Why not show the world all the positive things about your life instead of dwelling on the negative?

Chapter One - The Rabbit Hole
1.

They lived in the woods, in nothing more than a deteriorating two-bedroom shack. Their family was part of the recent gossip in town, particularly the second youngest daughter. She had two older brothers and a younger sister. She didn’t go to school much; her grades were below average. Even more curious, she isolated herself from the other students as if she were afraid. It was more than anxiety; she wasn’t just nervous. There was pure, solid fear radiating from her soul.

People had a lot to say about Jenna McCarthy and her life, yet the full complexity about the events that had occurred were never portrayed. Rumors fly through small towns; some people said Jenna was the way she was because her daddy beat all four of the children. Some said it was because she watched her momma kill him and then herself. Some said both. Nobody knew the actual reason, but little Jenna sure was the talk of the town for a while without ever speaking a word.

Jenna’s oldest brother was Cole Matthews, carrying a different surname because his daddy wasn’t hers. He was already eight years old when Becca gave birth to Jenna, taking his little brother outside every day to play and escape their step-daddy’s wrath. Things calmed down around the house after her birth, and Dale McCarthy became a tolerable man for a while. Penelope was born three years after Jenna, and it was shortly after her second birthday party when Dale’s anger and abuse was resurrected. The party balloons hadn’t even deflated yet before he caught his wife, Becca in another man’s bed, but he just couldn’t bring himself to divorce her, even if it would have been the best decision to make for all of them. He said it was against his nature. That was when he started taking his daily anger out on his wife and kids, right up until the day Becca killed him.

It was a fairly cool day in September. Birds were chirping outside, the leaves on the trees were starting to turn. There was a nice breeze swaying their branches. Penelope and Jenna were in their bedroom, Penelope coloring and Jenna writing. Cole opened the front door of their measly shack to be greeted with a stern look from a police officer, who was looking at him over the shoulder of Cole’s younger brother, Dillon.

“This your son, sir?”

“Brother,” he sighed, swearing he couldn’t have looked that old. “I’m the legal guardian, yes.”

A drawn-out clicking noise was heard and Dillon’s once-bound hands hung freely by his side. The sixteen year old rubbed lightly at his wrists, staring at Cole with a crooked grin on his face, unflinching.

“Caught him trying to shoplift from Uncle Buddy’s Convenience with a few of his friends,” the officer drawled, putting his hands on his hips. He seemed to stare into their home more intensely than what was wanted at that moment, so Cole shifted to block his good view. The officer continued, “Never had trouble with him before, not like the convicts he was grouped with. Gonna let him off the hook this time.”

He peered at Cole with narrowed eyes, “You kids holdin’ up okay?”

Constructive criticism welcome.
Posting from my school-issued laptop that is a bit faulty: today, after replacing the CMOS battery in my desktop's motherboard, the graphics card short-circuited for reasons unknown to me and caught the machine on fire. Thus, the end of my P.C. It is very likely that I'll still be able to post quickly and regularly from this laptop, but there may be long periods of time where I post nothing.

Chapter One

Unfinished

A very specific subspecies of dragon known as Dutch Angel Dragons are some of the most ancient divine creatures to have ever existed in the universe. This universe is divided into four dimensions: Paradise, Aether, Terra, and Abyss. Each dimension has unique properties and regulations. Paradise is the equivalent of what we call Heaven; in it exists pure divine entities centered on the balance of peace and harmony throughout the universe. The utmost authority in Paradise are rightfully known as the Peace. These are the beings that enforce the laws of peace on others existing in Paradise. In a dimensional plane below Paradise but above Terra is Aether. This is where all other divine and supernatural beings reside who are not pure enough to exist in Paradise. The beings who exist in Aether are not visible to the ones who exist in Terra, though sometimes they can harness enough of their own divine energy to become apparent as an apparition of sorts to those in Terra. Because of this use of energy, the air around them can become cold, and sometimes electronics may malfunction.

The next dimension is Terra. This is the plane where humans and other non-divine beings exist. That includes all members of the animal kingdom; mammals, arthropods, birds, insects, etc. The balance of good and evil is kept here by the entities that exist in Paradise, and also in Abyss, which is the complement of Paradise and the last and lowest dimension. In Abyss exists the damned and tortured souls, seeking to cause chaos and disorder in the universe. From Abyss emerges what humans know as demons and devils. Like in Paradise, an authority oversees the entirety of Abyss. Their title, however, remains unknown.

Dutch Angel Dragons exist primarily in Aether, and some in Abyss (though these are known as Demon Dragons.) They have been prohibited from ever again existing in Paradise due to a war that broke out long ago in the ancient times of the universe. Then, Abyss did not exist. In Paradise existed all types of energies and beings. The Peace was devoted to keeping the realm peaceful and harmonious, but this was more difficult than they had anticipated. Dutch Angel Dragons were notable figures in Paradise, due to their good-hearted natures. Specifically ones who were gifted with certain abilities and powers, Angel Dragons were given responsibilities to uphold in the universe. They would watch over the beings in Terra, sometimes influencing them to perform certain actions. They were, respectfully, angels. In some circumstances, there were ways that Angel Dragons could even expire their current bodies, and rebuild themselves in Terra as horses. This would give them a more direct influence over those in Terra.

There is one Dutch Angel Dragon that holds an incredibly significant reputation in the universe. They are known by their modern day name, Telephone. They were given an incredible, honorable task of guarding and watching over a more divine being created from the energies of the ancient ones, now known as the Peace. This new divine being was formed for a purpose: to introduce a greater peace and to introduce more order into this universe.

In Paradise, there existed another ancient being who became very close and affectionate toward the Dutch Angel Dragons, and in return the Angel Dragons developed a strong loyalty for them. However, this ancient being had the mindset that permanent and undisturbed peace and harmony should have been impossible. Thus, they were the first to seek chaos and disorder, as all beings in Abyss do now. And so, chaos and disorder existed. Fighting broke out between energies and beings in Paradise, Dutch Angel Dragons feeling the negative energies more strongly than most. Entities opposed each other, tearing the realm down as they did so. Finally, the Peace made the decision to create an entirely different, entirely separate realm for the negative energies to exist in: Abyss.
@mcpop9 No prob!
I'm waiting on @mcpop9 to respond to Rhoo.
Hate to say, but I'm dropping out of the RP. Wanna make room for another one.
@Twhirtley, I will PM you Rhoo's character sheet by the end of the week.
@Nate When is this going to start?
At Evelyn's comment, Rhoo looked at her and smiled. She could hear the amusement in the woman's voice. Rhoo wasn't quite sure how to handle the boy in front of her who had just practically swallowed the sausage whole. She looked from Evelyn to him, and her face showed surprise when the boy's hood fell from his head, unveiling a set of horns. Soon after, his tail became present. She stared at him in awe, for she had not seen something exactly like this yet.

Then, the boy hid himself again, seeming to be frightened. When he begged Rhoo not to hurt him, she could feel her heart break. She didn't feel like she looked as a threat. She was rather thin and lanky, and wasn't even sure if she possessed any real strength. Staring at the crouching boy, she lowered herself to his level and was silent for a moment.

Slowly and cautiously, Rhoo put the bowl with the remaining sausage on the floor in front of him. Her mind never slowing down to give her time to properly think, she managed to tell him, "You can have these. I won't hurt you." She made a face something like a grimace and said, "You look nice."
