@Wick Plants yes but animals no. Basically if the thing is either dead or without a intellect he can straight up take the energy.

Personality:

Alex is outgoing and generally gets along with everyone. However when someone crosses him he will get them back, even if it isn't immediate. He also tends to hide his negative emotions bottling them up till he can't contain them.

History:

Alexavier grew up in the US and had a relatively average upbringing. His mother was an accountant and his father a bus driver. He was pretty athletic and played multiple sports, though he much preferred martial arts. He would occasionally go on hunting trips with his grandfather. After graduating high school he took a gap year traveling to different countries known for the martial arts he was most interested in. He had just returned to the US for a few weeks and was headed home when he was picked up by a military convoy and brought to the bunker.
After the bunker opened he was among the first to leave searching for food. He eventually began to feel unwell and headed back to the bunker where he saw people dying. He began to feel sicker over the next few days, then when he began to feel better he went out again but noticed every time he touched a plant it withered to dust and he felt more energized.

Hunting: Alex is an adept hunter and tracker after going on so many hunting trips with his grandfather.
Martial arts: Alex has trained in a variety of martial arts though he concentrated on those that used weapons as well as Muay Thai and Krav Maga.
Athletic: Alex is highly athletic having played multiple sports including swimming, gymnastics, and basketball.

Power:

Essence Refining and Assimilation

Abilities:

He is capable of refining the strength/abilities of a living/recently deceased organic being into an energy he calls essence. If used on something alive it will die, as absorbing its essence causes it to turn to dust, though he is only able to do it to something that can't resist, physically or mentally. He can then use the essence to heal himself or others. Assimilation allows him to also use the essence to strengthen his physical attributes, though the increase is both dependent on the strength of the essence source as well as his skill in using the ability. If used on something/one with abilities it has a chance to either temporarily(early on) or permanently(later on).

Weakness:

Doesn't give much benefit early on as he will be unable to really control it. Can generally only be used on plants and recently deceased animals. Refining non-plant essence takes time and cannot be done during combat or any other highly time sensitive situation. He has a limit of how much essence he can absorb but cannot voluntarily stop once the process begins meaning if he starts to absorb something with more essence than he can contain he will die unless he his forcibly interrupted which also causes backlash.

Aelrath followed the guards and quickly found the cause of the alarm. Beastmen were entering the town and were currently fighting the guards. He surveyed the area so as to get a general idea of the strength of the two sides. The beastmen's main advantage was their size and strength, while most of the guards were decently skilled combatants. There were a few people that stood out among the defenders; a ranger who used his bow to injure a beastman before dispatching him with his sword, a man using a crossbow to attack from a distance, and a large man using his strength to go head to head with some of the beastmen. Aelrath unsheathed his swords and headed toward the center of the fight.

"Glavaitha'segeth," his swords became coated in a layer of blue and white flame as he reached his first opponent, a beastman wielding two huge cleavers. Avoiding a slash at his head Aelrath stepped closer to the beast raising his sword and piercing through its throat. It slowly fell to the floor holding its throat as it choked on its own blood. Aelrath leaped over the corpse stabbing a beast that was about to kill a guard in the shoulder. As he did so his hood fell back revealing his facial features. He followed up with a strike to the chest turning the beast into a charred mess. "Are you ok?" he asked turning towards the guard. "I didn't need your help damn elf." the guard says as he picks up his sword and leaves. Aelrath shook his head and turned around to continue fighting.
