SORRY everybody for the delay, I had to attend two weddings and had Mother's Day to deal with. Luckily I'm done with that for now. Here's my CS. Please critique! Still a few things I've got to update over time like the biography. I'm actually wondering a few things which I kind of highlighted in the CS. For instance, in this world horses aren't used; what would be an acceptable analogue, specifically for mounted combat? Also, has the Vigil offered monetary reward or hired mercenaries for their mission, or is it simply inspired by personal zeal? Probably should have asked about this before making my character a mercenary, though I can change it around fairly easily.

Yo, I just want to leave a lifesign for the lot of you. What's holding me up is, in a nutshell, stress at uni, as well as probably the longest backstory I have ever written for a character. Ambition and lack of time, it seems, do not mesh well, so it'll take a bit before I can show you what I've got. I'll get there, and I hope you'll like it, but if you're about ready and I am not, don't wait for me.

Edit: Ah, lest I forget; what country is the Vigil located in? What nationality would someone from there (or someone who adopted their nationality) have?

Hello, sorry for the late reply both Saber and I were busy. I like your character, actually and there's nothing to critic. Though you have one thing backwards, traditionally everyone but the people of the Hattavori had horses. They had the Southern dragons, the stritai for use(if you had the choose of a horse or a dragon made perfectly for the desert, what would you chose?). Now they've converted to using horses as the stritai have gone hostile which has contributed to the loss of heritage and culture. Still though, the horses are not that well suited to the Hattavori and are native to Worsenth. You however have the chose of using a horse or making up an animal for mounted combat, as this is a high fantasy world. Have fun with it and go wild! I'm excited to see what you come up with, if you go down that path.

There is a reward offered by the Vigil though some have joined due to personal reasons(Morben is an example of personal while Atheri is after the money).

Understandable but thank you for telling us, we were getting worried you went AWOL with Remnant. Good luck with school, we may await on you yet.
The Vigil is located in the region (we lack countries & kingdoms, long story) of Laurosa by the coast. Laurosa is a beautiful place, runs along the edge of both Vallake and Euphius. Forests, some hills, flatland for farming. The Vigil itself is located right up on the water, formally was the town of Wyverncliff which tells you about its geography.

For everyone, we'll be contacting everyone who expressed interest to see if we can drag in one or two more (or see if Remnant's alive) so we may be delayed on getting the IC up by a bit. You're all welcomed to make another character, if the fancy takes you.
Thank you again for sticking with us, hopefully this show will finally hit the road soon enough.

Should have Morben's CS done before the weekend. I'm shooting to have the IC up this Saturday, when I'll have some free time. Sorry for all the delays, thanks for all your patience.

I have an idea. What if we all state right now the things (not counting spontaneous life events) that could take much of our time and possibly cause a sudden temporary hiatus on the RP. This would help give us an idea on why someone is gone whenever they do get into a sudden hiatus and thus not make us immediately jump to conclusions (well at least, for me, because I tend to overthink a lot).

I guess for me, the current biggest responsibility is college, so...I guess that doesn't need much explaining. =)

Good idea, Prince! Luckily, I just finished my Freshman year of college and am on summer break. I'm currently looking for part-time employment, and will (possibly) be taking summer classes if more people enroll (there's a minimum of 10 and presently there's only myself and two other people enrolled). Other than that, barring occasional stuff with my friends, I'm pretty much free until late August when I start school again.

Hello there! Pardon my intrusion, but I'd like to announce my interest. Ashgan introduced me to the setting, and I hope I'm not imposing on you this late into your preparations.

I read through what has been posted and oriented myself regarding the world, and I would love to take part in this.

I've had some ideas churning in the back of my mind for the last few days and I have a basic idea for a character thought out: a disgraced knightess, likely from Eastern Vallake, weighted down by survivor's guilt yet too proud still to let others see her weak nature. I could have the character sheet ready in two or three days.

I have many a question, but I suppose I should start with the important one: may I join the RP?

