Sucks when two of three characters are dependent of responses.
Depends if he used his vampire years to advance his abilities. WHich would be very hard

And the analogy I'd use would be a hiltless blade

Oh, so it's a matter of specialization than. That makes some sense. Also Witch, generally speaking, does everyone have a certain "Specialization" towards certain magic, or is more like "You'll be able to do whatever you bother to put your time and effort into" sort of deal?

Little bit of both. With enough time, you are able to have a wide assortment of spells such as with RUmiko whose character has lived 300 years and is reasonable that she can do the sorts of spells she has.

Specialization will let you stack up on more spells of similar nature faster than being more versatile. Nothing is stopping you from learning fire magic and how to induce laughter. Just needs the time and focus.

Similar to how a heavy weight boxer body builder (earth magic) can still learn ballet(water magic). Just might be a tad harder due to his big and less than graceful bulk.

For instance his magic is doing pretty good right now, since Night Lurkers are creatures of Darkness. Unfortunately it's also effecting him.How long would you say It'll take to develop his unique fire magic based on his Sun magic? I'd say a week or so.

Night lurkers are more like sensitive to light in general. Blinded and the such.

But a week of studying and practicing a fire based sun magic is quite reasonable

Gonna work on the post now. More Lurkers, mysterious presence etc. Everyday Fantasy stuff
Fire and Sun magic won't be hard due to their commonality.
Alrighty. I'll whip up something. Since annabeth went to bed broken down, the knife is still in his possession
Yet to do so.
So there was just a time skip now to the next day?
Learning magic is mostly done under the guidance of official teachers. Collages to temper the talents. Though you can learn by yourself which is lack luster compared to official training. You can train under a master of any kind though. Rogue wizard or the such. Thalen learned from his elders.

Learning new magic can go through reading old tomes of magic which explain the fundamentals of the spell or, through trial and error mostly, come up with a new spell yourself.

Edit: Learning a spell that is very different from the sort of magic you know is difficult. Haklo will have a hard time to learn a fireball spell due to his use of mental magics
Alrighty. Understandable. A little show of abilities for the future.
