Hanging high above the deck, Marc had just finished inspecting the sail when the Captain yelled everyone on to deck. With a seemingly disregard for his own life he let go of the rope he was hanging onto, dropping several meters before grabbing the rope again, thankful for his gloves that prevented rope-burns. Within several seconds Marc dropped down on the deck, right next to the Abigail.

"The rigging is knot-free and the sail is perfectly in order, not even the slightest tear is to be seen." Marc reported to the Captain. "I also checked the hull. It's so watertight not even Flynn would be able to find an opening to flirt." He joked. Since he had joined the crew, he had given a status report to the Captain. He had no idea whether she even cared for his daily update, but she hadn't told him to shut up about it either. For Marc it was both a matter of pride in his craftsmanship and a remainder of his routine from his time as a marine.

He stared at the port, excited to soon be on his way to the Grand Line. He itched to see more of the world, and especially in the Grand Line there would be many marvellous sights to behold. His motivations were probably miles away from his fellow crew members, as he wasn't after treasure, fame or power, but merely wanted to see the world and take care of a ship.
On second thought, I'm afraid I have to drop out. I can't keep up with it at the moment. Still, I enjoyed reading it, so I'll be keeping it on watch. :)
Assuming it's probably a ship that's mainly proppeled by wind and water an engine room seems a bit abundant to me. I take it we have a couple of cabins for crewmembers to sleep. The cargo bay also seems as an important area to me.
Sorry everyone, I've been very busy the past few days. I'll have a post tomorrow.
Name: Marc Willems
Alias: Receptor
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Appearance: Marc is 1.86 meters tall (6'11") and has an average build, not muscular, but not fat or slim either. He has short brown hair and his eye colour is grey. He has a smooth pale skin as it is seldom exposed to the sun. He has a strong jawline and rather heavy eyebrows. Not much is seen of this because he covers nearly everything of his body to reduce external stimuli. He wears usually wears jeans and a hoodie with the hood over his neck. His hands are covered by rather thick gloves. He also wears a linen scarf, most of the time this is pulled up to cover his nose. He always wears sunglasses to reduce the brightness of the light and noise-cancelling headphones.

Powers:
  • Super sight: He is able to see with enhanced clarity, detail and frequency, as well from a greater distance. With much concentration he is able to zoom in on objects, magnifying them. He's also able to see a bit into the ultra-violet and infra-red spectrum. His field of view is also a it larger than than of a normal human and is able to see very well in the dark.
  • Super hearing: His hearing is able to pick up very soft sounds and he has a very wide range of frequencies he can listen too, even radio. With much concentration he is able to pick out one sound and focus on it.
  • Super smell: Marc's sense of smell is so advanced he is able to track and trace smells more efficient than a blood hound.
  • Super taste: Marc can taste traces that are usually only found by analytical machines and deduct the composition of it.
  • Super touch: With this Marc can feel the slightest changes in pressure, including those through air and is able to sense very precisely the temperature of faraway objects.
  • Super balance: Marc has an excellent sense of balance.
  • Super reflexes: Not only his sensory nerve system has a mutation, his motoric nerve system has too. His reflexes are near instantaneous.
  • Super muscle control/dexterity: Marc is very precise and never shakes. He is able to move every consciously controlled muscle exactly as he wants to. This includes his vocal cords, allowing him to reach otherwise inaccessible frequencies and volumes. It also makes him an excellent voice impersonator and ventriloquist.
  • Improved pain resistance: While nowhere near 'enhanced' levels, Marc is able to deal very effectively with pain, because of his constant exposure to it. Rarely, in moments of great concentration or stress he is able to shut it off.

The downside to this all is that he can't control any of it. He is not able to power down and is constantly bombarded with sensory input. This gives him very heavy headaches. He's also very sensitive to everything, walking past a thrash bin might make him throw up, flash-bangs and the like will render him unconscious due to exposure. Even a slight breeze on exposed skin is able to hurt Marc.

Bio: Marc was born and raised in a medium-sized town. The first signs of his mutation started to show when he first stood up to walk. While most small children often fall, Marc had never fallen due to the mutation of his sense of balance. While this was extra-ordinary, no one was concerned with this. During his entire childhood Marc had a slight advantage of his enhanced senses and movements. Around his twelfth he started hearing sounds and seeing stuff and colours no-one else did. A year later he started hearing voices, picking up parts of radio transmissions. From there on it all went down-hill. He kept getting more stimuli and pain to go with this. He started to isolate himself from others to reduce the pain. It was only recently Marc figured out he was a mutant and enrolled in the Mutant College of Liberty and Equality.

Other: Marc is addicted to paracetamol because this numbs his senses.
As Angelo shot his gun, Marc suppressed his reflexes to take cover as it was a part of the morning routine. On his first morning on the ship he had made a bit of a fool of himself as he immediately had jumped for cover and pulled his gun. Nowadays Angelo's morning shot was more of an annoyance than a threat to Marc. Still, he toyed with the idea of booby trapping the Cannon area to see how much Angelo would appreciate it if Marc put his own skills to work to 'make everyone alert'. There was a great spot near the door for...

