Sirius, Shor & Lysette

Lysette is deeply disturbed by the scents erupting through under her door. Having just activated her enhanced smelling, the metallic odor of blood was… Troubling. She follows the smell to its source, just in time to spectate Riss devouring a chunk of a cat and proceed to toss the remainder like a leaking beanbag behind him.

Brutal remains of the cat are are strewn about the room, decorating a large section of the floor and table. A gust of wind smears the bits into a neat pile in the center of the floor before the clump is balled up, floating to the nearest disposal bin. She sniffs a second time before conjuring another wave of air to push out the lingering smell of the corpse.

With very many questions to ask, she scans the room, looking for a normal orphan to inquire on the mess. She spots shining mr justice and a girl wearing a muffler together at a table by the corner and approaches.

“Who… Why… Is that cat… Less than whole? And I mean the real cat, not that wild succubus.”

“Well” Shor began hesitantly “The cat was… decimated BY the aforementioned wild succubus. She really needs some discipline...Maybe I should punch some into her?” Having said this, she returned her chair to a position that wasn’t tilted 60 degrees and got up. “Either way, these MORONS-” she said loud enough to make sure Moira and Natalia could hear “-are not my problem. Jeez, can’t even eat in peace nowadays.”

She sounds like a fun person. Moira thinks with glee, wondering how Shor would handle the next lunchtime interruption.

Sirius interjects, “Basically Moira bisected the cat and Riss lost in many more ways than one in the ensuing conflict. I’ll see if I can get a punishment levied on her when I report this to the higher ups here.”

“I… Don't think I'll be eating either” Lysette mutters with a slight pout. “I'll just leave you two to your food now. Find some odd job to do today… Debt isn't getting any smaller.” Lysette wanders off to the door, quietly muttering “debt” over and over to herself as she makes distance.

Lysette doesn’t seem to be okay. Sirius calls out to her before she leaves, “Hey, do you want to come with us to kill some manabeasts and get more artifacts?”

Sirius’s offer halted Lysette before she got to the door. She wasn't exactly sure who'd be going with them, but Sirius was there, and Sirius was dependable as the sun.

“That'd be great!” She chirps to the pair as she returns to the table.
Sirius beams at Lysette, “Let's get Riss and be on our way then.”

Awoo

Rolling out of bed with the grace and dexterity of a gazelle, Lysette nimbly picked her artifacts, a ring and necklace, out of the mess of belonging adorning her nightstand. The change to rooming at Liravel unfortunately resulted in a disarray of her meager amount of possessions.

A daily pat on her head reminded her of the ears and tail that had formed the week she had first arrived. It was a an odd sort of change, but she merely accepted and embraced her additional features. They caught the attention of passerbys, and she would need all the help she could get in her daunting climb out of debt. Being noticed led to interactions, which led to the possible odd jobs to be done.

Her current situation and small source of income consisted of dusting and sweeping out the floors of an old inn set above a dubiously run bar. Through assistance of her wind focused magic, she was able to clean faster and for cheaper than the employed girl, and secured her first real job. The pay each day allowed Lysette to afford real food, instead of the bland and debt inducing orphanage food.

A constant and brutal reminder is carved on her door.

Interesting choice of title, but I'll probably join this~
[Ryika & Lauren]

Placing a hand on Ryika's shoulder, Lauren shuffled past and went up to her room. "Go on and get some food at the cafeteria. I'll catch up to you later okay!?"Yeah right... It's time for some peace and quiet.

"Okay! I'll be sure to save you a seat there!" Ryika cheerfully replied as the pair separated.

------------

[Ryika]

A confused Ryika emerged from the dorm building, unsure of what to do. Her precious notebook had been stashed away in her room with Lauren, leaving her with nothing to reference. She headed to the main building, assuming that the cafeteria would be inside, or at least someone who could tell her where.

The path between the dormitories and the main building was dotted with small groups of students nervously chatting among themselves, many bandaged up in various places. Ryika avoided bumping into students wandering around, who were eyeing the other groups of students as if they were looking for a place to fit into, as to avoid being dragged into a relation she didn't want or need.

