I don't think so? hate to give a dull answer, but it just seems kind of normal after about 5 minutes. Unless you visit the North or (shudder) North Wales- in which case it's basically like listening to a foreign language anyway.

Generally? The american's I've known in England have loved it, more cause of the strange culture differences than the accents. It's not like living in a BBC period drama (apart from Wales and the North which are basically the nasty bits of Dickens), sadly.

@Halo: Jared Leto. Of course, Jared Leto. Come on now. And umm, that may be Jumper. But I know it's definitely not Push heh.

@Aria: Oh my god my prom was also Great Gatsby themed!

But HA that's actually a funny question. I'd imagine that the females would try to blend in a little, at least.

I'm just curious about these things lol. I had a French foreign exchange student who claimed that girls never liked him "back home," but man, he pulled so many chicks during his year in America. I mean, so much pussy (excuse my language). And when my friends went to Spain for some summer trip, they were those idiots that were just awestruck by every attractive man who had a thick accent. LOL.

It's okay, I wept bitterly into my dress after prom. I wasn't 18, so I couldn't go to the clubs and after-parties. Our prom is very fancy and formal as well, but the themes differ year to year. My sister had "Classic Old Hollywood" and "Masquerade."

Trust me, hilarity will ensue. Not only will there be rage, but remember that it makes Elli a cradle robber. #cougarstatus

Great, we can be bitter-post-prom buddies. :D I'll just eat lots of cake and come on RPG.
Themes are such a great idea; considering my Prom is on, of all dates, Friday the 13th, I can think of some preettyyy awesome themes they could have used :P

Dem claws, though. ;D though hey, Amis is 20 and she's 25, that's not really such a bad difference. Same age difference as me and my first major girlfriend. x)

Aah so that's why Edinburgh's your second choice... I got kind of confused by that. For those that don't know, Scotland treats english students like foreign students- we'd have to pay through the nose to go there. My prom was just about the most aggressively and hilariously shit thing I have ever witnessed. I guess that's what you get living in southampton, the only city in the UK to look it's best in the time period being bombed.

Yeah - although it wasn't just because of the financial aspects, it made the most sense academically and in other ways as well. My offer for Durham was very high and my fourth offer was St. Andrews, which I felt, as a city boy, would drive me crazy as I'd have to live in a quiet village, and which is ranked lower internationally than Edinburgh for my subject anyway. Then again, if I didn't live in Scotland I probably wouldn't have chosen Edinburgh and St. Andrews at all - probably would have gone for UCL and Bath or some such.

I can tell you were just full of school spirit ;P. I'm assuming you have now fled Southampton?

So I have a question for Nines and Halo: So you know how girls in America love accents? When teeny bopper/early twenty-somethings visit the UK, are they pretty easy to spot? I mean, do they go nuts over every male who speaks or what?

Depends on the girl, no? I've been told by an American girl online that my voice beats out milk and honey for soothing, quote, and several others have expressed an, uhm, admiration - so yeah, sometimes! It's less our voices than theirs, though - not to be stereotypical, but Americans tend to be somewhat more boisterous and less reserved than Brits, so I usually hear their voices before they hear mine. Definitely agree with Nines, though, in that it's often less the accents and more the cultural differences that people get excited over. My first girlfriend was American and when she visited Liverpool, she absolutely fell in love with the place because of the different culture she found there.

He's very young-looking for a 42 year old, but I mean. Ooft. And ahh, my mistake - what's Push about then?

The singing is horrid. Hugh Jackman (he's so hawt) cannot keep his head still when he sings. Amanda Seyfried sounds like a dying cat when she squeezes out her high notes. Anne Hathaway was okay. And don't even get me started on Russel Crowe's monotonous crap he calls "singing." I mean, thank god Samantha Barks was picked up from West End. She redeemed the entire cast with "On My Own."
But anyway, it may be hard to follow if you don't do prior research or you only watch it one time. It's all these stories of different people that are ultimately all related to the main story. The actual story is beautiful-- it's about a man who commits a crime, and after being shown kindness by a bishop he basically learns to live his life in the grace of God by giving grace to those all around him. Now the cop who wanted to catch him for nine years struggles with bringing the man to justice (which he believes is his duty from God), or following his own moral beliefs of letting him go because the criminal has now made good of his life. And thrown in there are other characters with stories that are intertwined with the criminal's story. It's one of the most touching movies/musicals/books I've ever come across.

Also, oh god. Prom. Tonight. Why. There is nothing less I wanted to do with my morning than get up and immediately have to try to sort out what I'm wearing (because I'm a fool and didn't do that weeks ago.) I think I'm gonna go in all-black attire to protest.

That's basically true. I enjoyed the acting side of the singing a lot- the church scene with valjean was great, and I can see why people thought hathaway was great (even though seeing it on cinema was basically LOOOOOOK AT HER ENOURMOUS FACE 20 CINEMA SCREEN FEET OF FAAAAACE). But you can't really put it on a level with a broadway production. Because of how they can get so much closer than the audience in a theatre, the acting quality became more important than the singing. Remember too, that this is most people's first exposure to it- obviously people who've seen it or sung parts are gonna find some of the singing grating, but the aim wasn't to produce an excellent musical, it was to produce an excellent muscial film- unfortunately that means compromises.

Also, Halo- you're a guy. Just go rent a black tie suit and have done with it. Planning clothes for smart events isnt meant to be difficult..

That's all fair comment - I agree wholly, and I wouldn't argue that the singing is as good as it would be in theatre, but that's a far stretch from saying it was horrid. The singing was excellent - just not necessarily up to par with some of the best singing voices in the world, i.e. those selected to play in such a prestigious musical in the London West End.

The problem with that being that it's tonight, and that because the Prom of most of the schools in Edinburgh apparently seems to fall this weekend, there aren't many places with stuff left on short notice (remember, it's a ceilidh - I'm meant to be wearing a kilt, not normal black tie, though I know some others aren't wearing one either). It's not gonna be hard, I just have to go buy shoes 'cause my usual "nice" ones are #rekt. It's just irksome because I'm gonna have to explain to people why I didn't get a kilt.

Got more work today. Loving the conversation going on here. To add to it, I didn't go to my prom.Yeah yeah, poor me, I know XD. The thing is, I wasn't nearly as cool as I am now back then, so I had no one to go with lol. Hope you peoples enjoy yours that are going (unless I misread and no one is going XDDD). In any case, I'll see ya'll when I get off. And I also hope to see some IC posts soon too.

Finally... Destiny is freakin' amazing. I didn't give a shit before, but after playing the Alpha for a while, this is a must-have game if you liked Halo (HA, Puns XDD) or any other shooter game.
