Academy 218: Why

I like the idea as well, though perhaps occasionally there are events where the teams get mixed? It would be interesting to be able to interact with as many people as possible, rather then focusing on just your team.

Chloe Knight

Basic Information

Name: Chloe Knight

Lamia, 'That creepy snake girl'

Age: 17
Gender: Female
Appearance: At first glance Chloe could be mistaken for normal. She has medium neck length hair that definitely hasn't seen much more attention than an occasional brush. She has Caucasian facial structure and soft features that make her look younger than she is. While she could be considered pretty she doesn't have any of the features that would get her called 'cute' or 'beautiful' and she can often fall into the background when compared to other girls. Her eyes are a light brown, most of the time.
She has a thin athletic build, though without much of the muscle a true athlete would had. Some in fact might just call her a bit skinny. Shes not dissatisfied with her appearance however, as she does have some feminine 'attributes'. Nothing impressive but far more than some of the girls shes seen.
Her one annoyance beyond her incredible averageness is her height. Standing at 5'3 she isn't far below the average and many people don't know why it bothers her so much. She believes that if shes going to be cursed with average looks then fate could have at least given her a normal height.
She often dresses in T-Shirts and shorts, though she will wear most things, including dresses. She particularly likes bird themed designs on her clothes.

This is her appearance most of the time, however it has an annoying tendency to change when she gets emotional or stressed. The most common change is in the eyes, with them taking on the appearance of a variety of snakes. This can be rather off-putting to most people, as they can seem very cold and can land her in the uncanny valley. In more extreme cases fangs, stretchable jaw joints and body covering scales (anything from brown python to rainbow boa) can appear. In this state she can occasionally smell of reptilian musk, which necessitates frequent showers.

Skills/Talents:
Decent climber: The one physical activity she ever really enjoyed was rock climbing and it shows. Shes an above average climber in terms of skill, but her main trait is that shes completely fearless of heights or dangers, even if she probably should be.

Bird Watcher: If you can point out a bird, Chloe can name it. Extensive knowledge of native birds isn't her only talent however, she also knows a lot about bird-care and breeding. She is definitely thinking about setting up a parrot breeding business once shes back from camp.

Mixed bag: Chloe has tried lots of different clubs and sports, though shes never managed to stick to any bar climbing. Thus she has beginner knowledge in many martial arts, crafts, sports, trivia and games. Her short attention span is both a curse and a great incentive to try new things. This 'Skill' rarely comes in useful.

Brief Backstory: Chloe was born in England on the 31st of October. Her Father was an accountant and her mother a schoolteacher, so she ended up with quite a bit of pressure to always do her homework and behave in lessons. She wasn't a perfectly behaved child of course, as she tended to enjoy taking risks to show off to anyone who would watch. She was rather outgoing and tried to make many friends and try all the clubs and activities in school, though she never achieved any great successes.
She was generally happy with her life, until her 16th birthday when her parents announced that they would be moving to America to the dream house they had been saving for. This did not amuse Chloe, who tried her hardest to convince them to say. All her friends were in England after all, and she had planned which college and university she was going to apply for, and what job she wanted to get. It would ruin everything.

They still went of course, but Chloe was rather put out.

As with her life and looks, the awakening of her powers was rather boring. One day she simply woke up as a Cobra. After an initial scare and some confusion her parents found out and got her registered with NEST, who determined that she was likely not a threat. Things would have gone back to normal if not for one fact, the college she was attending was in a primarily anti-metahuman area, with a large Saviors presence.
After an accidental change in lesson, her life became somewhat more difficult, with notes going mission and friends finding excuses to leave when they say her. It all came to a head when a local 'Pure' wannabe decided to show the 'creepy snake girl' she wasn't wanted. During the incident Chloe came close to losing control of her instincts, almost biting the boy. Thus she decided that she needed proper instruction, getting her parents to contact NEST about enrolling her in one of their academies.

It wasnt until after it was arranged that she realised it was covered in snow.

Power Information

Super-System - Bestial
Power:
Serpent Form (or 'Snakeshifting')
Chloe's power is to shapeshift into any natural snake. This gives her a range of abilties such as swimming, gliding, climbing, constricting, hiding and of course biting. Chloe has some control over the forms themselves, able to choose to become any known morph or varient of snake, including using the max sizes of species rather then the average. This also allows her to make her snake forms slightly more durable.

Partial Shifting
Chloe can also take chosen aspects of serpents and apply them to her human body. This power is something she had trouble with though, often activating it by mistake when emotional or pulling more aspects than she wants when using it on purpose. The main features she considers useful is infrared vision, vibration sense, incredible agility, enhanced smell/taste and slightly armored scales.

Limits:
Chloe can only turn into real snakes. So far she has never managed any of the mythological variants like the basilisk. She does think that being a feathered serpent would be cool, but unfortunately her efforts to add wings haven't met success.
Also her ability to enhance the strength, toughness or size of her forms is rather limited.
The limits of her partial shapeshifting are twofold, first there only so much you can get from a single animal group like snakes. Second is that the ability seems to be rather temperamental.