Also, may I make a suggestion? I was thinking that when the IC goes up, we could make a Chatzy to communicate with each other a bit more easily. And since we can't possibly ask you all the questions we have about the setting, you could make a PiratePad to put some info about the setting to inform our RP'ing. Just a suggestion ^_^

I have some questions about the world, some of which would be relevant to my character.
I'll start with the important ones:

• Are anyone fighting each other? I understand we're in a time of relative peace, but is there political tension between nations? Tension within nations? Border disputes?
  Expanding on this, has (Eastern) Vallake in particular (or its friends, for that matter) been involved in recent skirmishing or warfare?


• Is Vallake, both eastern and western, united? Or are they separate countries? How is Vallake ruled?


• Does Vallake have aristocracy? Does it have a tradition of knighthood?


• How much am I allowed to make up for my character's background story?

A rough outline of my character's story goes like this:

The girl is born into a matriarchal aristocratic family with knightly traditions, and as such she receives training in arms and is educated in what is expected from someone of her stature.
She does not get along well with her mother, as she is lacking in many of the attributes her mother holds in high regard such as leadership, assertiveness and mental fortitude. This tension is amplified due to her being the eldest daughter, and therefore expected to become the next family head.
The mother, wanting to toughen up her daughter, sends her along to what should have been a simple mission, but the army/company she went with is met by reinforcements or an ambush or something to that effect. In the face of such odds, fear for her life overtakes her and she flees the battle.
Shame comes over her, and in an act of folly she later returns to the battlefield only to see her fallen allies scattered before her. She is captured by the enemy and held ransom, which her family pays for.
She returns home, shame and guilt for abandoning her comrades weighting heavy upon her.

This, I was thinking, would have happened not long before the beginning of the RP. The matriarch hears word of the events at Merrifort and, sending her daughter out on what almost seems to be a suicide mission, gives her one last chance to restore her honor and amend the shame she brought upon her family.

If you or Sicarius have any knowledge you think could be helpful to my situation, it would be greatly appreciated. Same with any objections: if there are any, I'll do my best to rectify it.

I still have a few questions, out of general curiousity:

• Can you tell more about the Yildeanic faith? How is Yildeane worshipped: are there houses of prayer, like churches and temples? I get the impression that people are encouraged to rely on their own strength of mind and body to overcome difficulty, rather than pray for a miracle. Is this correct? Could you expand a little upon the core principles of the faith?


• Why and when was Besirioth abandoned? There's an awful lot of info for an empty city and little about why it was emptied.

Oh, please don't worry. Sicarius and I are still working to get everything in motion. It's just that the last three weeks have been intense for me and it seems that this activity isn't going to disperse or even slow until sometime in June.

I like these ideas, we'll talk about it more when the IC goes up.

As to Zeropathic. Sicarius is going to reply to your questions rather soon. At his request (requests, actually, I just keep forgetting) I've changed Western Vallake to its true name. Worsenth. I'll shoot you some stuff on the Yildeanic Faith (unless Sicarius covers this, as well) when I get some time. This information will be directly relative to your character's knighthood status and perhaps history.

EDIT: Rushed Morben's CS to completion (omitting a HUGE section of his history, but that'll be explained IC at some point) and I've decided to leave Endaran incomplete, due to the fact that he's more of a plot device than a character (well, so far as you guys are concerned). This frees me up to work solely on the IC. I am much better (and I daresay much faster) at doing in-character stuff than writing out information. Hahahah.

No, not really. After the Lerayissian-Untuillian war most commonly referred to as The Fall(which happened 60 years prior to Yildeane’s uprising and subsequent death of the gods), all nations, kingdoms ect were dismantled within Lerayis instead becoming neutral regions who due to the way the borders were erected all had to work together to fuel the continent’s economy as well as feed their own people. There have been border disputes though only politically, generally though they are never acted upon due to the nature of the Euphian Armistice (a peace treaty) which is binding via blood magic. The Vigil is currently researching the nature of the treaty, to see whether it can be undone or what other laws are woven into it, as in this day and age most of what it says is archaic.

