  • Name: Norvell Perard
  • Age: 33
  • Gender: Male
  • Appearance: Norvell is a tall light brown skinned man with a long, oblong shaped head that is shaved, the only hair on it being the goatee on his face. His facial features are chiseled and his small eyes are brown. He prefers to dress in high class attire with his usual outfit consisting of a red sweater, black pants, and a long black long coat
  • Personality: A man guided by his objectives, Norvell focuses primarily on penultimate outcomes when making decisions and seldom dwells on the implications of the steps taken to reach them. If people happen to die along the way then oh well, life wasn't promised to last forever. He believes that the ends more than makes up for the means, and as long as his cause is just then his actions performed in the name of that cause are also just. He vehemently refuses to entertain those who try to reason with him otherwise. He is an adamant man who is reluctant to allow his ideals to be tainted by outside influences. To Norvell nothing nor nobody should ever take priority over his "destiny" whether they be family, friend, foe, or his own physical limitations. He is selfish without shame and probably wouldn't take time out to help another unless he can further his own goals in doing so. Then again, in his mind achieving his goals will help bolster mankind. So what if he forgoes saving a few lives? If he accomplishes what he sets out to do then millions will surely enjoy paradise.

Norvell's goal - or rather his "destiny" as he prefers to call it - is to effectively establish balance in the world. He believes that there are many powerful forces which have upset this balance and that they must be weakened to stabilized the world's order. Likewise, he also believes there are entities which aren't strong enough and he wishes to empower them to a point which he feels is appropriate. Third, Norvell thinks that the relationship between humanity and nature has been in steady decline throughout history and that if he can somehow renew this relationship, then mankind will be guided onto the right path. If any part of his "destiny" fails, then Norvell stresses that mankind would inevitably find itself on course to its own decimation. In reality, Norvell's ambitions are vague and they may only make sense in his head. That won't stop him from pursuing them nor reaching only thing that can bring them to fruition - the Origin of all Magic.
  • Abilities: Norvell's affinity is for earth and his abilities center on utilizing the land around him to perform spells. Norvell does not have the capability to materialize earth and must have a source of land around for his abilities to be of use. In scenarios where there is little to no land available for him to manipulate, such as being out at sea, Norvell's strongest spells would be of little to no use. Norvell's application of his earth affinity is versatile and he can utilize spells for offensive, defensive, or supplementary purposes such as immobilization of opponents by using land to trap their limbs. Offensively, Norvell can shape and project earth towards enemies whereas defensively he can use the land to create barriers against incoming attacks. Commonly, at the cost of his mobility, Norvell will partially encase his own body with earth for protection.
  • Skills: Norvell is a competent martial artist and can hold his own in hand-to-hand combat. While he is no marksman, he also knows the basics of shooting a firearm. He is also well versed in history and cultural anthropology. In addition to English, he can speak Haitian Creole, some French, and has a developing proficiency in Japanese.
  • Equipment: Norvell carries no noteworthy equipment as he relies on his hand-to-hand combat skills and magic in battle.
  • Brief Backstory: Throughout his life Norvell has witnessed firsthand the corruption of those with too much power and the uselessness of those with too little. He himself weak and powerless, he sought to become stronger so that he may one day change this dynamic. As a youth revolution became his ideal and he developed his own warped version of the social contract - people have the right to overthrow those with authority over them but they also must possess the means necessary to do so. If not, then that authority has the right to crush the rebellion and continue its oppression. Therefore, Norvell came to believe that the authority and the people under it must possess reasonable amounts of strength to keep each other from gaining too much control. Being apart of a weak and disrespected family made him an outcast among his peers which fueled the birth of ideology. He may have never come to accept it, but it is entirely possible that his ideals were conceived by his desire to gain at least the tiniest bit of recognition and self-worth. He came from a disgraced lineage and it didn't matter to most if he didn't reach his potential. So, he was going to enforce change in the order of the magical world and make it a place of equality.

Norvell's desire for change did not apply only to the magical world but the mundane as well. Growing up he watched as people all around him became manipulated by the distractions of the modern world. He felt that these people had lost their freedom and sought to break the chains that bound them and himself. He worked harder in his training and despite his struggling he made enough progress to become noteworthy among his family which wasn't much considering how low the esteem they were held in was. He studied, acquired knowledge, and when he became of age he left home on a journey for he felt that he needed more than book knowledge to reach his zenith. He needed to gain a true understanding of the world he lived in which could only be done by seeing it. With little resources other than the novice skill he attained, Norvell put his family behind him and instead took up the life of a vagrant. He came to learn of the upcoming White Night of Klarsberg through his travels and while he originally didn't think of reaching the Origin of all Magic, he couldn't think of a better instrument for change. Norvell knew that he had to reach the Origin of Magic. No, the world needed him to or else it would fall apart.

The die came to a stop landing on the number three, its color shifting from blue to red. Evan's suspicions were confirmed. It wasn't an ordinary die he acquired but rather it was a special type. As he wondered how much money he could potentially make off selling it, he felt a vibration in his pocket. Pulling out his cellphone he noticed a notification appear on his lock screen for an app - an app that he didn't remember downloading.

