A Brief History of the Djinni as They Relate to the Covenant Academy Universe

In the real world, djinni are described as a race that exists in a higher state of being than humans. They can see and interact with the humans' world, but the humans cannot see or interact with them unless they will it. Every person is paired with a qarīn, i.e. their assigned djinni, at birth.

In the Covenant Academy universe, while everyone has a qarīn, a contract is not formed until the qarīn decides to reveal itself to its human counterpart, this is a rare occurrence especially when compared to ages past when, while still uncommon, was several times more common than today. The qarīn seem to prefer to reveal themselves to performers, stage magicians in today's time; e.g. Criss Angel levitates because his qarīn is lifting him up.

Djinn also possess an animal form in contrast to their human form, typically a djinni needs to be in their animal form before they can fuse with their contractor. It seems that the djinni can only hide from non-contractors. Djinni are particularly useful in that they can interact with the human world even while unsummoned, for this reason the Contractor's powers do not weaken when their qarīn is defeated; a caster's powers are largely magical and derive themselves from recitation of the Qur'an, (e.g. during the Rwandan Genocide, neither Tutsis nor Hutus would approach Muslim neighborhoods for fear of djinn and their derived magic.)

•Name: Tsukino Rin
•Age: 15
•Personality: An all-around bum and generally carefree; unmotivated beyond a doubt, save when food's involved. Often times it's up to Hania to wake her; it's been that way for as long as either of them can remember.
•Clubs: Culinary Club
•Brief Backstory: Rin's life has been generally uneventful, actually, save the fact that she's always been more in touch with her qarīn, Hania, than most people are with theirs. For as long as she can recall, she's seen, talked to, and been friends with Hania; they're practically sisters.

Hania's Animal Form

•Name: Hania
•Type: Djinni
•Personality: Mischievous and excessively youthful, in stark contradiction to Rin. She particularly enjoys playing pranks on non-contractors, for which Rin can often take the blame.
•Powers: Due to the nature of her contract, Rin can cast magics by reciting memorized verses of the Qur'an.
Why the Qur'an? Many, many years ago, Mohammed was a great contractor whose qarīn taught him to use his magic first; he wrote all he learned in a grimoire and when he died his followers interrupted the grimoire as the word of God and made it sacred to their faith.

Presently, her memorized verses are these:
Surat An-Naĥl 16:81 "And Allah has made for you, from that which He has created, shadows and has made for you from the mountains, shelters and has made for you garments which protect you from the heat and garments which protect you from your enemy in battle. Thus does He complete His favor upon you that you might submit to Him." A general equipping spell, after reciting Rin's body is clothed in an ultra-light armour, increasing her defenses without hindering her speed, which is good because there's hardly any to begin with.

Her Armor

Surat Saba 34:9 "Then, do they not look at what is before them and what is behind them of the heaven and earth? If We should will, We could cause the earth to swallow them or could let fall upon them fragments from the sky. Indeed in that is a sign for every servant turning back to Allah." A collection of three meteors, no larger than two-meters width are summoned from the sky, falling onto the area around Rin.

Surat 'Āli `Imrān 3:116 "Indeed, those who disbelieve - never will their wealth or their children avail them against Allah at all, and those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally." A ball of fire amasses as the words are recited, then at the end is released in a brilliant display away from the caster.

Surat Al-'Isrā' 17:45 "And when you recite the Qur'an, We put between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter a concealed partition." A shield spell, capable of blocking a succession of melee attacks and absorbing a couple of magic attacks within a brief period of time; is particularly draining on Hania's part and can only be used once during any given day.

•Summon: As a djinni, Hania has the power to transverse large distances at quick speeds, she's found this power to be particularly useful when trying to get Rin to class on time. Her presence allows Rin to cast instantly at the expense of Hania's life-force.

Soaring across the sky like shooting stars, blades glistening in the sunlight, a formation of three of the 108th's... average graduates. Spearheaded by a young girl with thin glasses and bouncy shoulder-length hair that flew behind her as she floated effortlessly across the cityscape. Their sights were set on a titan of no less than seven meters, no more different than the majority of titans.

Aurora let out a light sigh and looked behind her at her comrades briefly and smiled; partly to reassure them and partly to make sure they were still alive. Aurora looked up at a large tower, jutting out at the sky from the district beneath her feet, she aimed at the top of it, and swung around it behind the behemoth. Meanwhile, the two accompanying her swung themselves underneath the titan's legs, one lands in a roll, bouncing back up like a gymnast; the other crashes, rolling, though none too gracefully.

Using the centripetal force of her swing, Aurora cut a section out of the titan's neck; however, the titan stood firm, having been a little further from the tower than anticipated. He turned about as Aurora quickly swung behind the tower to hide. She peeked out from around the corner as the titan bent over, reaching at the boy on the ground, taking him in it's hand.

The girl, who landed as a gymnast would, looked over, and seeing her comrade grasped by the monstrosity, and sent a spike of her ODM into the monster's face; panicked, the titan withdrew in rage, slinging the girl behind him as he fell on his back. She slammed audibly onto the cobblestone street below and laid motionless. The titan redirected its attention to its original victim; he opened his mouth abnormally wide and holding the boy by the collar of his jacket, dropped him in.

Aurora watched on, petrified, startled only when the titan took notice of her and swung him massive paws at the tower, snapping it in half. Aurora quickly aimed and fired her ODM, soaring away from the failed attack. The ODM whirs and spikes land and fix themselves in the rooftop that the crew have found themselves on, soon after Aurora falls out of the sky, landing ever-so-graciously on the rooftop, "Axel and Carla were lost when we tried to tackle a seven-meter...I uhm... let it get away... sorry, guys..."

Ugh~ let's get stared already~!

The God Complex

Within minutes of Rhonda's leaving, the silence in the room was interrupted by the soft whirring sound of the double doors parting. Standing behind them was a young girl, easily mistakable for a minor, she holds a stack of books near eight-inches thick to her chest firm to her chest in her right arm and reaches with the left to readjust her glasses further up her nose. In a soft, subtle motion she moves it from her nose to cover her mouth before gliding into the room as if she were a ghost. She glances over to Elton and quickly down to her feet, watching them move as if on their own accord.

Her body moves elegantly, with little deviance in her step, she moves across to the right side of the table to a chair not too far away from Elton, but definitely not too close. She leans over the chair and sets her stack of books onto the smooth silver tabletop, the stack consists of a couple composition notebooks and a large paperback textbook titled: 'Law & Order: And Introduction to Criminal Justice.' Aurora pulls one of the dark, obsidian-black chairs out from beneath the table and moves around it, sitting softly in the chair before laying her head on the tabletop and yawning.

She brings her hand up to the tip of her glasses, colored images flash by on the lenses; she watches, darting her eyes around at the tiny screens as she lays otherwise motionless. Suddenly, she perks up, sitting up straight in her chair before touching the inside of her right ear,

"Hello?"

"Yes, Dad... I'm here."

"...is he the scary one with the greying hair?"

"Then no... he's not here yet."

"Alright... I'll call you when we're done."

"Love you too... bye."