She continued along the short path to the main building from the dormitories and ended up in the lobby. After a brief scan of the room she spotted a sign pointing towards the cafeteria, where many other students were convening. Nearly all the students she passed by were discussing the words that they had chosen, showing off where the word had been imprinted on their skin.

Lacking any desire to eat without her friend, Ryika meandered around the room, searching for a place that they could both sit at. She settled on a near empty table populated only by a pair of girls sitting together at the end. The girl in the hoodie seemed to be in slight distress while the other was seemingly satisfied by something that had occurred previously.

These two seem normal. Time to make friends.

"Hello~! I'm Ryika. Can me and my friend sit with you two?"
[Ryika & Lauren]

“It’s not like I was worried about you or anything--just that you left your… book with me, so here it is!” With a HMPH, Lauren thrusts the book forward and turns away, cheeks ever so slightly red.

Ryika stares upward at the outstretch book, sniffling as she inched her hand towards Lauren’s foot.

*Latch*

Ryika grips onto Lauren’s left leg and feebly tugs her leg.

*stomp*

“KYAAH!” Lauren stomps on the hand reflexively. “...oh, sorry. Acted on reflex.” Coulda been a hobo. Or a zombie. Or both.

Ryika retracts her now twitching hand, tenderly patting it with her other.

“...you okay?” Lauren asks, feigning indifference. She glances down at the pitiful, blood-covered figure.

“That was mean”

“I’m here, aren’t I?”

“Are you really?” Ryika meekly muttered while rolling over, glass shards falling off of her jacket.

“No, I already passed away. What you’re seeing is an illusion of the friend you once knew, a figment of your imagination.” Lauren drawls with heavy heavy sarcasm.

Ryika pulled the continuing to be outstretch book of hers from Lauren’s hands and clutched it to her chest, rising on her knees. “Is the blight over?”

“If by blight you mean the monsters, yeah. They’re all gone. It’s a miracle you didn’t get gobbled up, you dummy.” Lauren admonishes.

“Pfft, not with /this/ handbook I won’t!” Ryika boasted while brandishing the book in front of Lauren.

“You mean the handbook I just returned to you.” *>.>*

“I’m sure it would’ve turned up eventually.”

“A light drizzle would have annihilated it.” Lauren points out.

“It’s waterproof… wax… duh… c’mon basic arts and crafts.”

“And I don’t suppose the paper is waterproof as well??”

“Go ahead, lick the paper. Maybe it’ll change color.”

“Figments of imaginations can’t lick things, remember?”

“Aww… I guess not.” Ryika glumly looks down at the book, gently patting the cover.

“...please don’t actually lick it. I--just don’t.” Lauren sighs mentally.

“Nope.” Ryika shakes her head, sending more bloody glass chunks flying from her hair.

“Oh my god go get yourself fixed up already!” Lauren Transmits all the glass and blood off of Ryika and storms off, Transmitting Ryika behind her every dozen steps.

“Nooo stop!” Ryika shriek as her knees painfully impacted with the ground after every transmit.

“Can’t hear you~” Lauren sings playfully.

*Zap~!* Ryika bolts the ground near Lauren, inadvertently shocking the pair at the same time.

Convulsing uncontrollably, Lauren falls to the ground.

“i-i-idiot!” Lauren squeaks between convulsions.

Ryika crawled over to her convulsing companion and prodded Lauren with the spine of the book. “Serves you right.”

Still twitching, Lauren glares at Ryika and Transmits the aftershocks of the electricity in her onto Ryika.

Positions immediately switched, Ryika convulsed in the exact manner that Lauren had been moments before. “H-hey, what did you d-do?”

“I’m surprised that worked too.” Lauren responds, distracted. “Hey, maybe I can Transmit your wounds onto something else. And heal you.”

Since they were already near the nurse’s office, Lauren brings them the rest of the way there and peeks through the window.

I mean if he’s already being treated...

With a slightly guilty grin, Lauren Transmits Ryika’s head injury and glass cuts onto the boy resting on an infirmary cot. The boy promptly explodes with new injuries and the nurse rushes over aghast.

Ryika immediately brings her hands to her head, dropping the book. “Oh, the headache is gone!” Ryika springs to her feet and runs in to hug Lauren.