His train of thought was interrupted as a man fell out of a closet it the kitchen. He glanced over to see an obviously drunk man claiming ownership of the ship. Marc shook his head and continued with his breakfast, listening to the flirting of Flynn, Angelo's mock complaining and general conversations. When the captain started speaking to her crew about the change of plans, Marc started to mentally make a check-list of the components of the ship he wanted to make sure were in working order before setting sail.

He turned towards Sierra to give a quick recap of Abigail's plan. "We've found ourselves a new navigator sleeping in one of the closets... We're setting sail for the Grand Line in two hours, so everything has to be ready by then." As Marc stood up from his chair he turned his attention to the cook. "Thanks for the breakfast, Simona, it was delicious as usual." He finished his drink in one gulp and headed up to deck to do his morning inspection.
Unaware of his surroundings, Marc was hammering at a piece of metal. The rhythmic sound of his hammer hitting the plate had a clouding effect on his mind. He found it amusing the sound of his work resembled the barking of a dog, perhaps even an wolf. It dawned on him he did in fact hear the barking sound of a wolf and awoke from his sleep. The captain had a habit of letting her pet wolf wake up hew crew, of which Marc was now part of it. About a month ago he joined this pirate crew, led by a young red-headed woman called Abigail. There were still a few things he had to get used to, it was a unique crew he signed up with, but he fit in nicely and was content.

His thoughts were disturbed by the sound of a 200 pound canine hitting his cabin door. The wood creaked underneath the weight of the wolf and Marc grimaced, he didn't like it when parts of the ships were abused. "Yeah, yeah, I'm up!" Marc shouted to Fenris and he swung out of his hammock. One thing he had learned here was to wake up immediately when told to. That wolf had demonstrated once that it was able to break through the door, and Marc was in no hurry to let that happen again. He quickly changed into his clothes and splashed some fresh water in his face to wake up.

He walked through his cabin door and quickly inspected it, noticing no sign of damage. You could say what you want, but the wolf was properly trained and seemed to know it's strength. He headed towards the messdeck for breakfast. Opening the door he saw the cook, Simona, the doctor, Flynn, and of course the captain. "Morning Cap'n, Simona, Doc." he said, nodding to each on of them. "Any particular reason we're up so early?" He asked, while motioning to a window. "Sun's barely even up. If you don't mind me asking." He added, while sitting down in one of the chairs while grabbing a piece of fruit from the bowl.
I'm interested for sure.
Name: Marc de Ruyter

Age: 26

Role on the ship: Engineer: Shipwright/blacksmith/maintaince

Abilities and skills: Marc is a great craftsman and engineer. His creativity and out of the box thinking allow his to come up with solutions that are able to fix nearly everything. He has a keen eye for weak spots, which is not only limited to material and structural weaknesses, but also to injuries in persons and openings in defences. His fighting skills are average at best, but he is able to handle himself in a fight. His fighting style is mainly defensive while waiting for an opening. He's also adept at fighting with his tools.

Equipment: Marc's main weapons are a standard issue marine-style cutlass and standard issue flintlock pistol. Other than this he has a tool belt with an assortment of tools, including, but not limited to, hammers, wrenches, saws, nails, chisels, ropes and flask with some rum or beer. He also has a toolbox, with even more tools, but he usually leaves this in his cabin.

Personality: Marc is a nice guy. He's usually in for a chat, especially over a pint of ale. He's clever and creative. He's not one for violence or fighting and prefers to keep his head cool and talk things out. That is, until someone messes with his works, be it the ship or some other project. He's very protective of his friends and ship. He isn't impressed nor fooled easily and likes to figure out how things work. He likes to maintain and improve the ship. In his spare time he likes to read books or drink and play dice or cards.

Background: Marc was born and raised in a small city as the son of a blacksmith and carpenter. His youth was rather normal, without many exciting events and he was taught the skills of blacksmithing and carpeting by his father and mother. At his twelfth he signed up with the marines and gained further training in these disciplines, along with combat training. When he graduated he was given his cutlass and pistol. He expected to work on a ship, but instead he was kept on shore, designing and repairing ships. After complaining about this, he was bullied into staying, the officer threatening to kill his parents. This continued for several years, until he heard his parents died in a bandit raid. Angered because of this loss and the inadequacy of the marines he sabotaged some the ships he was working on, killed the officer, stole a small ship and deserted. He ended up setting up a shipyard for pirates, repairing ships for a fee. Yet the longing for the sea remained. Eventually the ship of Abigail moored in need of repair. Marc was impressed by the quality of the ship. During this time marines raided the shipyard. With the help of Abigail and her crew they fought them off, but the shipyard was destroyed. Without a reason to stay, Marc joined the crew as the shipwright.
