Toma Tanaka - Warakuma Highschool | April 10th
His first week in town had gone well. He'd spoken with nearly everyone in his class, and seemed to be liked well enough by them all. It seemed like it'd only be a matter of time until he was as familiar with the student population as he had been at his old school.

Toma finished off his notes for the class as he listened to Aiko.

"Yeah, sure, let's head out," he replied, putting away his books. He then remembered that he did have a meeting today. "Oh, actually, I've got Track club today..." He mused over it for a moment, before continuing. "I could probably get out early though, if I tell the leader that I'll practice on my own later tonight."

Toma looked at Aiko with an apologetic smile. "You might be better off finding someone else to spend time with today, but If you don't mind waiting around for a half hour, I'll be able to join you."
Izumi Yuna

The girl Yuna had spoken to was clearly not happy about having to stay back -- something Yuna completely understood.

"Eh-heh, I guess we'll find out soon,"

More and more people eventually entered the room. All girls, Yuna noted with curiosity.

Next to enter, breaking the trend, was a man who seemed to be in his early twenties. He implied that he knew why the girls had been gathered, but said he would not be explaining anything. Yuna was now uncertain about what was going on -- this was unlike any other time she had stayed after school.

The man placed a box of sweets on a table next to Yuna, but they didn't particularly interest her. Her eyes were busy dancing around the room, memorizing the faces of the girls that surrounded her and trying to figure out why they were here.

Finally, an older woman entered the room. After a quick greeting, she dropped the bombshell -- they were somehow getting involved with SEED.

Yuna's mind raced. in the midst of her worry, she noticed that the box of sweets was gone... and munching noises coming from under the table.

She bent over, to take a look. A very young girl sat, shoving food into her mouth.

"Oh! Hello sweetie," she said, surprised. Kneeling down, she offered her hand to the child and gave her a soft, reassuring smile. "It looks cramped under there."

It was then that Yuna noticed the other young girl entering the room, stammering nervously and looking distraught. Yuna frowned. SEED apparently wanted the girls, for whatever reason. It was already strange that they were all only high-schoolers, but the two youngest could only be in elementary.

What could SEED possibly need with elementary-aged children.

Holding the hand of the girl who sat under the table, Yuna addressed the man and woman. "These two aren't supposed to be here, right?" she said, gesturing to the young girls, still wearing a slight frown.

Thomas' excitement at the opportunity quickly turned into panic as pain ripped through his hand. He grimaced and flinched, but made sure to do no more than that. He had already created an image of himself for the people around him -- someone who was calm and in control. Breaking that now would do no good.

So instead he swallowed his panic and slammed his fist into the ground, in an attempt to rattle off whatever was latched onto him. It didn't work, and before he could try again, another creature in the cocoon made it's presence known, in the best way possible. Through the holes, Thomas could see a long, slender animal -- the one that was biting him -- being attacked by a furry one. He felt the pressure come off his hand, and immediately grabbed the knife.

He spent no time inspecting his hand as he pulled it out of the hole, instead unsheathing the knife and spinning around in one motion. He leaped at the root, landing and sliding on his knees. It was quickly moving up the girl's leg.

He slammed the knife down onto the root once, causing it to flinch. His hand gripped the knife tightly, and he felt the vibrations from the impact. He briefly thought about how much his injury should be hurting, though he felt no pain at the moment.

Another violent, undisciplined swing was brought down onto the root, and it let go of the girl, quickly receding into the shadows.

Thomas had no time to catch his breath, however. Behind him, he heard loud snapping and cracking. He felt something land heavily on his back, and he looked over his shoulder in time to see that the strange cocoon of roots was alive and open like a hungry maw. It snapped down around the eldest of the group, swallowing him whole.

Thomas fully turned around by slowly rolling off his knees and landing onto his rear. He stared in a muted horror as the jaw of roots closed around the man and muffled his pained screams. The sounds that came from inside were awful -- Thomas imagination ran wild, creating images to match the gruesome noises.

Now vaguely aware of the rodent on his back, Thomas clutched his forehead with his injured hand in disbelief. Blood dripped off of it onto his brow and into his hair.

The strange warmth brought him back to his senses. He jerked his hand away from his face, quickly wiping off the blood with his sleeve. As the other boy tried to coax the thing that shook on his back, Thomas stared at his hand.

It hurt. And every movement made it hurt more.

