Synchronization Overdrive: A school-based supernatural RP with a twist

Kurihashi Keiichi

Keiichi kept looking at the nervous researcher, before hearing someone comment on her hair. The question made the researcher even more nervous, annoying the emotional boy. As he decided to look away from the researcher, Keiichi noticed the researcher decided to change the topic to the process of pairing Receivers and Tuners together, with a less nervous voice. While he indeed wanted to hear that and the researcher being less nervous is a good thing, it annoyed the boy more at the same time, since he didn't want to have the topic changed without any warning. Soon, the researcher notified everyone in the room that the pairings came, with her voice seeming less nervous just like when she was talking about the pairing system.

Soon, a list appeared in Keiichi's vision, with his name listed next to "Kougami Mari", which seemed to be female from the picture. He quickly decided to start moving to find the woman, which took some time. However, it didn't take long to find the woman, which is exactly the woman in the picture. Keiichi shoved some people to reach the woman, softly smiling as he talked.

"Hello, Kougami-San. I am Kurihashi Keiichi. I am your partner if I am right. Nice to meet you." Keiichi slightly blushed while looking at the woman, thinking of her as a good-looking person.

Tatebayashi Eri

Eri briefly looked at the list, noticing some people have their name in their own language, with a smaller, and transliterated versions of their name that above the name, with the languages for the transliteration varying with their partner's mother tongue, at least from what the girl could see. Among the names, there was the slightly blonde-haired girl's name without a transliterated version of it, meaning she was to be paired with a Japanese person.

Looking at the name next to hers, noticing she was paired up with a person called "Akeya Kagura", with a picture of a girl with a long, black hair next to it, indicating her appearance. The slightly blonde-haired girl looked at the crowd of people which started to scramble around the room, with some of them waiting for their partners to come. As Eri decided to start moving, she noticed the person which was exactly like the girl in the picture found the slightly blonde-haired girl first, proceeding to greet the girl with glasses.

"Yes. I'm Tatebayashi Eri. Nice to meet you, too." Eri kept her reply simple and proper, hoping the black-haired girl in front of her is a kind person.

Keiichi arrived at the room he was instructed to head to, looking around and noticing it's a large room, filled with various equipment from a classroom and a laboratory. It looked somewhat odd to the boy, but he was able to think of it as a non-unusual scenery in Akiyama-Kreuz Academy, which is dedicated to training Receivers and Tuners, in addition to various scientific studies. He spent some time looking around, before noticing a door open, with the person that introduced herself as the researcher for pairings coming inside the room, looking nervous just like how she was in the opening ceremony.

"Can't we have a better researcher that isn't nervous in front of people, just like teachers and such should be?" Keiichi thought as he listened to the researcher, the minor frustration clearly appearing on his face.

Eri briefly looked around the room she was in after following the tide, seeing that it's a very large room capable of housing many students, with various consoles on the walls. She saw that there were various students in the room; Some were excited, Some were nervous, and some were calm, just like the white-haired girl, making a poker face and using her skills to the full extent. After a moment, she noticed the person who introduced herself as the researcher for pairings come into the room, before nervously announcing that pairings are necessary and the pairings will be available shortly.

"So who am I being paired up with...? Hope they are kind." Eri thought as she acted like a completely calm person while she actually wasn't.

She could lie that she is a cold person to others, but not to herself. Her mind wanted somebody that is close to her, just like her mother. Yet, she feared someone would take advantage of her just like what the bullies did before.

"Come on, I'm supposed to think less about the old bonds from where I lived, and more about the new relationship I'm supposed to form instead... Besides, the new bond is probably stronger than all the old ones combined and supposed to last longer, since I'm supposed to defeat the threats to the world with my partner from what I heard before..."

Keiichi thought in an attempt to discourage himself from behind distracted by his own thoughts about where he was until the day before yesterday, with a send-off party before leaving the small neighborhood to the Akiyama-Kreuz Academy, the only place where his true potentials can shine.

Just as he thought he shouldn't excessively think about the past, the opening ceremony was nearing its end, the final stints of the somewhat emotionless speech beginning, and the minor frustrations disappearing from him. He was somewhat happy to know it's ending soon. He definitely wanted to leave as soon as he could. However, he was disappointed to hear he needed to stay and wait for a researcher mostly because they are late.