"D-dummy..." Lauren mutters, cheeks burning crimson. She hugs Ryika back.

---

"Where is it... Aha!" Ryika pulls out the envelope tucked in the back of her notebook. She ripped it open along the top and pulled out the paper detailing her room assignment.

"Hmm room 148... What did you get Lauren?"

Whew. "I have room 265." Lauren sighs in relief. She doubted she'd be able to handle Ryika as a roommate.

"Aww... I thought that... We could... Stay together." Ryika drooped.

Aww... She's like a small plant. Lauren actually felt bad for a moment before remembering she was still only a figment of Ryika's imagination.

When they got to the lobby, they gave their names to the receptionist as requested. The pair were about to walk onward when the receptionist called out.

"Hold up you two! You have stuff to sign before you go on!" The receptionist beckoned the pair to approached the desk, sliding packets forward with a pen on top of each.

They each signed the contracts. "Oh, and one more thing." The receptionist added. "Your roommate, tragically, passed away during the blight, as did yours. So, you've been reassigned to be rooming together!" The receptionist smiles, believing she did them a service by making the most out of the situation.

Ryika's face lit up at the news, smiling at Lauren, who was not.

Fuuuuuuck. Lauren wilts despondently. She twitches, then begins to laugh uncontrollably. "This, this is great! I'll never be away from you now! Never! Ahahahahahahahhaahhahahaha..." Still laughing quietly to herself, a crazed look in her eyes, Lauren walks to her new room.

This is going to be so much fun! Ryika thought as she skipped after the rapidly retreating Lauren.
[Marcus, Lauren, Ryika, Alice, Bran]

“Birb” Ryika pointed at Alice.

“Hey.” Lauren responds.

Gasping for breath, Bran ran up to the group.

“What are your names?” Alice repeated herself, slightly peeved at her question being ignored.

“Lauren.”

"Silent Thunder"

“Cool. Nice to meet you Lauren and Silent,” Alice responded happily. Silent Thunder is kind of a weird name, but okay!

...She actually believes that that's her real name? ... Lauren gives Ryika a look and is about to say something, but gives it up and falls silent. Not worth the effort.

Covered in head to foot in slowly drying blood, Marcus approaches the group and asks haltingly if anyone had a Word that could remove the blood on him. As it dried, the blood began to form an uncomfortable crust that cracked and flaked off whenever he moved.

“Err… no. I just have the word ‘wings’,” replies Alice.

"Can't you use that to make the blood fly off?" Lauren points out.

“How?” Alice tilts her head, confused.

"Just... Imagine the blood flying off of him? If you can make yourself fly, you should be able to."

“But.. my wings allow me to fly,” Alice says hesitantly.

"They'd have to be huge. Or flap much faster."

“So... you’re saying that the word ‘wings’ allows me to make things fly? And that that’s the reason why I’m hovering right now?” Alice asks.

"Probably. Just a guess." It's the only thing that makes sense.

“Alright, I’ll try it then!” Alice exclaims enthusiastically. She closes her eyes and pictures all of the blood flying off of Marcus.

"Thanks!" Marcus exclaims as he watches all the blood on himself literally fly off of himself. Being clean again was a nice feeling.

Unfortunately, not everyone was as lucky as Marcus, as the blood splatters on everyone else.

"KYAAAHH!!!" Lauren squeaks in surprise and disgust.

“Ewww!” Alice then imagines the blood flying off of herself, making the blood re-splatter on Marcus and everyone else.

"Really?!" Both Lauren and Marcus burst out, blood flinging off their hands as they throw them up into the air.

“I’m sorry!” Alice says, flabberghasted. Oops. I did that without thinking.

"Eugh..." Lauren sighs in frustration, annoyance, and just general DONENESS. She Transmits all the blood as far away as she can see. It may or may not land on someone else.

Giving Lauren a look of gratitude, Marcus takes a look at the rest of the group. Some words were exposed, others weren't. One girl was flying, but others weren't using their words as obviously. "I'm Marcus." He says.

“Hi Marcus, my name is Alice! And my word is ‘wings’!” Alice introduces herself cordially.

"That's nice." Marcus responds. Girl, why the hell would you choose wings?

