2 1/2 hours in and I'm already done with the new year. T.T
Sorrin shook her head with a giggle, thinking to herself how silly it would sound if she started attaching a title such as 'Lady' to her name. Then it dawned on her that maybe Sia felt the same way she herself did about the title, after all it was one of those things someone else picked for you... Like a nickname that you can't quite stand.
"Fine, just Sia it is... But you have to admit 'Lady Sia' is pretty regal sounding, don't you think?." Her face lit up with laughter before she settled down to listen to Sia's answer. Sorrin could tell that the barren nature of Drakka bothered her some, but the way she spoke of her home held nothing but pride for the place. Closing her eyes, she could just about picture the land. The one thing she couldn't imagine, however, was the snow that Sia spoke of. It wasn't as if Sorrin had never seen snow before, but her Aunt's house was nestled in a valley that hardly ever got cold. And when it did, the snow would fall so lightly that it would melt upon touching the ground; never enough to pile in ways that Sia had just described. It sounded fascinating, and Sorrin couldn't wait to see such a sight.
Many of her Gemminite sisters might have thought her odd for wanting to see such a place, to leave all she knew behind to barrel toward an uncertain future. However, Sorrin had always been known for trying to escape her Aunt's overprotective grasp. She would return just before nightfall covered in bumps and bruises that she had spent all day collecting. It wasn't as if she was intentionally going out and being reckless, but if Sorrin saw something that caught her eye she could chase after it... Even if that thing were a single shadow, or the reflection from a pool it didn't matter. New was new, and she would take what she could get, even if were just a view of snow.
"I think someday Vivari and her sons might forgive one another, and when they do they'll heal all the lands that have been torn apart by their hatred for each other. Then everyone would be able to see the beauty Drakka has kept hidden away." Sorrin bore a faint smile on her face that quickly faded as she sighed.
"My Aunt thought I was silly for believing in such things... Pipe dreams she called them. But don't you think it would be nice to walk outside and see lush green for as far as your eyes can focus? Wind that didn't shriek with cold but sang of home? I think everyone deserves that, it's not fair that we hog it all to ourselves." If there were ever a moment that proved just how sheltered Sorrin actually was, this was probably one of them. But her naivety didn't keep her from storing away certain information about the man. Only then did she realize, from the way he spoke, that he wasn't actually Drakken... And that he may or may not have been a "good guy". He spoke like a spy, and according to the stories, spies weren't usually painted in a good light.
Fearful of getting Sia in trouble, Sorrin closed her mouth and waited for her reaction... After all, she knew nothing of the workings of Sia's estate. She might have been an equal in Sia's eyes, but Sorrin wasn't a strong mind when it came to the politics of a household name, so she would act accordingly by not speaking about it at all.
Kasari paused for a moment, having to lean back on her heels in order to see the giant's face. The bodyguard was an incredibly menacing man that caused her heart to skip a few beats out of fear of his approach. This in mind, she mulled the offer over in her head. She did like the idea of knocking the guards from earlier down a peg, but the sound of inflicting physical pain didn't quite appeal to her. Kasari might have been feisty, but a Gem was still a peace-preferring Gem... Most of the time. Nodding her head, Kasari finally made her decision.
"If it's not too much trouble, I think I will take you up on that offer. It's only fair considering what they've done, so if you'd be so kind Kzaar... I'd very much like to see how fast you can make those two cry." There was a knot in her gut telling Kasari that what she had asked for was in no way proper, but she was far from home and it wasn't exactly as if she were going to enjoy it. She saw it as just punishment for the sins they had already committed. A few shudder inducing images flashed through her mind, but Kasari shook them off and stood be her request stubbornly.
Her attention was suddenly nabbed by the Gem chosen before her, smiling with just as much amusement as before. She had to hold back laughter at the situation Zakroti had just put himself in. Should the pair not get along it would make things miserable for those around them whenever they were together however on the off chance that they did, and it certainly looked like it was going to be that way, Zakroti was going to be in for quite the surprise.
"Kasari Liesma, daughter of Pyrus. And I would be honored if we could work together on such a project. Perhaps you have some original pieces of your own that I could coergraph a dance around? " She asked Aymiria, falling easily into step behind the shifting group. From afar, Kasari could feel the eyes boring into her... A feeling that was anything but pleasant. Coming to stand before a Drakken who looked vastly more important than the others she had seen thus far, she found herself unable to look away from his judging gaze. Finally the tension broke a little bit as the man spoke, and despite not knowing a single word that was said, she could sense that they weren't particularly liked.
Sorrin: Speaking like the ditsy, sheltered child she is... Talking of pipe dreams and whatnot about world prosperity and things. Just realized Valence wasn't Drakken, a step behind but catching up.