Weaknesses/Drawbacks:

The main weakness to her power is that any metahuman with a combat ability can probably kill a snake. They are not the most resilient of creatures, and when in human form she is not really any tougher or stronger than normal. The scales and enhancement could stop a knife wielded by a non-metahuman, but guns and above would be just as dangerous to her as anyone else.

Chloe also suffers from some residual serpentine instincts whenever she uses her power. On more than one occasion shes found herself curled up by a radiator or grabbing a passing small animal without meaning too. Whats rather disturbing is how tasty looking the rats she sees are becoming.
The last weakness was developed recently. When trying partial shifting for the first time Chloe somehow managed to perminatly apply a snakes cold blooded physiology to herself and hasn't figured out how to remove it since. This has left her slightly slower in cold climates as her metabolism slows right down. A slight benifit caused by this weakness is that she doesnt need to eat as often when cold.

Hey, copied my character accross with a few changes, nothing major. I notice that Chloe and Pink are actualy quite similar in some ways, but massively different in terms of personality. Still, both have predator instincts, prefer meat, have sharp teeth (/fangs) and are cold blooded. I'm gunna love whatever interactions they end up having.

Also Chloe will fight her for that Jormungandr code name.

All things considered it had been a good day so far, for the most part. It was bright and clear, and Chloe just knew there would be some good sunny spots to sunbathe in, if she could find them. She had awoken slightly late and rushed her usually lazy morning routine in order to get to the showers before Kai, though luckily the ice controller had either slept in or had managed to keep her chilling aura under control today, as the water had been warm and the showers ice free. Since her roommate was already out, likely causing mischief, Chloe had decided to go grab some food and maybe find someone to chat to there. For now though she was tucking into her breakfast with a healthy appetite, knowing there was probably going to be a tiring day ahead.

The shifter had piled her plate high with food, though mostly meat, and thrown herself down at a random table in the cafeteria. Due to her rush earlier she was wearing the standard camp shorts and the t-shirt in orange. Her appearance was completely human at the moment, and the small smile gracing Chloe’s face showed her pride at her self-control. Another morning snake free, I think I might be getting the hang of this.
Her small self-congratulation session was ruined when a few glances from some of the other campers clued her in to the fact that she had, at some point, stopped chewing her food before swallowing it.

She sighed and hung her head a little in embarrassment.

Thats a good point, how much info does each camper have on each other? Would it have just been a name call, or have the powers been demonstrated. Also which camp staff have we seen so far, I assume there was the welcome talk and rules talk staff member, as well as one of the trainers if we did have a training session already.

Second thing, are we waiting for some more people to join before starting, or just for the first impression bits to be done.

Right, some basic ideas on Chloes first impressions of people. Most of this is WIP. Let me know if anyone wants to start with something defined.

Jago + Newt: Relatively neutral. She would look down on them a bit if they disrespect or are rude to the camp staff, or if shes heard of their troublemaker status in school (as the daughter of a schoolteacher shes nearly always on the teachers side). She probably wouldn't make much of a thing of it though, and would be polite or friendly if they actually approached her with a good attitude. She does think its unfair that a 14 year old gets to be taller than her though.

Diana: Chloe recognizes an angry person when she sees one. Of course that wont stop her trying to strike up a conversation, just that she needs to be smart about it. Whether or not shes managed to strike up a descent conversation depends on if shes ever seen Diana in a mood where she doesn't look like she wants to bite someones head off. If it hasn't happened yet then it might soon be time to bite the bullet and just go talk.
Chloe also finds some satisfaction being taller then her though.

Wendy: Seems like they could be friends. Chloe would have struck up a conversation almost immediately and tried to draw her out of her shell a bit.

Fiona: Fiona definitely gets some sympathy from Chloe. A reminder on how lucky she is to be able to keep human form (most of the time). Chloe would be friendly with her, and possibly willing to take on more snake like features when interacting with her if Chloe realized Fiona's aversion to more human looking people.

Kai: Happy enough to chat to her and on friendly terms, but Chloe will get the hell away if it looks like shes going to transform. The first time it happened Chloe ended up under her blankets for hours trying to correct her body temperature.

Ivan: Not sure here, no real impression yet unless they've had a conversation.

Penny: Very much interested in being friends. Chloe loves birds and is a tiny bit jealous that she didn't get a bird related power, though she is grateful that she can turn hers off (for the most part). The first meeting probably included the question 'Can i stroke your feathers?'.

Rosie: Easy friends if Rosie was interested.

Jesse: Uncertain, if he kept up the angry look then Chloe might have just kept away, but she is the sort to chat to anyone if they happen to be standing close.

As a whole Chloe will tend to small-talk with anyone, and she feels much more at home here after the treatment she got from the students at her College. She feels a bit of kin-ship with the bestial metahumans here, as they have the same problems as her, but worse.

In terms of relations with the other campers, Chloe isnt really comfortable near Kai when shes using her powers. The problem of being Ectothermic near an ice themed metahuman.

She would try to explain that it isn't personal though, just an unfortunate combination of powers.