"What the hell is this?"

Before he had a chance to investigate, Evan felt his phone vibrate again and with it a different notification, this time for a text message. Evan swiped his lock screen to access his phone and decided to first read the text message before checking out the strange app. His eyes widened as he skimmed through the message. The sender was unknown and its content was bizarre. Suddenly his dull day had exploded with an intense flare.

Essentially, the text message explained that he had rolled the number three and now had that same amount of points to allocate into various statistics. What kind of statistics? Evan had to go into the Dice app to find out. Since he was intending to that anyway, he switched over to the app and inspected its interface. There were a variety of tabs, most of which were inaccessible except for a few. The most notable were quest and stats - the latter of which he believed to be the one that the text message prompted him to check. Evan selected the option to view his stats and his shocked.

"Charisma 30, sounds about right," Evan whispered, "agility 25, well I was never slow. Wait a second! Strength 15? Motivation 10? Who came up with these ratings?"

Evan had absolutely no problem with his higher rated stats but was a bit irritated by the lower rated ones. Okay so he wasn't a body builder but that didn't mean he was weak. If twenty was the average, then his dexterity, strength, and motivation were poor because they were all beneath that standard. Evan knew that he wasn't the most motivated dude in the world - the fact that he barely attempted his homework while he was in school was a testament to that. However, even he thought he was more than capable of a measly ten.

The top of his stats screen read AVAILABLE POINTS: 3.

Well if I have three points to spend then let me beef up one of those low areas.

Opting to spend his points, Evan pressed the plus sign next to his strength to dispense all three of his points into that respective stat. While a seventeen wasn't quite average he figured that it would at least do him better justice than a fifteen.

But all I got was three points.

If he had just a little more then maybe he could increase his other weak areas too. Wait again, just why was he was so interested in this mysterious app? He had no idea where these ratings came from or if they were even applicable towards him (although they more than likely were). Evan gritted his teeth as he considered the possibility that the app and his being were somehow connected. The text message he received along with the app was cryptic and didn't offer much information. It just told him to spend the points, go on quests, and have fun.

Quests?

Evan turned his attention to the other tab he was able to access within the app. Of course it was labeled QUESTS and upon entering the tab he was greeted with four objectives to complete. First, he could move out for a reward of three dices - the highest offered. Second, he could go back to college for a reward of one die. It was the least rewarding of his present quests but also the easiest. Ordinarily one would think the third quest would be th easiest for all it asked was for Evan to hold a cordial conversation with his parents. Yeah, that wasn't going to happen anytime soon. Neither was quest four which was to obtain some motivation for a reward of more quests.

"Looks like I'm going back to school...for now," Evan decided.

It appeared that if he completed one of the quests then Evan would get more dice. For now, he settled on the quest that would be the least hardest for him to accomplish. He had little to no intention of actually returning to school. It was merely a test to check the legitimacy of this whole ordeal. If he did in fact receive another die after re-enrolling in college then maybe he would continue using the app. It wasn't like he had anything else better to do anyway. Playing this 'game' sure as hell beat going to work.

And with that Evan boarded a bus and made his way towards the local community college campus.

It had to be like ten 'o' clock in the morning...or was it later? Evan didn't know and he didn't care. A yawn rolled out of his mouth as he rolled over on the couch in the living room of the apartment he shared with Devin, his roommate who was still in his room sleeping.

Thud!

Failing to pay close attention, mostly due to the confusion caused by his hangover, Evan rolled too far over and ended up falling on the floor. Shocked away, Evan looked up at the clock on the wall to see that he had slept well into the afternoon. Fortunately, he was off from his mediocre job today. He let out another yawn and planted himself back down onto the couch. The television sat in front of him turned off. How was going to spend his free day? Would he surf through channels, play a video game, or maybe he would go outside for a walk? Evan mulled over the possibilities before deciding to go for the walk. The weather outside wasn't all that bad. Maybe he would finally have some good luck and met the girl of his dreams.

Speaking of good luck, Evan felt the pocket of his shorts only to discover that something small was inside. Funny, he didn't remember putting anything there. Then again he didn't remember much from the night before at all. Curious to see what it was, he slid his hand into his pocket, grasped the object, and pulled it out. He held the die between two of his fingers and raised an eyebrow.

"Oh yeah," he said as it suddenly came back to him.

It was odd, he found the die lying on the ground out back of the apartment complex by the dumpster when taking out the garbage yesterday. It wasn't everyday that one found a die so he picked up and took it for himself. Plus, which was even odder, Evan recalled that he felt as if the die wanted him to pick it up. Putting the die back into his pocket, Evan got dressed, left his apartment, and headed towards the nearby park. Upon arriving he sat down on a bench and looked at the mysterious die in his palm.

Just what am I going to do with this thing? Evan wondered.

