Races

Human:
Humans are the dominant race on Oriast and the second most populous race in the world. They are also mostly Castian. Humans have a vast feudal society in which nobles are rulers. They have a variety of skin and hair colors though not to the extent of the elves or orlvan. They come from the northern continent of Oriast.

Elf:
Elves are a race of people with more angular features and sharper ears than humans. They also have an average higher affinity towards magic. (This does not mean they have more powerful magic users, just a higher number of them.) Elves have a variety of skin and hair colors. There are not nearly as many elves in Oriast as humans but they are a pretty common sight. They are the dominant race in northern Kederak.

Orcs:
Orcs are a race of people from the Far Eastern lands of the world past the Dwarven Mountains. They have a very honor filled society. Not much is known about their religion or government structure but it is known that they have some of the finest swordsmen and horsemen in the world. (Our Orcs are very Asian inspired, keep that in mind.) They generally only have different shade of green as a skin color and black hair. They are not a very common sight in Oriast.

Dwarves:
Dwarves are a short race of people living in the vast Dwarven mountains to the east. The are isolationists as a people and rarely ever venture from their mountains and not much is known about their culture or religion. What is known is that they have the least magic affinity of any race in the world. (This does not mean they do not have mages, just a very few of them.) They are also known to have the greatest blacksmiths in the world. They are not a common sight anywhere except for their mountains.

Orlvan:
The Orlvan are a mixed race with human, elf, and orc ancestors. They have the sharpened ears and hair colors of the elves, the less angular features and skin colors of the humans, and the massive frames and tusks of the orcs. They are the dominant race of Orderak and are split between Estlamic and Castian faiths. They are pretty common in Oriast though not nearly as much as humans. Orlvan are also the only race able to become Alm in the Castian Church besides humans because Castus himself was an Orlvan.

Magic

Mana:
Mana is the life force of magic in the world of Oriast and connects all realms of existence. It is used to cast spells, enchant objects, heal, and even summon creatures from the Supernatural World. Mana is both an internal and external source of power. Internally it is present within every living being and the amount of Mana a person naturally possess determines their affinity towards magic. Externally Mana exists in the very environment itself and can be manipulated by wizards to strengthen their own internal source of Mana to make their spells more potent. Manipulating external Mana is far more difficult and dangerous but is also much more powerful.

Elemental Magic:
Elemental magic (also known as battle magic) is the art of using Mana to create magical fire, ice, electricity, or telekinetic force to harm an opponent. Elemental magic is obviously dangerous and is the most widespread use of magic. It uses a fair amount of Mana and the damage it deals is dependent on the skill of the user like all forms of magic.

Warding Magic:
Warding magic focuses on creating magical shields to protect against harm. Different types of wards are needed to protect against different types of attack. For example, when being attacked by elemental fire a mage must use a fire ward spell to protect himself. When being attacked by sword or arrows a physical ward is needed. Warding magic can either be used to protect a single individual or entire armies depending on skill and available Mana.

Healing Magic:
Healing magic is seen as the most benevolent form of magic for obvious reasons. It is also hard to master. Healing magic can be used to heal both wounds and disease but there are somethings even healing magic cannot fix. (Such as death) Healing magic is often used by members of the Castian Church.

Dark Magic:
Dark magic is seen as being evil and is believed to have been created by the Arch Demon in order to turn souls away from the Promised Land. Dark magic includes summoning monsters from the Supernatural world, necromancy, mind control, and blood magic. Blood Magic is considered the worst of all dark magic because it corrupts the Mana used in casting blood spells. It is believed that Emperor Pullo used Blood Magic during the Fall of Saria.

Enchanting:
Enchanting is the art of magically altering weapons, armor, or objects. This ranges everywhere from a talisman that brings luck to flaming swords. Enchanting can also be used in dark magic as Voodoo is becoming more and more popular amongst the more unsavory mages in the world.

Common:
Common are people who do not have the ability to use magic in any shape or form. Common people are the most common in the world and are not able to use Mana in any way. Hell most don’t even know what Mana is.

Mage:
A mage is a magic user that can only use the Mana within themselves. They are completely unable to manipulate external Mana and their ability largely depends on the amount of Mana a person possess within themselves. Personal Mana can be increased through intense training and meditation. Mages are the most common magic users.

Witch/Warlock:
A witch/warlock is a person only capable of manipulating external Mana. Their abilities are much more dangerous to themselves than a mages and it takes years of practice to master even the simplest of spells. Witches/warlocks are completely dependent on external mana and usually cannot cast a spell without the help of complex rituals and tools.

Wizards:
Wizards are the least common magic users and are capable of using both internal and external Mana to create spells. This also means that they are the most powerful of all magic users. Wizards are the capable when it comes to using magic and are capable of casting truly powerful spells. Emperor Pullo, the High Priest of the Cult of Pullo, and Florian Serrer are all famous wizards.

Oriast

Oriast is a Dark Fantasy world based on fiction such as the Witcher, Fable, Game of Thrones, Dragon Age, and even the real world. Our story takes place in the year 780 AFS in a time where the continent is overrun by monsters and bandits. Even the most powerful Kingdom in Oriast, Raliven, is extremely weakened and unable to provide safety to travelers or unwalled villages. Creatures such as vampires, werewolves, demons, dragons, draugirs, balvarines, harpies, wraiths, and many others haunt the landscape.

Forty years ago the people of Oriast won a seventy year long war against the Cult of Pullo and their Demon Army at a great cost. The population was cut significantly and is still recovering. Technology has been set back hundreds of years making this a world of primitive siege engines and long bows. (Very early European technology) Medicine is almost non-existent and the common man is illiterate. Magic is also very uncommon and is only practiced by those belonging to institutions such as the College of Mages or the Sarian Academy.

Oriast is a world of humans, elves, dwarves, orcs, lizard people, and orlvan (a mixture of human, elf and orc). It has entered a second Dark Age. Despite this there is an overwhelming number of adventurers and mercenaries that travel the land in search of fame and fortune. Some of the most famous of these adventurers come from the Sarian Academy, an institution that was created after the Demon War by a war hero named Florian Serrer. For forty years its students have traveled the world as both heroes, villains, and everything in between.

We will be playing as Sarians, or people who have trained at the Sarian Academy to become dangerous warriors. We will travel through an open sandbox world going on adventures and determining the fate of entire nations.
