What if the main cast of an anime and manga that we all know (and maybe love) was a bit different. what if the main cast didn’t consist of an idiot, an emo and a crybaby? What if Konoha was not the center stage? Would the story evolve differently? Would it be pretty much the same?
Here, we will find out.
Set in the hidden mist village around the same time as the original series. We’ll try to figure out how the story would progress if the mist’s jinchuuriki and friends had been the center of attention. We’ll try to stick as close to the original storyline we can, at least until we get to the Valley of the end.

All Naruto-games I've ever played in (except one where we were supposed to be super powerful) has used the jutsu-list. A list of known techniques that your character can use, the amount of techniques is usually based on the character’s rank (genin, chuunin, jounin and so on...). Lately I've started to wonder if it doesn't do more harm than good. It does give the GM and other players a sense of balance, but at the same time it holds back the dynamic nature of the narutoverse. In this game we just set a few jutsus as signature moves (for example: Naruto: Rasengan and kage bunshin. Rock Lee: Konoha senpuu and gateopening), then specify a field of expertise (Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, Genjutsu) and let everyone improvise from there, using a few guidelines.
The main thought is to bring the game closer to the series by changing the way we see our characters’ skills.
This will be used with a “Used jutsu list” that is updated every time a character use a new jutsu. This will make sure that we don’t get that one guy who comes up with a new jutsu every post, and will let you know who’s falling behind.
Every game that has ever used a jutsu list have also restricted the use of jutsus to the techniques specified in the list. This makes most games feel quite different from the series where characters sometimes make up new techniques on the spot (just look at how many types of rasengan there are!). It also means that a genjutsu and ninjutsu-user has less tools to work with than a taijutsu-user, who can both freeform and use practiced techniques. My plan for this game is that nin- and genjutsu isn’t as rigid as you’d think, and is actually as freeformable as taijutsu. However, the practiced jutsus has the same advantage that practiced taijutsu moves has. More power, and easier to do (in other words, those are the ones you want to use if your life depends on it). This would also make it a lot more valid to play a genjutsu-user, I’d think, because there is a distinct lack of canon-genjutsu that isn’t extremely specific.
The goal here isn’t so much about making new techniques up as you go, but to give a ninjutsu or genjutsu specialist as many tools as the taijutsu specialist.
In practice this would mean that in a fight a ninjutsu specialist doesn’t just have his practiced jutsus to work with, he can improvise. A fire ninjutsu user could improvise a ball of flames because the situation calls for it. However it would be easier to dodge/block and would do less damage if it hit because it is not a practiced move that has been perfected over hours and hours of training. The same thing would apply to taijutsu. Rock Lee’s Konoha Senpuu is devastating because he has practiced that one kick thousands of times, Lee “freeform-kicking” someone would not have the same impact.
One of the great things about Naruto is the spectacular fights, even the shit done at lower levels was bad ass (remember when Lee fought Gaara at the chuunin exam?). In the rps people are a bit too scared of losing and having their characters do something that isn’t always tactically correct, and the fights are never ever close as stunning as in the series. Rarely do I stumble upon a game where powerplay is a feature, but in Naruto-games I think it should be.
If we just make sure every character has a unique way of fighting, and make up some ground rules for the fights as they go along we’d give the fighters more to work with while they write. Thus, you can make better, more spectacular posts.
This idea is simply a way to get more content and more action into every post. Instead of having to stop at "and then Sasuke throws his sword straight at Naruto" you can go ahead with "the blade slices through him like butter, victory is assured until he explodes in a cloud of white. A kage bunshin, the real one must be hiding somewhere..."
Normally (as in, this is my experience from gaming here) you have to either make a collaboration or have a long conversation with your player opponent or GM. If the rules of powerplay are a bit looser, you'll be free to make up certain things on the spot to create a better post.
