Actually, I did that because the character was threatening people, something good guys don't do, and he kinda offended her, besides, she is gonna reverse it once they are heading out.

Yes, but with Magic Lightning, it would Lightning with magic in it
It is still lightning, and Magic is Energy, so he would be able to absorb it, but it would also be very unstable if the caster lost control of it.

But, Virgil would still be able to manipulate it, to some extent