"Thanks!"

Ryika had bolted away once the blood had splattered on her, heading towards the main campus again. She stopped 30 feet away from the group before getting splattered by more blood.

"Fueeeeeeeee~!" Ryika was blinded by the spray of partially crusted blood transmitted by Lauren. She blindly ran by the buildings, knocking into both bystanders and monsters in her path.

*klyiish plinkplinkplink* Ryika slams into a window face first, shattering the glasses and flipping forward over the ledge. *unconscious* Residents off class one stare at the bloodied mass from the window.

“She dead” was the last thing Ryika heard before blacking out.
[Ryika & Lauren]

Frowning at the look Lauren gave their classmate, Ryika squinted at Lauren before following Spike to the classroom. She took a seat right by the door. Lauren slid into the seat right behind her.

“Now pick a word and write it on the paper in front of you. And do try to be serious, this word will be the most important thing to you this year, other than perhaps your life.”

The teacher, Mr. Brindley, handed Ryika the slip of paper, on which she promptly wrote 'Bolt'. She spun around with the paper in her hand to show off to Lauren.

"So... What word are you going to write?"

"I don't know."

"Well make sure it's something useful, unlike the word... 'bees'?"

"I don't know what to write!"

"Just write SOMETHING, no ideas at all?"

*Remembers the guy told her to write Transmit* "Maybe?" *Embarrassed*

"Hmm, well better hurry up before the monsters get ya. :) Because I'm running once I get my word."

*sweat-drop* "Ugh I'm just gonna-" Lauren wrote "Transmit" down. What can I even do with it? He made it sound like it'd be useful. "A guy told me to write Transmit but I don't know how useful that'd be."

Ryika stroked her chin 'sagely' and said "You would... transmit things. Like people. Stuff. Monsters. Pretty nice."

"Transmit stuff?" Lauren's paper disintegrated and caused a burning sensation on her thigh.
"...T_T"

"Well... I'm going to... 'Bolt' out of here now." Ryika's paper poofed, imprinting the word above her right ankle. "Follow me, if you want to live."

Is she serious? -_- Lauren stared back at Ryika.

Ryika kicked her feet up on the desk and double-finger pistoled at Lauren, imagining two tiny bolts of electricity jumping from her fingers to Lauren. "To the track!"

"KYAH~!" Lauren yelped and flinched as she was shocked. She glared at Ryika and then glanced at her chair, imagining it appearing a foot to the zappy girl's left.

"FUEEEEEEEE~!" *Thud* Ryika fell backward onto her back. She rolled to the door in pain and crawled out, much to the confusion of Mr. Brindley.

Ryika shouted back at Lauren "No really, come to the track! It'll be much safer!" Ryika imagined bolting to the track, increasing her speed to a level much higher than her norm.

Desperate to keep her only friend at the school in sight, Lauren ran after the apparently insanely fit Olympian sprinter. "How... huff huff... is she so FAST?!" On her hands and knees catching her breath, Lauren watched as Ryika grew smaller and smaller. But I'll still beat her there hehe Closing her eyes, Lauren pictured the track she passed entering the school and herself standing on it. When she opened her eyes, she was there, the cool air of the hall replaced by a gentle breeze and warm sunshine.

Ryika continued along the path to the track, and not before long, the seals started to appear, with the monsters spawning from them afterwards. It was not long before the track was in sight, and much to her surprise, Lauren was already standing in the middle. Ryika smiled at her friend's success in using her word.

*Trip* Missing the seal on the ground spawning a monster, Ryika fliped forward from catching her foot on the rising teeth of the monster.

"Pwaaah~!" Ryika skids across the ground in front of Lauren.

"..."
"What took you so long?" Lauren inquired levelly, smirking slightly as she stood over the prone girl.

"Rude." Ryika sat up and stared at the slowly rising monster. "Bolt!" Ryika used another meaning of the word, this time creating a crossbow bolt above, shooting into the monster.

*Thunk* The bolt barely affected the monster, which only paused for a moment.

