You called her Mina, Cruiser? Is Van Helsing going to pop up at some point? Great post, by the way.
Nah, it's okay. Abyss'l come for you.

By the way, great post. The punctuation really helped, I think (personally speaking, of course)...
@Gilgex your posts are pretty good. Honestly, there is one very easy way for you to improve that I can see; you seem to use a lot of full stops where it's probably more appropriate to use commas...

Man Usurper you're awesome! I am humbled. -begins hailing you all as god-

God damn it, it's happening again. No matter how hard I try, someone always ends up worshipping me...
I think it would work if it had moderated emergencies- e.g. a huge invasion from the ocean á la the mongols, or even more interestingly from some kind of colonial power with sci-fi technology...

In other words, we'd be the backward natives.

Jacob ignored Audiophile’s inane chatter, and strode into the newly- opened storage chamber. His eyes widened at the site. It was a huge, vast warehouse filled with row upon row of weapons, armour and…things from across the globe. It was an arsenal large enough to supply an army, and potent enough to bring a country to its knees. It was a blessing, Thane thought, that the government hadn’t been able to work out how to use the vast majority of this technology.

But Thane ignored all this tantalising weaponry, striding further into the armoury. He was a few metres in when he saw it. The familiar orange box had appeared in the bottom right hand corner of his vision. It asked a simple question, but one he had looked forward to throughout his time in prison. ‘Power On?’ it queried. Jacob answered yes.

He felt it instantly. His armour’s computer systems linked with his cybernetics’, merging them together into one mainframe. He immediately had full information of his suit; he could even see through its cameras, if he wished. Now that its location was on his HUD map, he could find it with ease. Jacob started running, as fast as he could, not wishing to spend any more time than was necessary in his vulnerable state.

He tore through shelve after shelve of miscellaneous technology, until finally he came to it. There it was, packaged tightly in a box. He pulled it out carefully and placed the boots on the floor. It was in one piece; this model was designed to self-squire, automatically attaching itself to the wearer.

He stepped into the boots, and each sole clipped down with a satisfying clunk. Pneumatic machinery started the squiring process, pushing armour up each leg. As it reached his groin, large plasteel plates separated themselves and pushed up to cover his torso. They latched onto threaded holes in his back and shoulders, and drilled into him, locking in place. His boots clamped down, fastening themselves to his body. Pauldrons and vambraces spread onto his arms, clasping onto his wrists and elbows. Gauntlets, scratched with use, fitted themselves perfectly onto his fingers. His armour locked together, practically welding itself onto Thane. Finally, his black helmet clutched onto his head and flipped down over his eyes. The internal visor flicked on, showing him direct feed from several cameras on his armour. Thane stretched his body out, feeling what it was like to be back in armour. It felt…powerful.

Thane punched the air, dancing around, feeling the speed that this suit allowed him. Most armour wasn't built to go as fast as Thane could swing a sword, but this was built to actually quicken his movements. He flipped into the air, performing a triple somersault before landing heavily on his knees. He got up, and brushed himself down. He had one more important belonging to retrieve.

And there it was, lying next to his armour. Thane bent down and picked it up, grasping its handle. He unsheathed his beloved sword, admiring its monomolecular blade. He held it out in front of him, in fencing pose. He thrust a few times, fast as lightning. Jacob turned suddenly and slashed at the shelf behind him, tearing through it like paper. It felt right to finally have his heirloom back in his hands. He sheathed it, and clipped it to his armour. Thane attached the rest of his weaponry- knives, grenades and pistols, nothing so precious as his rapier- and turned back towards the entrance. He was ready for anything the world could dare to throw at him.
Well, that and shovelware...
I used to like that too, but that's a game you have to play with a goal in mind. After finishing my huge waterways and aqueducts (to create a transport system) I kind of got bored- I couldn't think of any new project. I'm just getting into Dwarf Fortress now, though, so we'll see what happens there...
