I finally finished my nation app.
Name of Nation: Byzantine Confederacy
Territories: Greater Serbia (Serbia, Kosovo, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro), Albania, Greece, Bulgaria, and Turkey up to Istanbul. Major Cities: Sofia, Athens, Sarajevo, Belgrade, and Western Istanbul.
Government Type:
Pan-Nationalist Totalitarian Parliamentary Dictatorship. Politics revolve around a fusion of National Syndicalism and Right-Wing populism. The nations pledge allegiance to the Byzantine Conference that is the ruling body of the Confederacy, but often the main ruling and final decision is decided by the Supreme Leader of Byzantium (Ανώτατο Αρχηγό του Βυζαντίου). 3 factions exist in the high ranks of the Conference that generally have a different idea on how they believe the newly formed Confederacy should operate.
Factions:
Vanguard of New Byzantium (Militarist/Imperialist) is the largest and dominating faction that controls the military, most of the political discussion, and the confederacy’s propaganda machine. The conservative nature of their policies keeps the peace and prevents infighting with the other factions that try to step out of line. Most of their agenda is expanding their influence into Turkey’s borders.
The Promethean Council (Technocratic/Progressive) are the second faction that manage the bulk of the economic burdens of the Confederacy and play a major role in the maintenance and the improvement of its infrastructure. Controlling the major industrial and agricultural sectors, they also run a heavy military R&D program with joint oversight from the Vanguard. Their policies are aimed at relaxing the punishments and harsh penalties of the Confederacy’s laws and take a more progressive and technocratic approach, most of the opposition to change the laws comes from their rivals: The Order of The Orthodox Cross.
The Order of The Orthodox Cross (Theocratic/Reactionary) is the smallest (having less than 10% of the Conference membership) are the most vocal and influential group of the Conference, imposing their strict moral doctrine on the larger populace. However, the increasing opposition of the Promethean Council and their influence is becoming ever more paramount during the Greek recovery and the sedimentation of the Confederacy’s power during its peaceful reign. Their members mostly come from the poorer Serbian and Bulgarian peoples rather than the richer Greek archipelago, but maintains a good influence within the region.
Official Religion: Eastern Orthodox. Although anyone can freely practice any religion or lack thereof, blasphemy laws charge anyone openly attacking the church or criticizing the Order outside the government are fined, and if the action severe enough, imprisonment up to 3 years.
Military: The Military under the Vanguard of New Byzantium is tasked with patrolling and maintaining order within the Confederacy by defending both the Northern territories with its mountainous geography, proficient guerilla tactics and urban warfare, anti-aircraft defenses placed at strategic locations and key cities while it keeps the peace in the Southern Archipelago via police force. The Greek Navy patrols the Aegean and Ionian Seas from potential attacks and invasion from Turkey and North Africa. Perhaps the Achilles heel of the army is that it relies heavily on Russian arms and military equipment as the Serbian/Greek Conquest drained
Economy: The Economy of the Byzantine Confederacy is a mixed economy of capitalist economics and socialist oversight, nationalizing major sectors of the economy. Run mostly by the Promethean Council regarding R&D, agriculture, mining, and heavy industry, tax cuts for industries that it desires (such as weapons manufacturing, chemical processing, and plans to increase the output of agriculture via vertical farming).
Greece remains the wealthiest of the three nations due to having desirable tourism, their position as the temporary capital of the and merchant navy transport system, followed by Bulgaria due to trade with Russia via the Black Sea. Greater Serbia is the poorest and most devastated of the nations due to the Serbian Reunification and the destruction of Sarajevo’s infrastructure.
Exports: Shipping and Transportation of goods, Manufacturing, Bauxite (Aluminum) Ore, Iron, Gold, sulfur, Gypsum, Luxury items (Marble, Grapes, Olive Oil, Cheese), tobacco, wheat.
Imports: Military hardware and ammunition, petroleum, guns, consumer electronics, foodstuffs, chemicals, cars, uranium fuel, machine parts, and construction materials.
Foreign Policy: Politically Aggressive. Highly supportive of Italy and France in their fight against The Oculi of Mercier as they brand him as an overeducated anarchist and terrorist. Supportive of the Far-right movements and nationalist support from allies, but openly critical of democratic and liberal governments. They prefer to improve and mine the Balkans for mineral resources to rebuild their ruined cities and infrastructure via trade and negotiations.
Foes: The Oculi of Mercier, Turkey. Skeptical of the NAF and Iran, but see them as ideological foes rather than outright enemies.
Demographics: 79 million. 38% Greek, 50% South Slavic (48% Serbian, 25% Bulgarian, 12% Albanian, 8% Bosnian, 7% Macedonian), 12% Minority or Second Class status (Mixture of Africans, Turks, Armenians, Egyptian Arabs, and Kurds).
History:
The Byzantine Confederacy is the dominant Balkan super-state that spans from Western Istanbul to the Slovenian border and down to the Greek archipelago and its sister islands. Despite differences in language and culture, they share a deep history and shared religion with each other that unites them under one banner in the region, as the
Born in 2023 during nationalist uprisings in Greece by the Golden Dawn, the Bulgarian withdraw from the EU, and the Right-wing populist coup of the increasing liberal government of Serbia, a meeting was established between the three nations to decide what to do to prevent the undoing of their creations by what they saw as the degenerate, yet, powerful and well-armed Western governments of the EU and the United States. They decided that they would unify under the condition that they would support each other to ensure that the two regional nationalist powers stayed in control, while Bulgaria would support them by trading with Russia for weapons to quell any potential rebellion against the newly form pan-nationalist state.
For the first half of WW3, the three nations fought in a grueling civil war against the former liberal regimes and its allies in attempt to restore the democratic order from the nationalist forces. Unfortunately, despite better equipment of the opposition, they were outgunned and outmatched by the combined army of the nationalist forces, caused the civil war against the government into a prolonged war of sabotage and terrorism crushing them and driving them underground. They still partake in actions against the Confederacy and currently sided themselves with The Oculi of Mercier.
The second part of the war was mostly a war of conquest and conquering the lesser nations under the banner of the Confederacy. The Greek conquest of Western Turkey (that was pushed back by the U.S. and Turkish forces up to Eastern Istanbul), joined by Bulgaria, and the recently established Greater Serbia via conquest of the smaller and former Yugoslavia nations secured the territories and dominions under the Byzantine banner. Dominated by the three states, Albania has been absorbed by Greece and Greater Serbia, while the Macedonia was divided between the three powers.