It means that you have to be more careful with how you write your CS and require a certain amount of trust between the players (and GM). Specifically when you have the players battle an NPC, you have to be able to trust the players not to kill off one of the six paths of Pein with a rasengan and not giving it a chance to fight back… Some sort of instruction will therefore follow every encounter, like “this is a medium-hard guy that use genjutsu (butterfly theme) and lighthing ninjutsu”. This will tell the players how hard the fight should be to win (if it’s even possible) and what tools the enemy will use.
Note: This applies to the other player characters as well. If this works no one will have to describe the same situation as another player. Always figure out what the others are doing!
Other than this, normal Adv rules apply. Use common sense. Ask if question. Good? Yes?

Important stuff for the game:
Village: the hidden mist (Kirigakure)
Players:
Jinchuuriki -
Name: Kaoru Takata
Epithet: None.
Gender: Male
Age: 11
Rank: Genin
Affiliation: The Village Hidden in the Mist
Appearance: He has messy, sandy blond hair and always looks like he's in need of a haircut. His eyes are a light sky blue, and always seem to reflect back whatever emotion he's feeling if you know what to look for. Kaoru is very short, around 5'2" - but that doesn't stop him from training. He's muscular for a kid his age, and is very skilled in taijutsu as a result. He normally wears black loose-fitting shorts and a white t-shirt. In the cold, he switches to leggings and a long-sleeved shirt. He prefers not to wear shoes in the summer, but during the winter he wears the standard issue sandals.
Kaoru is by no means the most powerful jinchuuriki, but he has enough chakra to wipe out a good-sized village. That being said, all that chakra has to go somewhere, and he channels it into his training. If he doesn't use up some of his extra chakra, he's bound to lose control of it when performing ninjutsu or genjutsu that require specific chakra control. He's not very good at controlling his chakra in the first place, so a lot of his attacks will get out of hand or won't be powerful enough unless he uses up a lot of chakra first. His bijuu is a six-tailed ocelot. She's perpetually angry, and lashes out at him simply for existing as her prison, claiming there’s no reason for her to continue living when she has to learn to work with him. Many times she'll dump chakra into his system out of rage, and he has to find a way to get rid of it. She constantly talks to him, belittling him and telling him how weak he is and that he'll never get anywhere.
Personality: Kaoru's not one to start fights, but he has been caught up in more than a few; this led to his abilities in taijutsu. He believes that he shouldn't even be on a team if he can hurt them accidentally, and doesn't think that he'll be able to learn to control his chakra. Many good-intentioned jounin have tried to teach him in the past, but it never worked out very well. Due to the bijuu constantly talking in his ear, he's selfless to the point where he will sacrifice himself for others without a second thought; he doesn't think he's worth as much as them, even if he is a jinchuuriki. He doesn't really know how to respond when people see him as more than a necessary evil, or a dangerous, uncontrollable cage. He's very soft-spoken but has strong opinions, and he hates more than anything to go against what he believes in. Many times, he simply will refuse. This small amount of willpower has kept him from being taken over by the tailed beast. On a good day, he'll go and get some groceries, go to training, and talk to a few people about simple things related to the weather. On a bad day, he can't even get out of bed; he'll miss assignments and training and tell them later that he was sick, or he had something more important to do. The Mizukage knows what happens when he has bad days, but there's not much that can be done. He pushes away the people who try to help him - they always end up being the ones who hurt him, in the end. There has been talk of moving the bijuu to a better candidate, but the Mizukage has a soft spot for Kaoru and sees potential somewhere in him. Moving the tailed beast would most likely kill Kaoru, and the Mizukage would at least want to see what Kaoru’s potential is as a Genin.
Signature Moves:
Dynamic Entry (Rank D): The user throws an object, usually a kunai, to distract their opponent while jump-kicking them in their blind spot.
Hidden Mist Technique (Rank D): The user creates chakra either from a water source or their own mouth (in Kaoru’s case, he needs a water source) and can make it thicker by kneading more chakra into it.
Shadow Clone Technique (Rank B): Where the user creates corporeal copies of themselves, and their chakra is divided evenly between however many there are.
