It was a great episode, though it felt oddly non-GoT-esque, as it focused entirely on one storyline instead of jumping around like usual. My book-reading friends have assured me that all the shit goes down next episode, though, so I'm anticipating that one much more.

I really enjoyed it even if it felt so out of place.

That wasn't the episode's fault, though. More of the director. Namely, camera angles and the like. I believe it was the same director who shot to Blackwater episode?

Awkward zooms. Awkward "Let's look at the entire set" rotations. The style was strange. The episode was good.

I loved those Castle Black spins. Thought they were great, mostly because of the sense of geography and scale and shit. It was super-impressive to see John coming down with Gren to meet Sam and fight Magnar while Allister was fighting Tormund and Gren was fighting a giant while Ygritte shot crows.

Fantastic work, imo.

The Allister/Tormund and Jon/Magnar scenes were cool, I thought they were good fighting scenes. The little scene in the tunnel was awesome as well. I was worried at first that there was going to be a shit ton of focus on Gilly but it wasn't that bad.

It was a great episode, better than Blackwater imo. Definitely a lot better than I was expecting knowing it'd be a full Night's Watch episode, because I don't really like Jon or Sam very much. The battle stuff was all pretty great, and the big bladed anchor thing they used to wreck the last climbers was probably the coolest shit in the whole episode.

I'm fairly sure DB&DW are saving Lady Stoneheart's entrance for next week. Should be epic, though.

Also, are we not even bothering to spoiler things anymore? Poor non-bookreading folks.

Regarding the episode itself, I was honestly not looking forward to this. I usually like Jon and Sam's scenes, but this season I've felt that they've been too tiring. Maybe it's because it seems like the show has run out of book material (without borrowing heavily against its own future) and its invented scenes are less interesting.

You wouldn't even believe how many effing spoilers we get. Though it's not always from book-readers - my cousin's fiance decided to post up a picture of the end of s4e8 the morning after it showed here. And as it shows only on one channel that very few people have (Sky Atlantic) at 2am, the Monday morning was the very first opportunity almost anybody would have had to see it. And he spoiled it. I was raging.

A few Facebook pages for shows sometimes do this themselves on a regular basis. Those get canned from my feed VERY quickly.
