I was super duper into indie and post rock when I was younger, and I've been having a bit of a retrospective of that lately. I remember when 'indie' was actually an apt descriptor, back in the early-mid 2000s. :(

Used to be all over this guy's music,

Had a boyfriend who introduced me to a ton of under-the-radar stuff when I was a teenager.

EDIT: And yes, my music taste has changed a lot, but I still find myself enjoying a lot of the stuff I used to listen to. In fact, maybe 'changed' isn't the best word to describe it. Perhaps 'broadened' would work better.

Hugely. When I was a teen, most of my music was stuff like Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Offspring, Blink 182, Sum 41, and assorted music in a similar vein. The only bands of those that I still listen to outside of 1-3 songs worth of nostalgia is The Offspring and older RHCP, and even then both those bands are "sometimes." Oh, and Billy Talent has always been a big one, still is when I'm in the mood.

Now my most listened to bands are Suidakra, Alestorm, Turisas, Powerwolf, Amon Armarth, and Nightwish. Rounding it out is assorted metal, classic and contemporary rock, punk rock, oddballs I enjoy listening to, and even occasionally the odd folk tune and rap song.

I listened mainly to rock and metal back in my early teen years. In my late teens my musical tastes expanded more to more regularly include classical, neo-classical, and game OSTs. Now I rarely listen to the same music I did when I was younger, but I still enjoy it. Basically went from this as my regular listening to this.

Ten years ago I was a huge fan of Tool, A Perfect Circle, A System of a Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Angelspit, The Beatles, and Snoop Dogg (did Puscifer exist yet?). My music taste ranged really drastically, but these artists were very common choices for me. Gorillaz was also pretty notable in my life. I had a hard time finding artists I enjoyed, because the music often felt it had little going for it in originality after listening to half an album. Many artists seemed to sound the same throughout, for me. My appeal to Tool & A Perfect Circle stemmed from the wild variance in their music, it felt like an adapting thing and helped me understand my emotions when listening.

Today Tool, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, The Beatles, and Gorillaz remain close to my heart. I am a huge fan of Dubstep, which I feel is way more rewarding than Angelspit-like Industrial, and love, love, LOVE, rap and eccentric jazz. A few names off my Spotify would be The Grouch, Abstract Rude, Rhye, Aceyalone, Aloe Blacc, Kimbra, Haim, and M.I.A.

It changes all the time for me, though I think the one thing that I could never get myself to like is stuff like Heavy Metal and most rap. Uhm.. a little too loud for my taste.
Other than that, I guess I'm pretty flexible.

That's basically what I was getting at, I just put it lazily. It's fun to look back at music I used to love and enjoy it for that. Broadened is definitely more accurate.

I had a similar experience. It was like all radio hits, alt rock, etc. until I was like 15 and got introduced to a few things. Then I had steady internet at home and I just went nuts with random, 'obscure' shit.

But radio wasn't too bad in the late 90s early 2000s

When I sit down and think about it, I suppose my music tastes haven't really changed. The first two CDs I ever bought were Oasis (What's The Story Morning Glory?) and Faust (Opera by C. Gounod). In my multiple disk player (back in the day lol), I'd have everything from classic rock to chamber music. As I grew older, I found out about a few more genres of music that I enjoy (electronica), but I still maintain all my original tastes, especially while doing certain things:

- Whenever I'm doing work outside (yard work, washing a car, painting, etc.) I always listen to oldies. (The Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, Buddy Holly, etc.)
- On rainy/snowy days I always enjoy listening to classical music. (Generally softer stuff... chamber music, piano or violin soloists...) That, or calm acoustic guitar/indie artist music.
- Driving a car always warrants a classic rock station/playlist. This is especially true in the spring/summer. (Dean Winchester has nothing on me.)
- And now, while working/drawing/painting, I almost always listen to electronica or movie soundtracks/instrumentals. (Generally stuff with no lyrics -- it makes it easier to sort of get lost in the music and focus on my work.)

I tend to very much be a creature of habit with my music. Though I do enjoy discovering new artists, I invariably tend to steer away from rap or hip hop music -- they've just never done much for me -- and I continue to rock out within the categories listed above.

I'll let you know in 3 years, though I doubt my music taste will go through another extensive change considering that I've been expanding my tastes like a motherfucker for the entire duration of 2014.

Yea. I jammed to harder stuff like Five Finger Death Punch, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and various other rock bands. Today, I enjoy softer and easier music Punch Brothers, Wailin' Jennys. Soundtracks to games and movies as well.

Yeah. I used to be super into OCRemix sort of stuff, and doujin fan music, as well as Dream Theater, and some other rock bands.

I've been on quite a trip since then, where I listened to anything I could find on the internet.

Now, while I could still totally get down to Hellion Sounds, or Dance of Eternity, I've gotten super into anything thats idm-ish or whatever.

About the only real change, is that I used to like System of a Down, now I'm finding Serj's vocals to be more grating and annoying, and the lyrics too....ridiculous? Just not enjoying it much. Otherwise, still listen from Nirvana to Meshuggah, The Doors to The Gathering.

Always liked a bit of folk, but never had any around. Like dubstep (americanized, harder, more aggressive, such as Excision, Bratkilla, Fall of Icarus.

Yes, I listened to a lot of nu metal and before that, grunge, because 90s but after I got out of high school and on my own, I discovered a lot of other music, not necessarily all underground obscure stuff. Mostly in the punk genre and rockabilly, some 80s bands I missed out on because I grew up listening to music of my parent's youth, which I still love and can find on any classic rock station. So..on my phone I can find anything from ZZ Top to Depeche Mode, TSOL, Exploited, Led Zeppelin, Johnny Cash and Deftones, to just name a few.

I've tried to branch out and listen to music that's made today but there are few songs I like that I've heard so far. I don't want to get stuck in time but it's becoming harder to find something I'd pay to download made in the last few years.

I'm nineteen so, close enough.

Early Teens: Alternative Rock, some heavy metal. Absolutely NO rap, I didn't listen to stupid shit like that.

Mid Teens: Rap, Hip Hop. No country (more out of distaste for my hometown)

Late Teens: Rap, Indie?, Rock, Country. I like a bit of everything now.
