"Well, for starters, the only reason I got in here was because of this, but I guess I'm out here because...well its really the only school for disabled kids to figure things out...I suppose that's what I'm doing right now isn't it? Figuring things out?"
"It's not only to help figure things out," Ami interjected. Her almost-tone was still friendly, though. "That too, yeah, but Yamaku will also help students learn to overcome whatever's in their way." Ami's face seemed to go even blanker for a moment as she checked recent memory. Then a little light bulb went off in her head. "My hallmate told me something interesting last year. There was a girl in the art club who graduated from here a couple years ago. She had no arms. She was still the best painter of them all, and her art teacher even helped her set up an art exhibit. To what I hear, she didn't quite follow through, but things like that are what I'm talking about. If you know what you want to do, they'll help you do it here."
Ami was hoping to give that a moment to sink in. It wasn't much of a story, but thinking back on it was always enough to get Ami motivated. But rather than getting a minute to let it sink in, Kyle spoke up again.
"That's not all you have for food is it? I know bread is kind of filling, but you're going to shrivel up if you eat just that."
"I'm mostly to blame for my small lunch. As you'd know, I was running late for class this morning, and was in a rush to make it on time before I got a little lost."
"Here. I know its not much, but its better than just bread and...its not fun...being hungry so...please take it!"
This was kind of a first, even for Ami. More often than not, she was the one giving someone something to add to their lunch, not the opposite. With a nod, Ami took the orange in her hand, with a hearty-as-one-could-expect-from-her "Thank you." She set it next to the bread, almost smiling but as always, not quite smiling. The next thing she did was set the bread down and start peeling the orange. Oranges had more flavor than bread. Even if that made the eating experience a little stranger for her, it was nice to have flavorful things. Once the skin was all peeled, Ami took a bite, took some time to chew, then swallowed. Then she spoke up again. "Would you be uncomfortable if I told you the reason I'm here?"