A heavy, menacing growl alerted Lauren to the presence of a second monster coming from behind her. As it ran at her, Lauren Transmitted the monster a good twenty meters away. A distant *CRACK* resounded moment later as the monster chomped on thin air. Disoriented, it spun around looking for its prey before it focused back on Lauren. When it grew close, she sent it away again. This sad exchange continued for a while, with Lauren standing bored, arms crossed.
“Can’t you shock them or something?” She asks, irritated. Lauren was so bored, she was trying out having the monster land on its head after being moved.

Ryika huffed at Lauren’s challenge and stood up. The first monster was now approaching her, mouth wide open. “Gross.” She stepped back next to Lauren before creating three lightning bolts in rapid succession to strike the monster. Her word reduced the monster to a charred mass, along with the swath of track it was standing on.

“See this is useful! A monster could have eaten you out of a wall if we didn’t come out here!” Ryika flaunted her handbook in front of Lauren.

“It’s written in crayon.” Lauren ends up moving the monster 30 feet in the air. It makes a squishing sound as it bounces once.

Ryika gasped as she saw Lauren move the creature up in the air. “Wow. Who suggested this word to you again?” Ryika shot off three crossbow bolts towards it as it fell. All missed by at least 20 feet.

“Just some guy.” That said I was pretty. *BLUSH*

---

[Marcus]

Marcus, in the process of throwing a monster as far as he could down the track, feels a weight hit him in the back of the head. “What the-” He turns around to see two more crossbow bolts coming at him. He turns back around and lifts up another monster corpse. This one’ll go even farther! *muted thuds*

---

[Ryika and Lauren]

“OH MY GOD, I THINK I HIT SOMETHING DOWN FIELD.” Ryika screamed, pointing toward a group of monster around a hulking beast lifting another monster up.

Lauren holds her hand over her eyes as she peers down the track. “That’s an odd looking monster.”

“My parents never wrote anything like that in the handbook…” Ryika mused.

“It doesn’t look like it likes the other monsters though.” They watched as a white monster is flung into the air, faintly trailing blood.

“Wow, I wonder why they’re fighting.” Ryika glanced around at the rest of the track. Several other students were around it, either running from monsters or combatting them. Even more were scrambling around the buildings of the school complex.

Lauren glances at Ryika. She’s going to suggest a really stupid reason, I just know it. Like a family feud or something.

“What if like, they got into an argument about who got to eat which students, and they couldn’t agree on who got who” Ryika suggested.

Lauren facepalms. Why. Just, why.

“Do you have a watch? This is only suppose to last 30 minutes. Not that many monsters are coming towards us instead of that… other monster there.” Ryika questioned while staring at Lauren’s wrists.

“Do you see a watch?” Lauren was still facepalming.

“You might have a pocket watch. Is your face okay? You’re touching it often.”

“It hurts.” When I think about how dumb you are.

“Oh… Do you need a hug?” Ryika moved up in front of Lauren.

“Lauren glanced past her palm to look at Ryika. “No.”

“Kay, feel better soon! Maybe we can go to a nurse later. :)” Ryika smiled brightly at her own suggestion.

Lauren brings her remaining palm to her face. “...sure.”
[Lauren and Ryika (Collaboration by Mattie_ and vanovick)]

Gracefully stepping out of her parent’s limo, Ryika tightly clutched the handbook her parents had written for her. The driver exited the car a moment later and retrieved her luggage from the trunk, two suitcases and a duffle bag.

Ryika waited by the curb until the driver caught up to her. She led ahead to the guarded gate, where her driver passed the luggage to the guard to be taken inside. She waved goodbye to the driver before following the guards through the gate.

The instant she passed through the gate, she was across the distance to the school, in front of the track. Her parents told her this would happen. She wouldn’t have believed them before this.

High quality track. Hopefully there’ll be free time. Ryika thought while walking across to the school.

The guards escorted her to a table set up in the middle of the track, where she was greeted by a woman.

“Hello there, first and last name please?” she asked.

Ryika paused for a brief moment before collecting herself. She confidently responded

“Ryika Syverson.”

“Ok, here we go! Make sure to head to your class today, starting at 10am. Here is your envelope, you’ll be in class number two.” the woman pointed to the ‘2’ written on the envelope as she passed it across the table “Room key and more information is in that, make sure you go through it.”

