a Burst Melee with the crutch named 'Flash'

Nonononono, it's called 'Blink, ' see? It's completely different. Trust me, I'm a professional :^).

In all seriousness though, I do find it bland and unoriginal, but it was the best I could think of when posting.
I'll see if I can't come up with something more interesting after my classes are done.
Toma Tanaka - Warakuma Shopping Mall

Toma listened intently to everything Kotori said, committing to memory the places she pointed out. Despite any other motives he may have had for asking her to help him, he really did need to get familiar with his new surroundings - and besides, he liked the sound of her gentle voice.

She asked him if there was anything else he needed to get, and he thought about it as he looked around the mall's entrance.

"I guess some supplies for school would be a good idea, since I'll need them for tomorrow," he said, scratching the back of his neck.

A sweet smell caught his attention, and caused his stomach to rumble. Further into the mall, he spotted a donut shop, and realized he hadn't eaten since breakfast. Donut's probably weren't the best thing to replace his lunch, but his mind was already made up.

"Hey, Shirohane-san, what's your favorite kind of donut?" he asked as he took a few steps backwards towards the shop, signalling his intention to head over.
I wrote up my character's personality and backstory, so I think it's ready for judging.

Toma relaxed upon hearing Shirohane agree to help. He flashed her a bright smile to convey his appreciation.

She then asked if he had anything to do at the school before they left. He looked at the school as he quickly made his choice. She was kind enough to help him out when she had no obligation to, and there was no telling how long it'd take him to find his teachers and speak with them. There was no sense in making her wait.

"Nah, we can head off," he said as he turned towards her, once again wearing his easy smile. "I was just sort of going to check the school out - it can wait 'til tomorrow."

He motioned towards the street, saying "After you."
Mm, that reminds me, I need a class for Toma. Guess I should go searching for the list to see which one has the lowest amount of characters in it.

EDIT: 3 - 3 looks like the best bet, from what I can tell.

"Ah- Tanaka Toma," he said with a small bow, returning her greeting. "Nice to meet you, Shirohane-san. And I'm fine - I've taken worse hits." As he said this, he caught a glance of the paper's contents - it was a grocery list. Upon seeing this, Toma realized his new home had no food in it. On top of that, neither he nor his parents had had lunch; they'd be starving once they woke up. The least he could do was get them some instant noodles or something.

The train of thought brought him to another realization: he had no idea where anything was in this town.

He was at a crossroad: he could either use the legitimate excuse of him being new to ask a cute girl if she could show him where the grocery store was, possibly spend more time with her, and potentially be introduced to other students that she knew. Or, he could go meet with a bunch of stuffy teachers and be forced to explain his situation to each and every one of them.

The ideal choice was clear. He could just phone or e-mail the teachers, anyway - a little less personal, maybe, but it'd work.

Toma decided it was worth a shot.

"Are you going grocery shopping?" he asked. A faint, sheepish smile formed on his face, as he leaned into another small bow. "I'd hate to be a burden, but could I ask you to show me the way to the grocery store? My family just moved here today from Osaka - I kind of don't know where anything is."

The boy thought he felt himself turn the lightest shade of pink, causing him to internally kick himself. There was no reason to be embarrassed; he was simply asking for some help. The worst that could happen was that she said no - in that case, he'd just continue with his original, admittedly boring, plans.

The whole moving deal had taken a lot more out of Toma than the boy had originally realized. As he moved through the crowd, a tree in the distance caught his eye, for no reason in particular. He stared at it dully, spacing out.

It took a collision with another person to bring him back awake, and even then, he reacted slowly.

His eyes moved to the girl he had run into. He saw her snatch a piece of paper out of the air, which he had presumably caused her to drop. Before he could say anything, she bowed and apologized.

This took Toma by surprise, moreso than the collision itself. In his old city, he would have likely just received a dirty look, before being brushed off without a second thought.