Kasari: Has agreed to let bodyguard go scare some manners into the goons who bruised her arms, and to someday dance to Miry's flute playing.
In the process of writing a post but I don't think it will get finished tonight. I still have research to do for a class discussion we're having in Sociology tomorrow morning.... Fun -_-
Oh I'm sorry I was referring to your foster father since he was a Grave Keeper.
You know, I was thinking about that in the shower. I was like "hmmm, that awkward moment when Nova has two dead dads and Libby probs picked the wrong one." XD
Yeah, knowing him would have been cool too. Just ignore me and my silliness.
It would be cool if your character knew him, considering she has very little clue as to anything about her family. Her foster parents didn't even tell her that her mother was a witch, so.... XD Could present itself as an interesting window into her past for her depending on how much your character knew about him and his lover.
I mean considering we'll end up at B anyway, I don't think we necessarily have to start at A... Just write your first impressions into your first response as well as your character's reactions to the Headmaster's welcome speech.
Super excited for this. I cannot wait to see the interactions between the characters and their Guardians! Ooooooh I can't wait for this to start, the hype is real.
@WeepingLiberty I feel like I've seen that character image before... have we role played before? Something about exploring a new land I think? Correct me if I'm wrong but I know I've seen that image before.
I don't know. You're username rings a bell but if we did RP it must have been from my early days here. Other than that, the face claim probably wasn't me... I've only recently strayed away from my usual character type, so playing a blonde is a rare thing for me.
Appearance: With most of her height being in her legs, Nova stands at an average height of 5'10". For obvious reasons she keeps herself toned and combat-ready, however she naturally retains a meatier curve especially in her hip and thigh areas. She has long blonde hair that reaches to the small of her back if she kept it down, but for the most part she keeps the bulk tied back in a bun or ponytail. Not caring much for her outward appearances, Nova can be found wearing the same thing in public that she would wear when working: All black and rather menacing. This include light-weight and form fitting cloth material that more often than not has tears from previous fights, and a hooded cloak that covers her face when drawn. The only thing metallic she wears are a pair of boots, which makes her approach just as intimidating as her glare. In addition to a rather dark choice in color pallet, Nova's night shifts have led to her having a rather pale complexion that somewhat resembled the creatures she's sworn to fight.
Backstory: Nova's very existence is considered a bit of an "embarrassment" to the image of the City Guard. The son of one of their prominent members fell in love and eloped with a witch by the name of Salahyna. Planning to take advantage of this situation, the witch began plotting a robbery of the cemetery hidden beneath the city with her coven. These plans changed however when she found herself pregnant with Nova. Double crossing her partners in crime, Salahyna begged for asylum and protection but before her lover could explain the situation to his father, the man was murdered by her former comrades. Blowing the wistle on her abilities, Salahyna had to go into hiding from both the city's soldiers and her angry pursuers until Nova was born. Seeing no other choice, Salahyna left her newborn child in the care of a family who had been struggling to have a child. Leaving in a hurry, Salahyna gifted but a single necklace and a name to the girl before departing, never to be seen or heard from again.
Growing up with her foster family, Nova's only clue to her past was the odd necklace her mother gave her. Despite its creepy nature, Nova still wore it every day to stay close to a life she had never know. Her foster family wasn't rich by any means, but they got by somehow, maintaining their long-lived traditions as Grave Keepers. Having no son of their own, her foster father raised her as if she had been a boy, training her in preparation for a job that no one wanted. Like many a Grave Keeper her foster father eventually passed away in an attack leaving Nova to take his place to support her foster mother, whose health had been declining over the years. Ever since Nova started actually going into town to get groceries and medicine for her foster mother, she's found herself facing the ridicule of actual City Guardsmen despite having no idea why.
Equipment: Necklace:She always wears her mother's necklace despite how creepy it is. She'll hide it when in public but doesn't bother when working. The green gem set in the design will start to glow if Nova is near the effects of magic, specifically a Necromancer's work. The brighter the light, the closer the source.
Weapons:Nova is partial to a long scythe, feeling it sets the mood better for her line of work. That and it scares the hell out of the living. She also keeps a dagger sheathed in her right boot.
City Required:A shovel kept in perfect shape (cause what come's up must eventually return to its grave...) and the standard uniform (that she'll wear like once in her life).
Other: Fastened around her waist is a satchel that she houses sweets in. She has a bit of an addiction to candies of all types.
She's a work in progress at the moment, got asked to stay a little longer than usual while babysitting. Possibly thinking about making another character as well too, but we'll see after she's complete.