“Thank you” Ryika said while nodding to the woman.

Ryika continued alongside the table before looking back at the woman.

“Class two is that building” the woman smiled while pointing “Good luck!”

Ryika sighed and kept walking, remembering all the stories her parents had told her of the first day.

I don’t need anymore reminders of what will happen.

---

“Good luck honey. We’ll see you in a year.”
“Thanks mom. Bye!”
Lauren hoists her luggage out of the trunk of the small family sedan and rolls it toward the ornate gate, waving to her parents over her shoulder.

They didn’t even get out of the car to see me off, but I guess that’s no surprise. It’s only one year right? Eugh... I could have been born with worse parents though.

A guard stood on each side of the fancy, eastern-looking gate, and one more guard stood off to the side. Lauren looked down to avoid meeting their eyes as she walked up. They were frankly scary, giving off a dangerous feeling. She yelped and looked up in surprise when a guard stepped in front of her and held out his hand.

Did I do something wrong? Am I not allowed in? My parents will kill me!

“Wha-what is it?” She asked nervously.
“I’ll take your luggage. It needs to be inspected, and will be sent to your room
afterwards.” The guard stated impassively.
“Oh.. right.” Lauren handed her luggage over and quickly continued on, silently sighing
in her head.

Staring at the ground as she passed through the gate, she missed the moment when she transitioned to the grounds of the school, and was thus only mildly surprised when she looked up to see the reception tables in front of her. When did I walk this far?

”Hello! May I have your name?” The kindly older man in a blue suit inquired.
“I’m Lauren, Lauren Zavala.”
“Welcome, Lauren. This contains everything you need. Your class number is on the front, and within the envelope is your room key and room information. Any questions? No? Then you’re all set.” The man clasps his hands together, eyes twinkling.

Saying nothing after that but still looking at her, Lauren realized that was her cue to leave.

---

9:40

Rhythmically flipping the pages back and forth, Ryika stared down at handbook as she walked, barely glancing at the notes she had already gone over during the ride here.

She stopped on the words page, the one her parents spent the most time writing on.

Bolt. I can’t wait to see how it works.

The page was filled with bullet points of the word bolt. The various uses and interpretations of it.

Ryika skimmed down the page yet again, and while flipping to the next page, crashed into another person walking, sending the book flying.

“Hey, watch where you’re going!” Lauren grumbles as she picks herself up off the floor. Still dusting off her shoulders, she picks up the book that the girl dropped. “What’s this?” Lauren asks as she hands it back to the girl. “A... guidebook?”

Lauren flips to the first page and starts reading.

“Monsters spawning out of walls...?...! What the hell is this book, some sort of fanfic? And it looks handwritten...” Lauren murmurs, her eyes poring over the pages.

Ryika stumbled past the girl and spun around, eye wide when she saw her book in the girl’s hands.

“Hey! That’s my book! Could’ve been personal stuff…” Ryika exclaims as she snatched it back.

“And it’s NOT, a fanfic, thank you very much. It’s a guidebook to this school. My parents attended this place before. That’s what’ll happen the first day. Monsters.”

Ryika raised the book to Lauren’s face and pointed to the word on the page. Monsters.

Lauren nods sagely. “Oh yes, my mistake. It does clearly say monsters. I must be the silly one for walking into a monster academy without realizing it.”
-_-

Ryika nodded and smiled, not detecting a hint of sarcasm. “Yup! Just looking out for you too. I don’t want you to get eaten suddenly, since you’re the first person I’ve talked to here. Are you in class two as well?”

Oh god, she’s in my class.
...
If I denied it, she’d see me in class anyways.
Sigh.

“...Yeah.”

“Oh, cool! Let’s walk to class together! My name’s Ryika! I can tell you more about this place too...” Ryika trailed off, unsure of the name.

“I’m Lauren. And... sure.” Dragging her feet, Lauren follows after Ryika.

The pair continued to the class two building door before stopping behind a dirty individual. Ryika stops and looks back at Lauren before approaching him and reaches toward his shoulder to brush off a dirt clump.

"Hey you got something there."

How did this bum get past the guards? Lauren looks the guy up and down skeptically.
