Personality: Someone of a stern and unyielding manner of personality, Yari is not stubborn persay, but rather persistent in that which she believes. Whether this is something that carries on from her real life experiences or not, only those that knew her outside the game could say. An upfront and honest person, she cares not for petty games of politics or the machinations in the dark. In the time it takes to make all those traps that fall apart at first contact, she would rather be forging herself further and further, closer to her own ideal.

In a less kind way of phrasing it, she is a musclebrained idiot. Now, that is a bit of an exaggeration of course. It's not that she is lacking in intelligence, it is that rather than scheming and planning for a situation to only save minor gains, she believes that the simpler solution is often the better one. He who has the hardest fist is often the most correct.

Of course if the situation demands for it, she is perfectly willing and able to create strategy and plans in order to save herself or her allies from catastrophic loss. But hey, if she can make up for that lack of strategy with her own ability, that would probably be better.

Background: To say it in the simplest terms, an office lady. She worked long and thankless days to get her paycheck, only to see it burned off every month to pay for the minimum living necessities (and beers for after work. Nothing like it after a hard day after all.) In a more complex manner of explanation, she was a highschool and university graduate wide eyed and ready for the real world! That is to say, she was until the reality of well. . . reality. . . hit her.

The long days were fine at first, but over time, day after day. Year after year, they dragged on and on. Eventually, they started to drain on her. Her spark started to go out, and she went through every day like a zombie.

That is, until one of her friendly coworkers recommended she try this new mmo that had come out recently. Yari was not a gamer, so she went in skeptical to say the least. From the moment she logged in however, she was hooked. New worlds. Exciting adventures. There was really no way that she could not get sucked in. It rekindled her spark. Her zest for life. In fact, she got so absorbed into her gaming, that she started to neglect other aspects of her life.

Of course, she never let her work slip. That was the only thing that was paying for the other aspects of her shut in lifestyle of course. But other than going to work, and occasionally going out for the mandatory drink with her coworkers after the work day had ended, she would stop by the convenience store, buy some beers and snacks, and game. The weekends were the best. Not having to go into work the next day left her free to game deep into the night. It was amazing. In fact, before the SAO was teased to the public, she was a relatively high ranking player in the previous MMO. She was dedicated to the grind. It didn't bother her to grind out skill proficiencies or experience or quests for some reason. You would think that it would, given that it was not all that different from the grind of work day after day, but to her, it was a completely different animal. This other world kept her hooked from start to finish.

Then, SAO was released. Of course she was one of the chosen few who managed to get their hands on the Nerv Gear and a copy of the game. There simply was no way that she would let it pass by. In fact, she had already chosen the path she was planning on traveling in the game, and researched any available alternatives that might fit her better. Warriors are important, but crafting personnel are important as well. All the more if she can be both. She would have the top guilds grasping at her coattails. Of course, she wouldn't join any that had some annoying ulterior motive. She just wanted to join the strongest warriors to climb this fantastical new world.

Darien Reid

Darien opened his eyes, his mind spinning with the words that had been spoken just moments prior. It was insane. If he hadn't personally experienced it, he would never believe that it was even possible.

At first when he had awoken, he remained silent and still. He assumed that while he was asleep, someone had kidnapped him. Of course now he knew that honestly something similar was indeed the case, but that is beside the point. He had chosen to observe the situation, taking in the appearances and actions of those around him. He needed to know more before he made any decisions, and if it really was the case that they would be killing one another, then he should remain vigilant. They likely wouldn't have paid much attention to him not moving. Just giving him a passive glance. But he studied them through barely open eyelids. Inscribing their faces into his mind. They asked their questions. Some more. . . . pertinent than others. This was important. It may be easier to associate with some of them than others.

And so it passed. He awoke once more inside his room. He stood, looking outside his residence at the fringe of the town center, he saw the sky tinted such a strange color. Looks like it was actually real. Well, that is both unfortunate as well as fortunate. To be honest, the chance that he would die. . . .really sucked. But. If it all worked out and he ended up winning, then it would likely result in explosive growth in his plan to control it all. Instead of decades it may take years. . . or even just months. Excellent.

