Hm... Can I just voice my concern with that power for a bit? I get how it works in theory, but I'll get pretty meta here and say "What if you were stopped by the bad guy's guards." Instead of actually using his wit, Chad could simply put on a smile, says he's an ally and they'd let him through. Or get free meals.
Short story: He's be way too influential for no trade off. Next concern: What if we'd be attacked by something as soon as the RP starts? He'd have no way to defend himself. To take another example, Kirrian could hear it coming and avoid it. Johnny has a familiar to drive it off. Etc. We all have something to keep us safe, but if you were attacked you'd be screwed.
Also, one more thing. The rapier and armor? Unfair and kind of against the theme. Mementos are supposed to be small, worthless to the outside and good for you. If you start off with armor and a blade that would be VERY valuable, as it can be used to fight. The watch is fine because, who would care about something like that? But the rapier and set of metal scrap no, because nobody should start with it. Otherwise I'd bring a rocket launcher with me.
He could defend himself pretty easily. He's a fencer, good at sword play. That's how'd he defend himself. Also, of course there would be limits to his power. Like the people can't be hostile and trying to cause harm. It's more of a non combat type thing. The item thing is something I will need to change. The armor and rapier I can get later.