Field of Specialty: Taijutsu, however he’s more evenly balanced between ninjutsu and taijutsu.
Weapons: Standard-issue kunai and shuriken.
Weaknesses: Although Kaoru is skilled in taijutsu, he just doesn’t have the height or weight in order to take on bigger opponents. In this case, he’ll normally resort to ninjutsu or using shadow clones. He can get distracted by his bijuu, and when she dumps chakra into his system his clones will be interrupted, or he’ll be forced to use up the chakra so he can more easily control his attacks.
History: He was born into the Mist as a normal child, and given the bijuu around age six. There were mixed opinions about him - whether he would grow up to be a monster or not. His parents were more scared of him than the most superstitious citizens, and send him to an adoption center less than a week after he was given the six-tails. Kaoru was adopted by a string of people who were just curious about the bijou, and would forget that he was an actual boy, not just a vessel for a monster. Each time, he'd run away back to the orphanage, and after the fourth time it grew to be his permanent home. He grew up with a few loose friends at the center, but he heard the conversations they had when they thought he couldn't hear about how he was too timid to function or how they were waiting for him to turn into a monster. Shortly after that, the bijuu started speaking to him, at first lightly chiding him for being so young and so foolish, but later becoming angry as the days wore on. She also revealed that she simply had no desire to live any longer, and was waiting for the day when she could wear Kaoru down enough to kill him. After this, he threw himself into his studies, chanting "shut up" to the bijuu in between every punch, every kick. She still talked, and told him how he'd never be good enough to be an actual ninja, not when his kicks were too low and his punches too weak. So Kaoru set out to prove her wrong, and he finally did when he graduated the Academy a year ahead than most children.

Bloodline weilder -
Name: Kaguya Keisuke.
Epithet: None.
Gender: Male.
Age: 12.
Rank: Genin.
Affiliation(Village): Kirigakure no sato (village hidden in the mist)
Jutsus:
Signature moves:
Shunshin no jutsu (Rank C) - Super-fast movement, used to transport a ninja into, out of or around a battlefield or general environment.
Dance of the willows (Rank C) - First form of the bamboo dance. Keisuke will take a kunai in each hand and use his fluid motions to stab his opponent.
Kawarimi no jutsu (Rank E) - Basic technique used to get out of trouble.
Example jutsus for use in-game:
Fighting style: The bamboo dances.
A taijutsu-style which relies on fluid, circular movements and precise strikes. Originally used by those of the Kaguya clan that was born with the clan’s kekkei genkai. Keisuke has shown no sign of possessing this trait, but the style has been altered to work with kunais instead of bonedaggers. Similar to kung fu, this style is all about being soft and fluent like the wind or water. If someone strikes you, you shouldn’t fight it, but go along with the force and use it to your own advantage. There is also a lot of dodging in this style.
Field of Specialty: Taijutsu.
Weapons: Standard issue kunai and shuriken in a belt pouch.
Personality: Keisuke is a serious boy, and a loner. He has lived alone for a few years and gotten used to looking after himself. He tends to keep people at arm’s length. He generally never initiate a conversation with people he doesn’t know and trust, and is perfectly fine with spending hours on end in total silence. The only people why sees any kind of emotion from him are the people he either wants to “have a bond with” or his closest friends, of which there are none at this time.
History: Keisuke was born in the proud Kaguya clan. Most people don’t like to think about them. When he was still a baby something horrible happened. A big fight broke out between the clan and the village, it became violent and before anyone with enough sense could stop it the village had declared war on the Kaguyas. Of course, being violent as well as stubborn, the Kaguyas accepted, and were slaughtered like pigs. Only two small children survived. Kimimaro, the son of the clan’s chieftain and his young cousin Keisuke.
Kimimaro left his cousin with some friends before he left the village.
This is what Keisuke has been told.
Keisuke was entered into the academy and did very well, he graduated with top grades, ready to take on the life of a ninja.