Worsenth has often disputed its borders and name, still considering themselves apart of Vallake though officially “Western Vallake” is known as Worsenth. The native people of Worsenth are however the minority within the region. The reason it’s called Western Vallake on the thread is Saber kept forgetting to change it for me.

The most skirmishes that Worsenth has been in have been with the tribes of the Hattavori and some groups of Vallake, though nothing like an actual war. It’s mostly just keeping what they consider barbarians at bay.

As I previously stated Western and Eastern Vallake are two different regions, Western Vallake known legally as Worsenth (I will hit Saber I swear for this) so they are separate entities in the eyes of governments and law. Vallake currently has no government, as it’s mostly abandoned; the few towns and such that exist for trade generally are controlled by the Vigil and its council. Worsenth is ruled by a council of 13, generally chosen from respected leaders of each district and one to represent the nomadic tribes. One of these thirteen is chosen to represent the region at meetings and in front of the Vigil, a figurehead you could say. This system they adopted from the Vallakien’s previous government, most places follow a similar procedure though this isn’t purely democratic as often those of elite status and money get their way in(like in real life).

Both were essentially eliminated by the Euphian Armistice, though the Vigil has a system that mirrors it. Allowing for aristocracy and knighthood.

We try giving as much freedom as possible but given the fact we’ve fleshed out this world so much, there are some limits. Mostly for this time period, remember it’s not medieval and more leaning toward Industrial.

People worship Yildeane in their own way, outside of worshipping grounds. Inside these temples & monasteries, there are several ritualistic practices that are intended to unify those of the Faith; they include burning several types of incense, as on offering to the Lady, prayers and the telling of stories from Lerayissian history. If a community is able, they sacrifice a mage on each full moon...failing this, they sacrifice an aberrant creature or something else believed to be touched by magic. While this isn't expected to accomplish anything, as most know that prayers are rarely answered by the Lady, it is symbolic of her success against the Gods.
The core of the faith is simple; the Gods are the source of all woe in the mortal tapestry. While this does not encompass the entirety of the faith, which has little else in the way of expected behaviors, it is a mainstay that is respected by all those who are faithful. There are three tenents that are present in each community that worships Yildeane (put forth by Vigil, where other tenants can be added at the discretion of the local clergy):They are to oppose the Gods at every turn, to show & cultivate strength of the body and mind, and lastly to unify humanity to help conquer Vysold & beyond.

The monasteries hold the priest & knighthood, the priests & priestesses make up the majority of the Vigil and its council. Their members preform rituals and are often sent out across Lerayis to spread Yildeane’s word, and to help their fellow brethren.
Those of the knighthood are far more active, not relying on words but on steel. The knights would be chosen by Vigil, usually for practical purposes and given to an area. Whatever area they're given to would be their new home and they'd become a member of that area's military often overseeing & approving the military’s work in the name of the Vigil.

The Godwastes once were a land covered in mountains; the Gods did not die peacefully. The very mortal tapestry’s core shock, Besirioth is a city that was built underground and the earthquakes that raged during Vysold’s death caved in many parts of the city. Its foundation was cracked, the systems to keep the city livable all decayed with their deaths. It was a nightmare for Besirioth, those who could escape did. Now, even if one had the nerves to try reclaiming the city from the Gods’ wrath, vile creatures have taken root there. It’s a testimony to what Lerayis once was; it was the center of the world during Yildeane’s time. The richest city within Lerayis. A thing of pride. It shows how merciless the Gods are.
In other words, it has plot relevance. We have many plans for what will happen as the roleplay develops; Besirioth will be a part of a very important arc.

I got all my wisdom teeth taken out earlier today so in pain and will be drugged a bit hence my slowed performance I won't have Atheri Syvek's history finished by the time the IC I'd up sadly, hard forming completely coherent thoughts for it but the rest of her CS as does Morben's allude and speak of the most important things if you care to know it. Like Morben's you'll all get to really know her IC.

All typos and such are because I'm on a phone drugged and in pain, will fix that sometime later if they're glaring enough. Thank you everyone.
