It depends on the strength of the user vis-a-vis the subject. It's possible to try 'full on do-my-bidding type', but it only works on the weak-willed. Mind Control can be detected by the subject and resisted, and Anti-Mind Control devices of varying effectiveness are common in stores. However, a really powerful and subtle Mentalist can circumvent all of this.Illusions can cover all five senses, but most Mentalists are only able to do sight.

Actually, there is a material (made with Magic, admittedly), that halves the power of magical shields, and, when piercing a Mage, has the same destructive abilities of a Bolt of Law/Prime, namely inflicting damage that cannot be healed by Magic.

Anyway, I'll start the RP once I have five Character Sheets.
