Nicknames: The Hammer of the North, or Hammer (A nickname poking fun at his bluntness, personal weapon and his northern descent, which later became a badge of honor after his fierce display against the Northern Barbarians. He doesn't use this nickname much outside the Legion.)

Origin: Kareth was born in the north, and was orphaned during a barbarian raid. An imperial officer found him and raised him in his house as a servant.

Favorite phrase/saying:
“Onward to Death and Glory... more likely Death than Glory...” His way of saying 'this is really stupid, but lets do it anyway.'
“All men die. Only some of us find Glory before we do.” One of his favorite lines from the story of the Great General Alutius, a Hero of the early Empire. He has used this line many times to inspire his troops.

Favorite Food:
Salt Pork. He developed quite the taste for it in the Legion.

Favorite Weather and Season:
Foggy weather. He thinks it adds a degree of mystery to the world, even if you know the area like the back of your hand.

Patron God/Goddess:
Skelatia. As a low ranked soldier, Kareth is less involved with how to plan a battle and more concerned with weather or not he will survive it, so he prays to Skelatia, she who deigns who will be taken, either that she pass over him or ease his journey to the next life.

He also Prays to Irtan on occasion. A little extra luck never hurt, right?

Personality:
Kareth is simply a soldier. He follows orders from his superiors without question and offers respect to those whose stations are higher than his. He is friendly and polite to those who don't know him, but once he feels comfortable with you, his coarse soldier side starts to show. He is blunt and has little patience for subtlety. He particularly despises the Northern Barbarians, and is rather vocal on the subject.

History:
Kareth came from a village to the north. After a barbarian raid left him orphaned at the age of 12, an Imperial officer from House Tinath took him in and raised him as a servant. There he received a basic education and a firm grounding in Imperial Virtues. When he turned 16, he joined the Legion, and took to that lifestyle with gusto. He managed to attain the rank of Tesserarius for distinguished service against the Northern Barbarians. After 20 years of soldiering, as much as he enjoyed that lifestyle, he wants to settle down and raise a family. He now has returned to the City of Deliar, looking for work, and with his pay from the legion. He does feel that he owes House Tinath his loyalty for raising him.

He has his armor from the army, which consists of a leather tunic and bracers, chainmail tunic and a simple iron breastplate, but he doesn't wear it often now that he's a civilian. He does still wear his legion belt with the buckle inscribed with unit, cohort and rank.

Command: Kareth has led a compliment of 50 men and commanded their respect. When he orders, people have a tendency to obey, a handy skill from his time in the Legion.

Combat Proficiency: Kareth is skilled in the use of Maces and Falchions, and knows how to fight with a Shield. He also can use a bow, though not with any exceptional degree of skill.

Personality :
Richard is in general a reserved and cool person. He doesn't often open up to people that he deems to be unworthy of his time or when he has a feeling of distrust for them. When he is around family and loved ones, he tends to be a bit more open. Though he isn't one to openly admit his faults, doubts and deep thoughts, he is more willing to show a caring side to those who are close with him. He is a man that has little ambition, only wishing the best for his family.

He shows to have great respect of people that follow their words as well for nature. Though not a man that is very religious, Richard sometimes prays when he is desperate. But always prays for others instead of himself. Next to that, Richard is also a very loyal man, once he trust somebody he often is willing to accept their words and actions.

History :
Born to a father that was a men at arms in the service of the House of Rynir and a mother that was a maid, Richard grew up in the fortress of Hials. Together with two brothers and one sister, he didn't had a bad youth. Though being the third son in line, he managed to learn writing and reading from his mother. Something only he, his sister and the oldest brother ever managed to learn. As they didn't had that much money or were that wealthy, it became clear that the younger children of their household would need to find a profession where they could earn their own bread. Being a boy, it was a logical choice for a son of a low noble knight to join the military. Together with his younger brother, he went into service at the age of sixteen.

For the next five years, Richard would be trained and worked as a marksman in the Legion of Awom. Being trained in Hials instead of Deliar, he however met one day a girl he fell in love with. She, Breena Tinath, worked in a tailor shop that was owned by her. Because he often hunted on his free time and days, he would then try to sell hides to the tailor shop, in hopes of getting to learn the girl he fancied. After he managed to learn her name and woo her, he had managed to muster his courage and to ask her hand. Much to his own surprise, she said yes and the two married. In that same year, he became a father at the age of 19th. A year he would never forget.

On a patrol with the unit he was in, thus fifty soldiers, they got ambushed by deserters. A fierce fight broke out between the soldiers and deserters. Their tesserarius was killed, due an arrow impaling his right eye and piercing into his skill. Several more soldiers died that day before the unit managed to dispose of the deserters. It was Richard who had managed to rally the soldiers and lead them in an offensive back. Gaining respect for his quick thinking and leadership, he was promoted to become the tesserarius of the unit. But he also mourned the loss of his younger brother. He was one of the soldiers who died in that skirmish.

Until he was 23 years old, he stayed as a tesserarius in his unit. Then Richard decided he had enough of the Legion and offered his service and expertise to the House of Rynirs in Hials. He became a hunter and woodsman in their service. Though he didn't change that much, it became clear to some of his friends and those he considered close to him that he had changed a bit due the loss of his brother. It only became worse when his only sister died, because she fell of a horse and broke her spine. Though he didn't become so silent towards his daughter and wife, his friends noticed that he changed towards them. He became more quiet and observant than before, like he didn't want to become close with anybody for fearing to suffer the same pain he had felt before.

Now being 27 and almost eight years a hunter and marksman in the service of the Rynirs, Richard hopes he had gained his little bit of peace. That his family can prosper and his little daughter can grow up without being threatened by any kind of threat.

Clothing and/or armor :
During his free time, Richard wears a garb that is more or less to not make him stand out. He wears often clothes like this.
Whenever he is hunting or might be called to service again, something he does fear now and then, he wears his old garb which consist of this protective gear.
(The garb is a set of leather clothes with a hardened breastplate of leather and malienkolder. Steel arm bracers and shin pads. And as last, fingerless gloves.)

A longsword he carried during his time as a soldier. Its a well crafted blade that Richard treasures for some reason. Its very well balanced, allowing it to be wielded often with one hand.

A short blade that Richard can wield while also wielding Paul's longsword. The short blade is also well made, a kind of memento when Richard had been part of the Legion. He carries it often when he is hunting, the scabbard in which the weapon is sheathed, strapped horizontal to his back.

An Irish wolfhound, that is two years old. He is the loyal companion of Richard, often going with his master to hunt in the woods. Due his large size, he can pose an intimidating threat as well great help in hunting. Or guarding his home.
