Life was once perfect. The humans, the environment, and Pokemon were in perfect balance. Sure, many tried to tip the balance one way or another, but brave trainers always righted it. At least, as much as they could...Too many imbalances took the Surface from us.
Something went wrong with the Legendary pokemon. They came out of hiding and fought with everyone. Trainers, wild pokemon, even people without any pokemon fell to their angry attacks. The bravest of trainers investigated every possible lead--old Team Rocket tricks, the newer but still deadly Team Plasma, and imbalances with our neighboring dimensions. But, they found no conclusive evidence for any of their ideas. Finally, they decided to team up and take down the legendaries once and for all.
That was a huge mistake. Yes, every legendary was killed, and they could no longer attack us humans, but the balance of life was permanently tipped in the humans favor. Soon the weather grew out of control. People became sluggish, depressed shells of their former emotions. Wild pokemon violently attacked humans and pokemon alike. It became dangerous to go outside, so many stockpiled all the supplies they could get and holed up in their homes. Finally the government issued an emergency evacuation from the surface. A sandstorm as big as the Red Spot on Jupiter was due to hit Kanto in five days, and nobody could breathe in that. So, the government poured all of its money and resources into the Magnet Train line. Those subways stretch over every region, and can hold over three hundred thousand people. With everyones stored supplies and the governments money, the population of every region could live there. And, we did! For thirty-five years we lived there.
And now, in Station 5, or Neo Saffron, the first Station-raised generation is ready to go to the surface. Most trainers like to make their Journey around the surface, scrounging for supplies, rare pokemon, and any treasures left, before they return to the station and officially start their life as an adult. Trainers have to be fiveteen to get their license, as wild pokemon are stronger than before, and life can be brutal on the Surface. Only experienced trainers who were old enough to remember life Before the Sandstorm have gone up now. They say Nature is still brutal, and the legendaries are still gone. There are bandits, angry wild pokemon, and crazy storms. But, there are also supplies left free for the taking, migrating tribes, and traveling merchants with all sorts of rarities, like chocolate and pokemon eggs. It's a true adventure just waiting for us to experience it!
NOTES ON THE WORLD
New Kanto, as the former Kanto region is known, encompasses the same land as before. New Kanto is divided into two areas: the Surface and the Stations. The former residents of Kantos many cities, minus Pallet Town and Lavender Town, took refuge from the Sandstorm by hiding in the Magnet Train's tunnels. Now each city is known by its station name: Station 1 Viridian City, Station 2,Pewter City, Station 3 Cerulean City, Station 4 Celadon City, Station 5 Saffron City, Station 6 Vermillion City, and Station 7 Cinnabar City. These stations are bustling, full of shops, neighborhoods, schools, and gyms, with new gym leaders. Most of our characters are from Station 5.
Now, the Surface is very dangerous. The weather is still crazy, changing with the hour. Aggressive pokemon are everywhere. Lavender Town is a wasteland. Some migrant groups leave around the area, but it's basically turned into a literal graveyard. The older trainers who still remember the Pokemon Tower come here to bury their pokemon. Some humans are buried, too, but the ghosts of the pokemon don't like that practice too much.
Pallet Town still has the same name. Now it's a much larger city, with stone walls to block out the nonstop sands from Route 1, a new desert. Pallet Town's residents either left for the Stations or held their ground. The ones that stayed became the leaders of a small city-state, with its own government, land, and bartering economy. Nearly all the safe traders come from Pallet Town, peddling their crops and whatever goods the trainers found on their journeys. Some of our characters can come from here, but they will not start with as many pokeballs as the Station 5 characters, and will not receive a Pokedex.
Pokemon are also divided into two groups; aggressive and trained. Trained pokemon are owned by a trainer (duh) and are safe for humans to be around. Wild, aggressive pokemon are not safe at all. The higher level they are, the more dangerous. It's common for people to fight a high-level wild and receive injuries, or even die. If caught, an aggressive pokemon can be calmed, as long as the trainer in question is skilled. Some wild pokemon are more safe, but the pokemon that are known for being aggressive anyway, such as Nidoking and Nidoqueen, might just chase a trainer across the countryside.
Note: pokemon do not say their name over and over. They say appropriate noises based on their mouth and influences. (Like, Pikachu, the mouse, makes cute lil' squeaky noises.) That crap makes me mad.
I have selected the legendary pokemon available based on their interaction with the Pokemon world. Our characters are supposed to restore the balance of their planet by raising their legendary pokemon to their former strength. But, there are a lot of legendaries, and some of them don't even impact the world, such as Mewtwo and Genesect. Therefore, I have cut them out of the race. The legendaries that are not chosen may be found as wild pokemon during the RP, but may not be caught.
This roleplay is more gritty than the anime and games. More like the manga, if you guys have read it.
This section will grow as I answer questions and put that info here.
RULES
Be nice, obey the GM, site rules, blah blah blah.
I'll set the limit on characters to two for now. If we have a hard time recruiting more members, than the limit will be upped to four. This is so that each legendary will be chosen.