He wasn't much of a gambler. There were a group of guys who often played dice games in the park. That wasn't Evan's cup of tea for they were all risk with little promise of reward. But, if his die was rigged, then maybe he could use it to turn the tables in his favor and score him some extra money. Of course it was highly unlikely that the die he randomly found on the ground was tricky in any kind of way. Yet, Evan knew there was something special about it. It couldn't be just luck that he found the die sitting near the dumpster. Or maybe it was just another person in his building's trash that fell out of their bag when they went to throw it away.

As the saying goes - one man's trash is another man's treasure.

And with that thought in mind Evan rolled the die across the ground in front of him.

Name: Evan Fredericks

Age: 22

Gender: Male

Appearance: Evan isn't the type of guy to care all that much about appearance. He feels that people will either find him attractive or not and there is nothing he could really do to alter their opinion of his looks. Therefore, he doesn't really have a true assessment of his own physique. He is approximately six feet tall and is dark complected. He has always been skinny and lanky and most would estimate that he is of below average weight in comparison to his height. He has black hair which is closely cut and dark brown eyes. There is little to no hair on Evan's face as he has never managed to grow much and he has presumably shaved off whatever little he did.

Personality: Throughout most of his life Evan has been branded as a slacker with little to no motivation. Aloof and nonchalant, he doesn't worry himself with things that other people consider to be important. He also has a habit of never finishing what he starts - college being his most recent instance of quitting. Despite his failures, he seems to be content with his life as well as his shortcomings. He will admit his lack of integrity and discipline because he believes flaws are what make people human. He doesn't set out to be perfect but to be comfortable. He doesn't mind a little bit of excitement every now and then, however. He is just as susceptible to boredom as anyone else and will gladly pursue an interesting opportunity if he can be swayed enough to do so by the rewards. Whether or not he will fully commit to his venture is another matter entirely.

Although he doesn't really have anything to offer other people, Evan has somehow accumulated a good amount of friends. He discovered early on that the best way for him to survive is to make connections and take advantage of them. While he can be sarcastic and stubborn, he tries his best to respect others and will usually put forth the minimum to keep a relationship stable. While his friends and family will lament about how unreliable he is, they would comment that his "good nature" more than makes up for his indolence. He can properly convey compassion. His concern may not be entirely sincere and he may only be pretending to care about another person to gain their trust, but he is careful enough to craft his words in an easy to believe manner.

History: Born the youngest of three children in a middle class household, Evan has become accustomed to being spoiled and getting what he wants without much work. His parents coddled him which made him a bit softer than his peers and more demanding than his siblings. Scrawny and frail, he was targeted by larger boys due to his meek frame and unwillingness to retaliate when attacked. Thankfully someone was always there to have his back and when they weren't he was able to literally run from his problems. The older he grew the more dependent he became. He was also becoming weaker and a burden but failed to acknowledge it. He was fine with being taken care of and intended to keep it way.

Evan's pre-teen and teenage years were relatively bland. It was when he attempted college that circumstances took a major turn. After barely graduating high school, Evan attended community college were he fared even worse. Unwilling to complete his school work, his grades suffered until his financial aid was suspended. Rather than try and get it back, Evan simply dropped out of college during his second year which infuriated his parents. After a big falling out Evan was kicked out of his parents house and forced to couch hop from friend's house to friend's house until he was finally forced to get a job and start making his own income. With the help of a roommate (who is no less a slacker than he is) he managed to rent out the apartment where he currently resides.

It was merely by chance that Evan's life would change during one of the most mundane moments. As he was taking out the garbage. he noticed a small sparkle on the ground. Deciding to investigate, expecting to find a diamond or something else of great value, he was disappointed to find a small die. Nevertheless, he pocketed the die and threw the garbage bag into the dumpster before returning to his apartment. Evan didn't have any intentions for the die at first. He didn't know why he bothered to take it within him in the first place. Oh well, he figured he didn't have anything to lose by doing so.

Specializations:
High (30) - Charisma: As fighting has never been a viable solution for Evan, he has instead opted to pick up good communication skills so that he may work out issues through verbalization. He has since become skilled in making acquisitions through negotiation.

Average (25) - Agility: While he wasn't capable of fighting back against bullies during high school, Evan rarely ever failed at outrunning them. As more and more threats kept pursuing him throughout the years - stray dogs, security guards, and his older sister - he got faster with each evasion.

Low (22) - Perception: Evan is good at stepping back and making observations about his surroundings. A detailed oriented person, he is more likely to take notice of and appreciate smaller aspects.

Imperfections:
High (10) - Diligence - Evan is not a hard worker by any means and seldom gains through his own merits. If a task requires excessive effort, expect him to have trouble getting started and to cut corners once he does.

Average (15) - Strength: The reason why Evan prefers to avoid fights is that he doesn't pack much of a punch. His physical strength is shamefully below average for a young man his age and he even has difficulty lifting heavier objects.

Low (18) - Handiness: Evan isn't the best at tasks that center on hand usage and struggles when trying to accomplish them. One would be better off asking someone else to hammer a nail than him.
