastery and so on.
At level 1 they'll be able to equip the specific weapon of that proficiency. Normally, a person without a specific weapon mastery skill would suffer a penalty when equipping a weapon, say, their stamina will be drained continuously, or holding the weapon would feel uncomfortable or too heavy. Although constant training with that weapon can lead to acquiring it's proficiency skill eventually.
Also, level in proficiency skills is just a gauge on how well they use that weapon, it also affects learning sub-skills specific for that weapon mastery, the more complex the sub-skill is the higher the proficiency level required to learn it. I dont have specifics on this one tbh, like how skilled should they be at what level or on what level should they learn this skill, I'll leave that to your judgement. I assume the higher the level the stronger they are.
Let's have it capped at Level 100. This goes for all skills.
EDIT: Will be making a list of all weapon types later for reference.
Updated Kobold Lord stats in the character's tab, it's still WIP though. Will be updating that one post from now on every time we encounter a monster for everyone's reference.
@Polaris North lol Let's just stick with whatever is left of the carcass for now. You can have fast eating and bottomless stomach as additional perk of Gluttony. Anyways, eventually she'll develop a skill that will make eating/consuming monsters more convenient. I'm thinking somewhere between absorbing through touch or a monster based skill that will allow her to change form (ex. turn into a slime and absord the whole thing). If you can think of a better a way though, feel free to tell.
EDIT: We need a huge blender then, big enough to fit a Kobold Lord in it.
And when she consumes, it would give her an alert of the stats increase?
Yes, ideally, that should be the case.
Brings up the bigger question, yeah. How much of a monster's body does Erika need to consume to get the whole stats? Are hearts and brains better than, say, testicles or intestines?
But also gotta be hella unhinged to start collecting monster corpses on the go lmao.
I'm assuming it would be everything, or whatever is left of it after dismantling.
As a reference: In Bofuri, Maple's devour skill allows her to practically eat anything. She can bite on monsters like normal food (they also taste like normal food, although some may taste bad), then work her way up until a point where the skill deems she ate enough.
I wonder how Erika will get to activate the Gluttony skill
Or is the voice in their head going to go - Glutton skill acquired, consume?
That should work. Or if you want, Ren can initiate to gather all monster corpses for future use. We can put them all in @Duoya's Greater Item Box. Then Ren can cook it for Erika later.