But now was not the time to go fight random battles. Instead, Darien moved around his personal housing complex as it were. Testing and experimenting with his power. If he didn't know exactly how it worked, then he wouldn't know how it would be best used. It was unlikely that the others would all make the same decision that he had, so he would. They would fight, and he would use that.

And so he waited. And he thought. And he planned.

Naraka

With the creaking of an opening door, Darien was drawn back to reality from a brief moment of daydreaming. He was seated in a corner office, as was his right as the owner of the company that he was seated in. With a cold look in his eyes, he glanced at the man that had dared to interrupt his moment of rest. A middle aged man in a form fitting black suit. An employee that he had brought with him specifically as a bodyguard and secretary of sorts. He had better had a reason.

"What is it?"

His words were sharp and curt, allowing for no hesitation or excuses to be given.

"Sir. The owners of our intended acquisition have fallen seriously ill and had to postpone your meeting. It seems as though we will be stuck here for a short while."

How annoying. Well, there was nothing for it. This probably had its own opportunities as well.

"Fine. Send them a small gift and wish for them to get well in the future. They will be our employees in the future after all."

There was nothing wrong with using this time to expand his influence around the town so that everything would be properly prepared for the time he purchased it all.

With a nod, the suited man departed to complete the tasks given to him. As the door closed, Darien leaned back in his chair and looked out his window at the town that would be his eventually. Hmmm. His schedule was clear for the day now.

With a sigh, he stood and left to exercise. Might as well spend the time here improving his prospects for the future. He would train and expand his circle of contacts in the town while he waited for the business meeting he had previously scheduled to get back on track. One step at a time.

Personality: Charming and professional would be the first few words that would come to mind when most people interact with Darien the first time. And they would be right to feel that way, as it was intentional that they were made to think that. On the inside however, Darien is far more cold and cruel than he would appear. The kind of man that would help you up out of the dirt, but only if there was something in it for him. Just as likely to step over you as help you up.

Darien is a man that thinks about profit over everything. If something isn’t likely to bring benefit to him, then he is just as likely to ignore it. The most extreme aspect of his personality however is his ruthlessness to get things done once he has decided to complete them. If it is worth the risk and the profit is just right, Darien will perfectly willingly see the world burn.

That said, it is often much easier to accomplish his goals if the people around him are willing to assist, so he prefers to take the soft approach and use that “charming and professional” persona that he usually puts on.

History: Darien was born the child of two talented financial moguls. Tyrants who had their hands in all of the cookie jars throughout The United Kingdom. Many companies in that part of the world were either owned by his parents, or were run by someone under their thumb.

From a young age, Darien was groomed to be the successor of their massive empire. As such, he was given the finest education and grooming throughout all of his childhood. He was punished harshly for not being exceptional at anything that he tried. Even if he wasn’t a natural at something, he would become and expert in time, regardless of whether he wanted to or not.

Luckily for his parents, their tendencies happened to rub off of their child in a major way. He consumed whatever they put in front of him. Knowledge, training, skills. Anything that would make him better. He studied until his head throbbed. He trained in self defense for the off chance that something happened to his bodyguards. He learned any personal skill that would help him make a lasting impression with someone. Psychology, the violin, persuasion, coercion, gambling, singing, dancing, anything that his parents deemed might be useful to him in his adult life.

His first chance to prove himself was presented when he was 17 years old. His parents made him the lead in a merger deal with a minor company. He was nervous, expecting to see a giant of a man sitting across from him, just waiting to tear down his little confidence. What happened however was an elderly woman and he equally old husband were his “opponents”. They crumbled under his lightest of veiled threats and their small family business was consumed under his family’s umbrella. It was. . . . . a rush. It was easy, but it gave Darien a high like he had never felt before. That moment cemented inside him, his life goal. He would own it all. Everything would belong to him.

For a few years after that, he attended life in high society as a youth would. He had debuted. He built connections and cemented his position in the minds of all of his peers. He made sure that they all realized that he was outstanding.

When he was 22, he made his move and ousted his parents from their positions of leadership in their conglomerate. It was all his now. They hadn’t moved fast enough or far enough.

His parents were not angry or disappointed. Instead, they were proud. The monster they had groomed was grown and ready to be unleashed into the world. As such, they stepped down willingly and took a bystander role in their own organization.

