While the royalty and their attendants dueled, Galen finished clearing the area of innocents. While it was technically his responsibility to keep the peace, he had to first make sure to fulfill his first priority: the safety of the people of the council of kingdoms.
He finally got the last straggler out when things began to peak, and as the Irena and Lorelai crossed blades, the ground of the ballroom cracked. A horrible reverberating sound echoed through the castle, and a skeletal hand shot through the once flawless floor. All around him, more and more of the creatures broke through, forming into ranks. A mass necromancy spell had been triggered by the immense powers unleashed within the castle. The Dark Ones were making their appearance.
The creatures began a chant that grew as more of their brethren joined them on the surface. It became nearly debilitating for all who could hear it. It made those in earshot bleed from the ears and dug into their heads as if it were a psychic scream.
We Dark ones are loose and the Master will win.
We Demons have come to rip off your skin.
Blood red eyes will see you if you try to run.
We Dark ones will get you and laugh like it’s fun.
Walk away slow or we’ll tear you apart,
And laugh all day as we devour your heart
Blood red eyes will see you if you try to stand still.
We Dark ones will get you, for Evil we kill.
Hack us up, chop us up, cut us to bits,
Or else we’ll get you while laughing in fits.
If we Dark ones don’t get you, Master will try.
To reach out and touch you, your skin he will fry.
Your mind he will flail, your soul he will rape.
You’ll sleep with the dead, for life you’ll forsake.
You’ll die and die til the end of time.
We hate that you live. Your life is a crime.
Manic laughter permeated the air, and Galen was standing on a fine line of insanity and calm. Frozen in place, it took him a few moments to get over the shock and prepare himself for the dark ones' assault. He increased the strength of his leeching spell once more, hoping the energies he would siphon off the creatures as well as Lorelai and her minions would be sufficient for him to defeat this army. Blasting the creatures in waves of every element, he began his dance with death, hoping that the queen and Isaiah could hold their own against the ones who got through as he held the bulk of the army. In the back of his mind, he prayed for Lori. The once sweet princess would be in for some very bad experiences if she survived to the end of her birthday.
