Phoebe Jones was a devout atheist (for lack of a better term) before taking this job. She's greatly interested in legends and myths, from ancient legends and folklore to modern religion. She attributes human's many superstitions to our nature: we are afraid of the unknown, so he invented stories to fill in the gaps. Science manages to do this, so science slowly replaces our legends. Why does the sun rise and set? Not because of a fiery chariot, or the steady push of a scarab beetle, but rather because the Earth moves. Her interest in the mind inspired her to obtain a Master's in Evolutionary Psychology. She wrote a book on the psychology of superstition, which one of the top researchers in the Foundation read. Of course, many of her theories were wrong, but her process was sound, and she wasn't a bad writer. That researcher approached her with a job. At first, she thought the man was joking. She played along with the "joke" and accepted. He gave her the location of the headquarters, and she arrived to find a legitimate business. She didn't believe until she saw "the bump in the night" pacing around in its cell.

Phoebe's just trying to see what's going on in there, and might get attacked if the shamblers are aggressive. That's all I had planned, for now.

Champions of Engine City

It had been two weeks since the villain known as Tox spontaneously exploded in the middle of a upper-middle class neighborhood. That was normal in a city full of so-called "superheros" and "supervillains." What wasn't normal is that Tox never regenerated. Instead, his "suicide bombing" infected dozens of regular citizens and slowly melted their skin off, resembling irradiated zombies. One of the newest resident superheros to Engine City wanted to help, but couldn't. At least, not from her Engine City University dorm room.

We can't go in there. It's a quarantine zone! We have no idea if this infection is contagious. Sraif "spoke". The small iridescent alien was half of the superhero Symbiont, and the source of Symbiont's powers. Phoebe was the body of Symbiont, an average 24-year-old human.

Phoebe pursed her lips. Sraif was currently inside her head, and undoubtedly felt the movement. Exactly. It's a quarantine zone. Nobody knows anything, even the doctors who are supposed to be watching the infected. They're too scared to get close and risk infection. We need to go in there, figure out what's going on, if there are any uninfected, and hell, if this is even a disease of just little bits of Tox f***ing with people. Phoebe "said" that to Sraif, thinking fast, imagining the faraway glimpses of infected zombie-people on the news, with the melted face and shambling gait. Phoebe was too new to this job to fight Tox, but she had heard of him and did a bit of research recently to learn about his MO. Suicide-bombing a neighborhood didn't quite fit with his profile. She was very curious, and to be honest, a little selfish. If Symbiont solved this on her own, Symbiont would become famous overnight. A new favorite superhero, one that fights with her own fists like a bada**!

Phoebe felt a wave of annoyance overcome her. Those were Sraif's feelings. The alien let her feelings show through to make them bluntly clear. You know I won't stop you, but I won't actively participate in this...tomfoolery.

Phoebe grinned and leapt off her couch. Underneath her crappy dorm room furniture was a loose floorboard where she stored her Symbiont costume. Phoebe didn't have one of those "fancy-shmancy underwear suits" as she dubbed the spandex costumes. She had a bright red turtleneck sweater, a ski mask with eye and mouth holes, thick gray sweatpants, and cheap steel-toed work boots. The costume was warm and protected her identity, so she didn't bother with a pretty one.

Phoebe quickly put the costume on and looked out her window. No one around. She climbed out, shut it once more, and ran through the night.

Name - Phoebe Jones and Sraif (Sr-ay-ff)
Alias - Symbiont ("An organism living in a state of symbiosis".)
Age - Phoebe is 24. Sraif's age is unknown, but she claims to be an adult.
Powers - Phoebe is an ordinary human with no powers. All of her "powers" come from Sraif and "her" ability to amplify the host's natural abilities. Her powers include heightened sight, touch, smell, and taste, heightened reflexes, heightened strength and speed, near-perfect memory (which is actually just Sraif "flipping" through Phoebe's memory like a book) a high resistance to pain, and a telekinetic/energy shield around Phoebe. Sraif and Phoebe are connected telepathically, and Sraif can communicate to others with telepathy while out of Phoebe's body.
Weaknesses - Electricity--it can kill Sraif in a second. Also, Phoebe's left ear is useless--that's Sraif's way in and out of her head.
Personality - Phoebe's energetic, a joker, and loves to compete. Sraif is calm, collecting, and honest. (An "old soul", Phoebe says.)

BRIEF Bio - Phoebe was an average Psych major at (INSERT LOCAL PUBLIC COLLEGE NAME HERE) when the latest weird catastrophe happened. A piece of "space junk"--as the local media deemed the unrecognizable hunk of metal--crashed in a nearby lake. A good bit of water turned to steam and created some hot fog on campus. Of course, everyone ran out of their classes to see what happened. In the chaos, Sraif managed to swim out of the lake and take over the body of a stray dog. Using the dog as a hiding place, Sraif escaped the "scene of the crime" and ran into the city. Phoebe and Sraif's paths crossed many times, until Sraif took her chance and leapt from the dog's ear to Phoebe's. She forced Phoebe to sleep and told her everything; that she fell out of orbit while observing humans for her thesis (Sraif was working towards a degree in Exobiology.) and crash-landed on Earth, that her species could not survive on their own, and that the dog was an unsuitable host and she really did not want to force her will onto another being. In the dream-state, Phoebe agreed, and after a few shaky weeks of coexistence, they became best friends, and started to fight crime.
Notes - Phoebe uses no weapons, and her costume is a red turtleneck, black ski mask (with holes for eyes and mouth), and sweatpants. She beats up criminals with her bare hands.

Sraif is a small, iridescent alien resembling a three-inch long slug. Her species descended from symbiotic invertebrae that "bond" with larger animals by entering their skull through the ear canal. They then lay on the brain and form a telepathic connection, allowing the alien to feel what their host feels and see what their host sees. Without a brain, or a very similar environment, Sraif's species will die. The host gains a friend and the ability to use their body in ways they never could before. Sraif's species has a name which sounds a lot like someone whistling. The species can forcefully take over another, but it requires effort, and is a HUGE cultural taboo, akin to assault or molestation on Earth,