And that is what brings us to Riversfield. Darien arrived merely a week or so prior to our current time to personally negotiate a large acquisition of a number of different industries in the area. He was here to continue spreading his name across the world.

Skills:

Self Defense Skills: While he does not know any “martial arts” persay, Darien was trained from a young age to be able to defend himself from anything that might bring him harm. Of course the best experts that his family could find were his teachers, and drilled training into him until he was fit, strong, flexible and coordinated enough to “take all comers”. Not enough to defeat a professional fighter, but more than enough to handle any “layman”.

Other: Darien has already established a foothold in town. He owns a couple of small chains and corporations already. He came with his bodyguards and advisers.

In short, an otaku of sorts. In less short, a weapon otaku. Disinterested in most of the little things in life, Elra only really shows her excitement when interacting with some new, or extremely old form of weaponry. Of course, she shows interest in the things alive, but she is also the sort to forget to eat and sleep when absorbed in learning about something new and interesting.

On that line, she has a fascination with learning. Anything that can improve her craft or even potentially be useful in the future. Some would call it on obsession, but she just calls it interest. And of course, without something to interest you, what purpose is there in living really?

Biography: Elra was born the daughter of a metalworker in modern America. Her father worked in a factory that manufactured and machined parts for weapons of varying sizes and utilities. He didn't have this job because he absolutely needed the money, but rather because working with metals and weapons was his passion. A passion that he easily passed down to his daughter.

Elra was very young when she started to develop an interest in weaponry. It was fascinating to her to take machined items apart and discover exactly how they functioned. What minutia and finite measurements were required to make something function the way that it did. Her father definitely did nothing to stunt this desire to learn, and enabled it throughout her growth into adulthood. He bought her model guns and and weapons from varying time frames. Muskets, semi-automatic rifles, pistols. Anything that she wanted to learn about.

But her desire to learn went past that. More than just guns. Weapons of the past. Swords. Bows. Spears. Anything. Why were they made the way that they were. What was the optimal balancing or such weapons. How were the arrows made to be so aerodynamic. How could it pierce armor most efficiently. She got herself apprenticed to a modern day blacksmith. Someone that mostly made showpieces, or historically accurate weapons for enthusiasts. This not only gave her a chance to test her various theories on the optimal way to craft these weapons, whether it be material, shaping, temperature during creation and the like, it also gave her the chance to test them. She made armors that would be tested against those same weapons she made. While this may not have made her an expert in any of these weapons, she did spend a fair amount of time on the proper ways to use them. They couldn't be tested properly with her randomly swinging now could they. This all gave her a strong body and an iron resolve. If this were the past, she would be a prodigal blacksmith. Unfortunately, her talents were of little use in the modern era.

Regardless, she would never have the chance to try and carve out her proper place in the world. How ironic that she would be killed by her own passion. She was testing the strength of a new combination of metals on a practice dummy. The metals did not hold together as she had hoped, causing the blade to splinter and fracture. One of these sharp splinters pierced her heart before she could cover her vitals, ending her life almost instantly.

Her story was not over though when she appeared before the goddess. Of course she took the offer. What better place to test weapons of her own creation than against monsters and demons! Adding in potential magic additions to these weapons, the potential was endless.

Skills: Basic weaponry technique: Elra is at least knowledgeable about most all forms of weapons. From swords, to spears to bows, she at the very least knows how to use the weapons and not kill herself while using them. . . . except for that one time. That one doesn't count. Regardless, this knowledge comes from years of study about not only techniques, but also endless research about the most efficient ways to use said weapons.

Magic Inscription: The ability to inscribe runes into the spiritual core of a weapon to create an "artifact" or a "magic weapon". The different runes that she magically inscribes cause a variety of effects dependent on the runes used, materials and physical shape of the weapon or artifact etc.

Studious Mind: Not an ability per say, just a personal trait. Elra has a very strong memory, easily imprinting the information required for her forging. The percentages of metals contained in her crafted weaponry as well as forging techniques, runes and what rare materials combine with one another to create artifacts with varieties of traits.

Gift of God- Magic Blacksmith: With a thorough understanding of the structure of something, Elra can magically form a construct of that item. This construct is temporary, lasting usually a short while before dissipating back into magic.