In control. Be in control. He pushed aside the pain, picking the knife -- which he had dropped at some point during the older man's death -- up off the ground with his good hand. He tentatively held the sheath with his injured hand, sliding the knife back in.

He craned his neck awkwardly to get a better look at the rodent on his back. It must have been the thing that had attacked the snake, as it was covered in blood and clearly shaken up.

"Helpful little guy you are," he said to it, before addressing the girl and boy. "You two all right?"

He eyed the cocoon. "I can't say I think staying here is the best of ideas. We should leave."
Finally posted. Also, here's another awesome persona by Sho.

Toma Tanaka - Warakuma High School, Class 3 -1 | After School

The boy turned to face him, and for a moment, Toma was worried that he was being an annoyance. The boy's face certainly implied as much.

But the moment passed quickly, and the look of annoyance quickly disappeared. The boy shook Toma's hand as he introduced himself.

"Ah, feel free to call me Toma," he said, realizing the boy had given his first name.

It was then that Toma noticed the handshake was strangely... intimate? It seemed to linger a little too long... Showing no discomfort in his face, Toma broke it off, deciding to chalk it up to Aiko being a friendly person.

The boy then asked him why he had moved to Warakuma.

"My father's work," he replied simply and without hesitation. "So, anything fun to do after school here?" he asked, looking to change the subject of the conversation to something other than himself.

As he waited for Aiko's answer, he figured he should try finding a club or two to join. He was already a day behind, so the sooner he got on that, the better. His thoughts then drifted to Kotori - it'd be nice for him to at least say hi to her today. The issue was that classes were over, so she would either be going to a club or leaving for home. He'd just have to hope that he'd see her in the hallway or something.

I'm still here, just been having a busy week. I don't know when I'll be able to post, hopefully Friday night at the latest.

Thomas' eyes blinked open, to the sound of movement. He stared at the high, natural canopy that blocked out the sky, trying to understand where he was and how he had gotten here.

Finding that he had absolutely no idea, he simply rubbed his eyes, vaguely remembering the pain that had torn through him. It had apparently left an after-effect, as the boy's body was more sore than it had ever been. Planting his arm on the ground, he swiftly pushed himself up into a sitting position, wincing from the pain.

It was then that he saw the source of the movement: three other people. A younger girl, a dark-skinned boy, and a small man who seemed to be in his late twenties.

Confusion overrode any panic Thomas may have felt. The boy rubbed some dirt off the back of his head as he studied the others. The older man picked something up, and inspected it. The girl moved towards him, curious about what he had picked up. The other boy stood back.

None of them seemed to know anymore about where they were than he did, and they didn't look particularly threatening - if it came to blows, Thomas felt that only the dark-skinned boy would be of any danger.

That was until he opened his mouth. Thomas frowned disapprovingly at his words. He was... meek. He eyed the boy further, trying to figure out his game. Manipulate others into helping him by acting weak and harmless.

Thomas decided he'd play along.

He pushed himself to his feet, and placed his hand on the boy's shoulder, giving him a confident and reassuring smile.

"No need to be so worried," he said, looking at the shiny object. "See? Just a key..." Thomas then noticed the mass of roots that seemed to contain the remains of a human. "...huh. That's disconcerting."

Despite how strange and confusing the whole situation was, Thomas couldn't help but feel a little excited. It seemed like the beginning of a story - his own story.

He stepped away from the dark-skinned boy, moving to squat in front of the coffin-of-sorts. He took note of the strange vial of liquid and still-intact robe, understanding that this person hadn't been killed too long ago, but what really caught his eye was the scabbard and the knife it seemed to contain. That was something he'd rather not let fall into the hands of the strangers around him, but he couldn't very well take it himself without seeming suspicious.

Thomas decided to go on the hope that none of them would be bold enough to stick their hands inside.

He turned his head to face the others, still sitting on his haunches. "Looks like this fellow wasn't all that lucky," he said with a tilted smile, trying to make light of the situation.

It was then that his eye caught movement along the ground. He stopped dead for a moment, not understanding what he was seeing - some sort of root that was moving on it's own and...

His eyes snapped open. "Girl!" he yelled as the root quickly wrapped itself around her ankle.

In the moment of panic, he realized he had the excuse he needed.

Whipping back around towards the cocoon, he hastily plunged his hand through one of the holes, aiming to grab the knife and cut the root.
Toma Tanaka - Tanaka Residence | April 7th, Early Morning

Toma sat cross-legged on his chair, eyes dully focused on the screen in front of him. The monitor was the only source of light in the room, an inconsistent harsh flicker that was starting to hurt the boy's eyes. Which only made sense, considering he had been playing for hours.