Others:
While Keisuke still isn’t able to use the famous Kaguya bloodline limit he still gets some advantages and disadvantages from simply being a Kaguya.
+ Much higher than average pain tolerance.
+/- Shifted pressure points.
- Medical ninjutsu has little or no effect on him.
Keisuke loves both reading and music, but was not born with the soul of an artist and can therefore not create that which he loves.

Name: Madoka Shishou, often shortened to Momo.
Epithet: None
Gender: Female
Age: 12
Rank: Genin
Affiliation(Village): Kirigakure
Signature Jutsu
Earth Release-Fourteen Pillar Prison
A zone-control Jutsu, Madoka creates the hand signs and then plants her hands on the ground. Initially the jutsu has no effect, however Madoka can release a hidden seal on the ground which causes stone pillars to rise from the ground and entrap whatever is in the location directly above the marked location. It should be noted that the name is not completely truth. The number of pillars in the jutsu is variable to the user’s strength. Momo can currently produce a maximum of four pillars.
Earth Release-Naraka boundary.
A defensive jutsu, Madoka creates a half-sphere of rock in front of her which serves as a defensive structure. The more time and chakra she puts into the jutsu, the more layers form and the stronger the defence. A quick Naraka boundary would possibly stop an explosive tag before being broken. A five layer boundary would shrug off the explosive tag without much damage to the defensive structure: so on, so forth.
Shishou Hiden- 32 point slide
An augmentative Hiden jutsu that is unique to the women of the Shishou clan. Using a chakra infused needle, Momo can empower an ally with bonus strength or rob a disable foe of any strength by manipulating pressure from the chakra points in a similar fashion as the Hyuuga clan’s Eight Trigram technique. Since the Shishou family does not possess the Byakugan, or any eye technique that allows them to literally see the chakra points: this technique requires immense concentration and no disturbances.
Fighting style: Momo mainly uses her limited pool of Doton techniques and her intellect to trap a foe, before using the Shishou Hiden to completely incapacitate them.
Field of Specialty: Ninjutsu seems to be Momo’s talent, especially when it comes to terrain based jutsu and defensive techniques. She only knows the basics of Gen and Tai jutsu.
Weapons: Standard issue Ninja tools (Shuriken, Kunai, Metal wire and blank tags.), 12 acupuncture needles.
Personality: Momo is a driven, happy girl who has been surrounded by a comfortable life for her entire life. She is well liked amongst her peers, popular amongst teachers and adored to the point of being spoilt by her parents. However, growing up in the more violence-centric Kiragakure has ensured that Madoka is no wallflower. She had to fight her parents very hard to be allowed to enrol in the ninja-academy, as they would have preferred their youngest daughter stay in the more domestic side of the family business. As such, Momo spent a lot of time involved in rigorous training and deep study. She is no prodigy, yet her obvious intellect and refined talent has made her a stand-out in the current year.
In short, Momo is a hard-working, confident, intelligent and happy young girl who is not afraid to work for her ambitions She relies on her hard work, over raw talents to get things done.
History: Madoka’s history is a rather bland one. The youngest of four kids, Madoka’s parents would have much rather seen her work in the domestic side of the family business of acupuncture and aromatherapy which serves as an important aid for recuperation and healing in the violent village of Kiragakure. Instead, Momo was driven by a desire to be a ninja and she had to beg her parents in order to actually be allowed to enrol in the ninja academy.
The reason for her drive was a hazy memory of her youth: when a mystery Kunoichi saved Momo from a wild beast. The memory, as hazy as it is, left a vivid impression on the girl, and serves as a motivator for her in the hardest of times.
The academy itself suited Madoka, as it relied on hard work, intelligence and drive: three things that Momo had in spades. She finished highly in her class, although she was not quite the top, as she had hoped.

Others: Other than her skills as a Kunoichi, Momo is a talented acupressure-ist and has extensive knowledge about plants, especially those with medicinal qualities. She has a phobia of snakes, due to the large one that attacked her at a young age.
