Appearance: Philip certainly must have been handsome at some point in his life, but this is not that point in life, his face is usually completely covered in bandages due to his face being covered in wounds. He is Caucasian and weak, if he was at highschool he'd probably be that one nerdy kid.
Almost his entire body is made out of metal, his right arm and left leg are both made out of metal and his eyes are replaced with mechanical ones, he almost always wears sunglasses in order to hide this. whatever body parts that aren't metal are usually covered in scars due to a landing incident.

Phillip knows two things in life, 1: He's going to die. 2: There's no afterlife. there's just the void. since he knows he's going to die anyways he is incredibly brave, he can stand infront of a tank because to him, he's already dead. He's just waiting for the "death" part to happen. He is very laid back and chill, it's very hard to get him to care passionately about anything and he can be very lazy. he is a hedonist and wants to cram as many pleasures into his life as he possibly can, I wouldn't trust him with my daughters that's for sure. Though he is brave he is, he is absolutely terrified of heights. If Philip know's he's going to die soon he'll start taking painkillers.
Philip is surprisingly optimistic however. his belief of the Emperor is questionable at best and he hates the Religious zealotry that overtook the Imperium, though he usually hides this fact to avoid a early grave. He can be very philosophical and tends to question everything. In our world he likely would've became a philosopher like Nietzsche.
While he is incredibly brave he lacks the will to resist other kinds of pressures, he can stand infront of a moving tank, he can't stand in front of a full bottle of alcohol/drugs. This can make it very easy to pressure him into doing certain things.
Background: Philip had a relatively unusual childhood. He studied hard in school to become a medic, he was full of spirit and energetic, ready to fight and die for the Emperor. as soon as he was old enough he enlisted in the PDF so he could make his dream of glorious wars come true. Then after a while of working on the PDF and training he was put in the guard, that was the happiest day of his life. Then the worst day of his life came right after. one day he had jumped out of a air plane in a military campaign, all was well until his grav-chute malfunctioned and broke, he splat right on the ground like a pancake and died.
When he died he found out that there was no afterlife at all, there was only the void.
Fortunately the Emperor was on his side because one of the other medics managed to bring him back to life, he lived but he had sustained a impressive injury, most of his limbs were gone and his face was malformed and hideous, it took him two years to fully heal. while he was carried off to the hospital he realized that although he had cheated death once, he would inevitably return to it. nothing in his life mattered at all because he was going to die anyways.

Personality/Demeanor: Maurice is the polar opposite of Philip, where Philip is nihilistic Maurice is hopefully optimistic and believes that he'll live forever, where Philip's belief to the Emperor is questionable Maurice is a complete zealot. There are two kinds of people in the world, People who should be purged and people who love the Emperor. Maurice is incredibly pious and chaste, it is nearly impossible to get him to drink a cup of amasec without him complaining that it's "heretical".