He didn't particularly care if he was doing well or not - he was too tired for that. He simply played to keep his mind and fingers busy, though at this point he could barely register what was happening in-game; he was going off of muscle memory.

The teen paused for a moment, realizing that the round was over. He reached for a few chips, but came up with a handful of crumbs. If he had had any energy, he would have gotten annoyed. Instead, he tossed the bag into the waste bin underneath his desk, pushing it and another empty bag beneath it down with his foot, to keep the garbage from overflowing.

He cracked open another can of soda, taking a swig as he slowly turned his head towards his window. He stared with lifeless eyes, seeing that the sun was just beginning to come up. He'd have to get ready for school in a couple of hours.

Setting his drink down, he turned back towards his game.
Toma Tanaka - Tanaka Residence | April 7th, Morning

The obnoxiously loud alarm rang throughout Toma's room, causing his eyes to blink open.

He found himself hunched over his keyboard, face against the desk. His head was turned such that he faced the window, so he spent a minute longer in that position, staring out at his new, quiet neighborhood.

He rubbed his face and groaned as he pushed himself up, and, as always, regretted the fact that he had stayed up so late.

A half hour later, he was finishing off a cup of coffee that contained a ridiculous amount of sugar, and poured extra that he had made into a container, so he could drink it while walking to school. He then put on his tie, and threw on the school's vest over his untucked dress shirt.

After taking a sip of coffee, he stepped outside, already feeling much better and awake than he should have been.

Warakuma High School | Morning

Having to ask around to find out which class he was in, Toma got to class 3 - 1 just moments before it was to start. Stepping inside for the first time, he saw that he had very little choice in the way of seats - there'd be no window spot for him this year.

With an inaudible sigh, he took a seat beside a male student; next to this boy was a female student who looked strangely similar. Toma guessed they were related, but wasn't planning on asking - if they were, he'd find out soon enough anyways.

He opened his mouth to introduce himself, but was immediately cut off by the teacher starting the lesson.

After tossing his things into his bag, Toma turned to the boy sitting next to him.

"Yo," he said with a small wave and easygoing smile. "My name's Tanaka Toma. I'm new in town." The guy seemed nice enough, and considering that they'd be sitting next to each other for the year, Toma figured he was the best place to start getting to know the kids of the class.

Izumi Yuna

Yuna frowned slightly upon hearing that she had to stay at school. She decided not to wonder too much about it; after all, she was relatively involved with the school's happenings. There were a number of sound reasons that she'd be asked to stay.

She packed her things away neatly into her bag, before making her way to the room she had been told about. Standing at its door, she hesitated for a moment, feeling uneasy about the situation. After a quick look around the hallway she was in, she lightly knocked on the door and opened it.

Stepping inside, she noticed there was another girl in the room, who was looking very irritable. Yuna vaguely recognized her as an underclassman. After quietly closing the door behind her, she smiled at the younger girl.

"Hello there," she said softly, moving deeper into the room, but choosing to remain standing instead of taking a seat. "Were you asked to stay after classes, too?"
Saito Masaki

Masaki sat in a wheeled chair, and fiddled around with the mecha he had been assigned, making sure everything was in order and working. Technically not what he was supposed to be doing, but he had a hard time caring. Everyone around him was so busy with whatever that there wasn't much chance they'd pay any mind to a guy who looked like he was doing something useful.

Exactly how Masaki liked it.

Pushing against the mecha's leg, he rolled away from it, stopping near a counter. On the counter was an impressive computer, which had an uncountable amount of wires running from it to the vaguely-humanoid machine. He briefly studied the information being displayed. He let out a small sigh, seeing that the numbers hadn't changed at all since he had last checked - he really was wasting his time at this point.

His eyes glanced around the hangar, stopping on a screen that hung over the exit of the room. It was a sort of news bulletin, displaying any information that mattered to SEED.

The one thing it had been showing all day was a reminder: the second Nephilim attack was due any day, according to Kawaguchi. It also said that today was the day that the candidates were to be brought in.

'Candidates.' Masaki clicked his tongue disapprovingly. They were people. Children, no less. And they'd be informed that they were to stop the most terrifying monster the Earth had ever seen.

Poor girls, he thought, rolling back over to his mecha. That'll be an unpleasant surprise.