He couldn't help but let out a small laugh before saying "I'm the one who should be sorry. I'm sort of going the wrong way, after all. You all right?"

He then eyed the paper she held in her hand, curious. "Nice catch, by the way." he said with an easy smile, nodding towards the paper. "Where'd you pick those reflexes up?"

His mother would have scolded him for trying to make conversation, especially with someone who looked like they had things to do. She would have said something along the lines of "She didn't run into you because she wanted to chitchat, she ran into you by mistake. Say you're sorry and let her be on her way."

But he wanted to get to know the people he'd be surrounded by for the next year, and it was best to start doing that sooner rather than later.
Noboru is solid muscle, no way he'd go down that easy.

Anyways, if no one's writing a response to Takaru's post right now, I'd like to. I've got the time, and Toma needs something more interesting to do than talking to teachers.

Delays. Delays were unfavorable. Downright annoying, actually. Flight delays, moving truck delays, traffic delays - all of it piled together and had caused Toma and his family to arrive a full day late, which in turn meant that he had missed his first day of school.

His new school, no less, which only made it worse. A new school meant completely new faces, and being surrounded by unfamiliarity was not something Toma was used to. He had known everyone at his previous school, and had been known by everyone. He had been the guy who greeted new students and helped them get their feet on the ground. Now he would be that new student, showing up after the year had already started.

The tall teen had never been one to get nervous, but that idea definitely discomforted him.

Toma grunted as he picked up another box. I see mom remembered to pack the anvils, he thought as he struggled with it.

He carried it past his father, who was sleeping on the couch, and into the room that would eventually be the old man's work space. He set the box down carefully, before cutting the tape and opening it. Inside was his father's paperweight collection, meticulously packed to minimize chance of damage. Toma stared at it disapprovingly; it was such a stupid thing to collect. But, for whatever reason, it made his father happy.

The boy sighed as he began the tedious work of carefully unwrapping every paperweight and placing it on the desk he had set up a few minutes earlier. He eventually unwrapped one that actually belonged to him. It was a small, crude, iron balance scale. His father had given it to him, saying it was thanks for being the one who kept the family in balance through their recent difficult times. Toma thought it had been a silly sentiment, as he hadn't done much, but he accepted it nonetheless. Setting the scale aside, he continued unpacking the rest of the weights.

Toma stared at the mess that was his new home. He had been unpacking for hours now, yet cardboard boxes and random items still littered the entire space. It didn't help that he had been alone with the job - both of his parents had conked out the instant they had finished moving all the boxes from the truck into the house.

He was just as tired as they were, but he didn't sleep until his body shut down and forced him to. That was probably unhealthy, but it was the only way he had enough time in a day to do everything he wanted. The routine had been working out so far.

Focusing back on the mess, Toma shook his head. With no friends to hang out with, no school work to do, and no sports to play, he had nothing to do. Even the internet connection wasn't up yet, so he couldn't play any games on his computer. He had never had so little to do in his life, which is why he had been reduced to unpacking to fill his time.

Well, he had decided that he had had enough of that. The most productive thing he could do with his time was to get outside and become acquainted with his new town. While on that train of thought, he decided to head to the school. The day may have been almost over, but hopefully he could find some of his teachers, greet them, and explain why he had missed his classes - that way, their first impression of him wouldn't be that he was some sort of slacker-delinquent.

Happy that he had something to do, Toma grabbed his track jacket and walked outside.

Warakuma High - Front Entrance

Toma arrived at the school's front entrance, noting the stream of kids pouring out. He inspected the building briefly; it was far smaller than his old school, but it seemed interesting enough. It'd be a change of pace, at the very least, and that was the entire reason his family had moved.

Now his task was to figure out who his teachers were. Since it was the first day, there had to be class lists posted somewhere - he just had to find that, and then hopefully catch his teachers before they left. If he missed them, the effort would have been for nothing, but it was better than unpacking boxes alone.

Wearing a small smile, he carefully began to weave his way through the crowd that flowed against him.