After hearing the clearly female researcher stammering while saying that she is a researcher for pairings, and the new students needed to head to the Room 4B located downstairs. Keiichi was happy to hear he was finally able to leave the main halls, hurrying to the room without running.

"Time to play." Eri thought to herself, attempting to activate a cold aura maintained by being silent and repulsive of others.

She was confident at making and maintaining a poker face unless a surge of emotions strikes her, with his father teaching her to become a good actor, despite the fact she might not want to become a professional actor. She readied for the long stream of words that's necessary to any opening ceremonies, ignoring any students trying to flirt with her. Although some parts of her wanted some romance, other parts of her focused on keeping contacts with other people to minimum to avoid being bullied again.

However, she thought the "Tuner-Reciever" relationship might pair her up with someone that actually understands her just like her mother, instead of ones that only wants to make fun of her. The information she had heard of suggested that it could happen, although she wasn't really sure he would be paired up with a kind person. She made sure she'd keep the aura up where there's no one she can trust, which currently covers most if not all of the Akiyama-Kreuz Academy. Keeping the oath in her mind, she followed the tide of people heading downstairs, making sure she maintained the aura.

He is also an emotional person, with his minor emotions frequently appearing on his face, readable by anyone that bothers to look at his face.

Weapon: A two-handed claymore with the both ends of the guard being a sharp edge and the blade emitting a purple glow. The sword's hardness, sharpness, and brightness vary with the Synch Rate.

Skills: Keiichi spends most of his free time drawing something, although the content can vary depending on the day. For example, it might be an anime-alike painting just a day after he drew an abstract painting. He is also good at sports to some extent.

Brief Backstory: Keiichi was born in a rural part in Japan, being raised in a small community where everyone cares for others around them, especially the more active children, which prefers to play outside instead of playing games in their houses. Keiichi was one of them, forming bonds with others, which would've lasted for a long time if he wasn't a Tuner candidate. Being a candidate meant the community itself would actively encourage him to head to Akiyama-Kreuz Academy since there aren't many Tuners or candidates. He initially disagreed, but with his friends encouraging to head to the Academy, he had to accept and head there, leaving his friends there.

However, once one manages to get her to truly chat with them, she starts being less cold and somewhat more social, with increased frequency of unnecessary talking and reduced usage of butchered words, just to the people who she actually knows.

Skills: Eri has learned Kendo in order to efficiently fight bullies with sticks, with basic first aid knowledge to assist recovering from injuries sustained from a conflict. She is also capable of a high-level acting, usually used to be a quiet person.

Brief Backstory: Eri was born with her twin, named Keiko. She was raised by parents happy to help her, especially her father who actively taught her acting. However, when she was in a junior high school, the parents ended up divorcing after few days of heated arguments about cheating, with the mother taking Eri and the father taking Keiko. The event still remains in her heart, with the fact she ended up being bullied from the divorce only helping her create a cold persona to refuse contact from others while intimidating potential bullies with a stick.

Hearing two women mentioning the word "ready", the man which had some perverted thoughts in front of women was snapped back to the virtual reality, only to notice he had partially ruined his plan by his thought, judging from the expression of the blonde woman which looks like she is in his mid-to-late teens, just like the man with perverted thoughts.

"Ready." The man looked away from others again while slapping himself in the face, acknowledging it was a bad first impression to the women.

"Healing and hacking? They can be really helpful when it comes to enemies who rely on nanomachines to attack enemies. By the way, I specialize in shields. For both protection and offense."

The new person briefly and awkwardly smiled at everyone near him, noticing a surprisingly even ratio of male and woman, counting the new person himself. Suddenly, a stream of somewhat perverted thoughts started flowing into his mind;

"Wait, so each man is to be paired with at least one women? Does that mean romance? My friends might've told me that most players use their actual gender, since being a female character aren't a pleasant experience, since most, if not all of us are used to having a male body and being in a body that we aren't used, doesn't feel good... But whatever, I'll just take this chance and make the ladies hopefully fall for me at least online."

While the thoughts weren't directly spoken and he was attempting to look away from everyone, the new person's eyes and mouth would end up revealing what kind of thought he was having, to observant people.
